So with the ground still frozen in most places we set off once again to metal detect in our amazing Field of 1,000 Holes. This time we go to a section we haven't been to yet to see if the magic of this place keeps extending outwards, and man does it! We get more of the incredible things we've been getting like old silver, turn of the century buttons, some awesome tokens, and then one piece that is so rare, that if it's real is could be worth over $50,000!

though I had some problem with sea water It also kzfaq.infoUgkxa-FNYUOM93a388gi9a4brtSCEVmrHgJH land for finding any things very easily. (thought it would work as normal due to it being water proof within certain parts of the detector), on dry land and sand worked well. My first one, so still have lots to learn

I believe that pin at the eight min. mark is a first-year award for the National Honor Society given to high school students. I remember them from the late 60s.

Spoons were sometimes used for planting crops, that's why so many are found in fields.

@@lukagarwood Because even back then, people were pigs and threw all garbage, including tokens they didn’t want, out along the roadside or in their fields.

Congratulations guys! I’m curious, have you gotten a chance to have the “Continental Currency” coin authenticated by PCGS yet? I’ve researched this coin in the “Mega-Red” book, depending on the variety of die used (ie. The “CURENCY” varietal) some of these show as being “Only Two Known,” or similar verbiage . An authenticated MS-63, BRASS specimen was sold at auction in July of 2009 for $299,000. Have you determined base metal? Just curious…?

The silver spoon is absolutely incredible!! Hope you are able to read and check out the hallmarks on the handle. The sterling standard (and stamp) was established in 1868, before that silver was hallmarked so the spoon is very likely pre civil war.

Doug's spoon is a Gorham spoon from the Strasbourg collection. I found a complete one. They were made between 1897 and 1899.

I think if you put a plumber’s soldering torch to a silver spoon, it makes it mailable enough to straighten out safely.

That's sterling, silver has that slippery, satiny feel when you rub it with your fingers. Some nice, ornate craftsmanship on display there.

I saw you on Treasure Talk and came on over. Nice finds, my favourite was that little bottle surface find and the last bent spoon. Use a little heat before bending them back to soften the work hardening and avoid cracks. 😉 As mentioned on the show, great video editing.

Either put your bent stuff in boiling water, or heat under low flame, such as an alcohol lamp before trying to straighten out your bent items. For bent coins I use an old leather belt, put them between two pieces of leather and slowly squeeze in a vise. Maybe have to warm them first.

Birmingham UK, a few years ago I was digging up factory tokens from the 1700s. Factory owners minted their own coins to pay the workers, the tokens could be used in local shops and the factory owners would redeem the tokens at the end of the week.

" 10 cents a dance " were Taxi Dancer tokens used in dance halls in the earlier part of the twentieth century. Some countries still do this. The dancers made a commission per dance. There is a movie and song called 10 cents a dance. Barbara Stanwyck starred in the movie.

I have a replica Fugio coin just like that and it was a bank promo from the 1980's. The slight wear and the deterioration of the low grade metal gave it away. Jason suspected it was a copy as soon as he saw it. Makes you wonder how it got there though.
