I’ve always looked very closely at every coral I’ve ever bought but honestly never even thought about getting a pair of those binocular glasses. That is an incredible idea and I’ll definitely be getting some. Thanks for a great informative video!!!

Spot on Than! I'm farr from perfect but the amount of crap I've kept out of my main tank with a qt is pretty unbelievable. The fact most corals are wild here you'd be crazy not to. I find fragging a good addition to observation, get rid of any skeleton/substrate not needed. Great video!

So on Amazon, there are a few different models of the $300 loupe, which do you suggest? The 2.5x 3x or 3.5x - they all have different working distances as well. Obviously the more magnification the better but working from a further distance may not be ideal

Very important topic... on my channel I have noted only tanks with very hardy fish always do well with no qt.. so if you do all captive bred fish and damsels then you will most likely be okay but what fun is that so many other fish...

I don't have too many recommendations when it comes to fish. I should have on someone who does it professionally for a Q&A. So much about what makes introducing fish challenging is how that fish was handled before it showed up into the country.

I QT fish but for corals, my QT system is cheep and too hard on sensitive SPS. I have been doing a 2 part dip (coral RX and Bayer), removing the plug or gluing over all non living tissue. I try to inspect for eggs but have low confidence in my ability to spot them. Not sure how to make an SPS stable QT system without replicating my entire system in small scale or do constant water changes requiring tons of time.

This is a very good video. Would have never thought to use dental glasses. These would also serve as good protection when handling zoas. Pests could very well be what is causing Rico's issue. I feel bad cuz that tank was on it's was to being awesome.
@tidalgardens
@tidalgardens 4 жыл бұрын
When I saw his stream I thought his tank looked like a situation where someone overcranked an ultra low nutrient methodology and starved everything out with heavy carbon dosing. Having a pest issue usually affects just one coral first not killing off all the SPS at once over the course of a long weekend.

Hello I have a question about QT. What I wanted to know is can I quarantine fish and corals in the same tank simultaneously?? I plan to use Polyplab Primer for corals to dip before QT and Safety Stop bath for the fish before QT the fish. And then aging dip the coral and use safety stop bath for the fish before adding them to the main display tank. Can you help me please.

Great video Than. Spot on. I always qt my fish and corals as well. I have a small tank all corals get dipped and observed for a month then I move them to a 90g Frag tank, dip them again and observe for another month. My main display will be a 600g tank so I have to be careful not to let anything slip in there. I like those dental glasses. Great idea..

It is good to take precautions especially in a tank that will be so difficult to get into to remove fish and corals.

I used to quarantine on and off but if I had to redesign my entire system again I would place the QT downstream of the main system so any water change water would drain into the qt first and the qt would then be drained to the drain. The QT would be completely separate of course and maintained with a separate set of controller modules.
@jimporter
@jimporter 4 жыл бұрын
Wouldn’t that risk introducing problems into your quarantine if you had an ich problem?
@Ellery-USA
@Ellery-USA 4 жыл бұрын
@@jimporter Not unless you have a bypass valve as well. The assumption is that the Main display is clean and if the water is just used to fill the QT as needed for water changes then you'd not waste good water for fish/corals. Keep in mind you'd want separate tanks for fish in case you need to treat them. To me there is a hierarchy of water requirements. SPS needs the cleanest water --> LPS--> Soft Corals --> Fish can deal with high nutrients than corals in general.

I've got a question. Is it better to go with a DSB (deep sand bed) with plenum of 10cm total in height , or just the common 3/4 cm , both with Aragonite, for more volume and space?

Quarentining should not be the consumer responsibility, if for no other reason, because distributors, LFS's can do it at scale and we don't. I don't know in which other industry is acceptable for distributors to use methods to hide and mask diseases just until they are out of their hands (I am talking especially about fish here).

Any suggestions?
