Metal Detecting a Decaying Old Spring House Finds Early US Coins, Silver, & Cool Relics!

This week we continue metal detecting around an old 1700s Spring House. After a few hours we've already dug up 5 old US Large cents one of which was from the 1700s, a few pieces of silver, and some cool relics. We pick up the action right after lunch and the place just keep giving more of the same, large copper coins, more silver, more relics, and more fun! Let's see if we can break a record for most copper coins from one yard!

Before you identified the fire dept emblem I said it was a firefighter Maltese cross emblem. I have been a firefighter for over 30 years. That is so cool.

Amazing finds! my first was a button from a German Imperial Uniform when i pulled out some potatoes in our garden :D I thought to myself "what a strange looking potato :D

Those are bugles on Doug’s medallion. The number of bugles on fireman’s badge represent an officers rank. 🚒

Hey guys enjoyed the video. I’m pretty amateur with MDing but I enjoy it. Mostly find a lot of clad coins, some bling, stuff like that. I hunt municipal parks, beaches, etc, I don’t have time yet to research places and get permissions. Funny thing is, about a month ago I was in a tiny little park and I found a braided hair large cent in a flower bed. Part of it was bent at almost a 90 degree angle (mower must have gotten it at some point) and it was extremely worn down. I straightened it out and cleaned it the best I could. I think the date is 1838. So it’s probably not worth much, but in five plus years of occasional MDing it’s def my prize find. I still haven’t found a silver coin, and I’ve only found one wheat penny. I did find an old flip phone. Anyway just thought you guys would enjoy hearing about my large cent find. Keep diggin’ boys!

That one large cent with the big stars.......I don't remember what dates made them, but there were ones with large star variety. Very cool. Never seen a button with a date before. I thought maybe a coin turned into a button, but really looking at it......looks like just a button. Very cool there's a date on it. I'd like to hear any new info on that one. I love buttons. 😀

my guess for the 5 horns in the middle of the firefighter medallion would be to signify the different levels of assistance needed to fight a fire. 1-5 "alarms"

I’m glad I watched this one. I’ve only been at this for about a year now so still finding a lot of firsts. For the last couple of months I’ve been hitting this same spot in the woods where there used to be a farm dating back to the late 1700s. Found several copper coins there but only 2 had any detail. I also found what I had been thinking was some kind of weight but now I realize is probably a counterstamped coin where the only detail left is the stamp. I’m glad I held onto it now.

The 5 bugles in most fire companies indicates a fire chief's badge. The object on the left is a fire plug (hydrant).

I think the "Trumpets" on the firefighters medal were actually megaphones that were used for directing the firefighters.

hi guys its not a mill stone it is a sharpening stone. i have several of these that were used to sharpen sharing combs . you can identify by the shaft that has a seated area.

I would guess that firefighter emblem was probably a convention badge. The older firemans’ conventions would have a ribbon with a badge like that to commemorate the location and year of that county’s convention (or even state convention).
