hi friends, and welcome to the first trash channel video of 2021! woohoo! keeping in the theme of the main channel video i posted last week, i thought it would be fun to share another big part of my happiness-healing process: re-decorating my bedroom / (prepping this room to become more of a guest room) !
This is going to sound a lil hippy-dippy, but every time I’ve changed my room is really marked the end of that era. It always happens to coincide with a big life change. I feel like I started my adult life in this room. It’s no secret that your space has a huge effect on your mental and emotional state--And cleaning out this room felt like closure and a fresh start all in one.
I’m so happy with how this room turned out and I’m so excited for the next chapter. I love you, thank you for being my friend :)

Okay can I just say how comforting it is to see that you, an extremely successful 20-something year old is living with her parents??!! Like I’m 21 and in college and I still live with my parents and so do all of my friends but for some reason (social media is probably a big one) I have felt such weird anxiety and pressure to be more successful and to have a house and a car and a bunch of money saved up which is SO RIDICULOUS!! I’m happy where I’m at but sometimes the anxiety can get to me and idk this video really made me feel a billion times better. Thanks Kat for all you do!! You’re such a light on this platform 🥰🥰🥰

I graduated college in spring 2020, and I really struggled with living with my parents after graduation. I try to look at it as a responsible choice I’m making (to save instead of shelling out money on an apartment) instead of seeing it as a burden!

I totally understand those feelings. But let me say that the 2007/2008 financial crisis really killed any stigma that previously existed about living with your parents after college. And that is especially true now in the current economic climate. Btw, I'm 27. I moved back in with my parents after college and stayed there for 2 years.

I also just re-did my room. I am a very broke high school student so it was more of a rearranging thing, but watching you talk about your room correlating with phases of your life really hit me. Something I'm looking forward to this year is a greater sense of self love that I was able to gain last year during quarantine when it was just me and my family. I'm so excited to take that with me into 2021. Love your videos so much!

For the throw blanket, I think maybe lay it over flat and then kinda scrunch it to make it look like you threw it more? I love the blanket tho!!

You can also add a lighter blanket to make the color transition easier on the eye - ex. I have a white patterned quilt, a big light grey blanket folded halfway, and at the very end is my medium tan throw blanket.

I rearranged my room a couple of weeks ago, just a few days after my boyfriend broke up with me. We had been dating for 17 months and he kinda pulled the breakup out of nowhere. Thats not the only reason I changed my room though. In two weeks I start my final year of high school. And in Australia, its kinda a big deal. The year is supposed to be pretty hard, adventurous, tiring and social all pushed into a 9 month school year. So my room now reflects a more productive vibe that doesn't remind me of my ex haha. PLUS, I GOT A DIFFUSER that I have been wanting for a year and it makes me so happy and really helps with my anxiety :) Thanks for a great video and I hope you have a lovely day.

Man, this video makes me so excited for when I finally move to a new place this coming year. I had a drastic change to my living situation last December(2019) and job insecurities made it not feasible to move this year though we had planned on it. This video was so nice to watch and really made me look forward to a cleaned slate(one that has some chalk on it but is still very usable)

Hey Kat! I just wanted to say that I loved the video! I had a very similar experience decorating during quarentine and it was super nice to see someone else who had the same experience talk about it. During my quarentine, I actually started a musical theatre sticker shop and that help me alot! I have even incorporated some Kat Steele quotes into the designs. Thanks from giving me inspiration to design and always giving me a laugh when I am down.

It would probably make more sense to put this on your closet cleanout video but I literally NEED you to see this. !!!!PLEASE DO NOT HANG SPAGHETTI STRAP GARMENTS BY THE SPAGHETTI STRAPS!!! I have so many thin strapped dresses and shirts that I have unfortunately lost due to the stitching connecting the straps to the bust getting pulled out by the weight of the garment when hanging. The spaghettis came unattached from the clothes!!!!! Tragic. The best thing you can do to keep this from happening is to drape the dress/shirt over the bottom bar of the hanger rather than hanging by the straps. This is especially important for heavier or lower quality clothes that are more likely to be damaged. Also, just now realizing that your dresses might be hung that way for KZfaq aesthetic reasons but in that case this is exactly what people mean when they say social media pushes a false narrative. Hope this helps!!
