Hi Zeos, I can hear a difference between the filter options on my ES100, but to say any of them are better than others? I just stick with the slow roll off. If you click the little question mark next to the filter options, there is a really good description of the differences, as well as pictures of what is happening to the signal, and you can hear the difference. Click the question mark on the filter selection of the ES100, you will see it. The slow roll off is considered the "original" roll off setting, but I can hear a difference in all of them.

Qude-licks. Word is: one of the devs of the earstudio worked on the 5k. Been rocking my 5k for two months, my hd700 love them, as do my hd650. Battery = massive = 8-12hrs never ran out yet. Range = also massive, never missed a beat in my entire house, even going downstairs. I hope someone makes something like this that can do HDaduio and use a microphone at the same time.

Hey Brother...... The BTR5 volume rocker can be held and the volume will go up without having to press it one at a time... When I press it too quickly like that, it changes the track and then I find myself having a Zeos moment and then start to laugh at myself! Thanks for making really entertaining and quite informative vids! Much respect from a fellow Italian !!!!

I have OH10s aswell and I am looking forward to buy 5k. I am wondering what settings/codec are you using and what’s the battery life you are getting out of it? Can you describe your experience and what changed with the sound? Have you used EQ? If so, does it respond to EQ really well? Thanks!

@@rincis2280 I'm using it on an android with primary poweramp or tidal in bluetooth. Ldac (24bit 96khz), performance mode are enabled and battery life is pretty good still (can't get you an approximation since I plug it sometimes to my pc in order to use it as an USB dac so it recharges too). With absolute volume, I set it to -33db (with the protection so I can't go higher),which is LOUD but I can directly control it via my phone without quality loss and I still have some headroom for the volume. I haven't touched the EQ has much but I from what I can tell it's very complete and capable. It's an high precision 10 band eq with adjustable headroom (-6/-12db). All the settings are stored locally on the device so if you change phone or use it on usb mode, all the settings stay the same. The only problem I have with it are the controls, that's why I prefer the app or directly via my pc or phone. It's a bit for power users but you can keep it simple and it will juste work flawlessly.

I have been thinking about BTR5 aswell, but 5k seems like the better choice, even though it might be harder to buy in Europe (one store is in all Polish, so it is difficult to navigate) Have you used it sometimes where it is connected to your phone and on your PC using USB? If so, does it switch around if you are getting audio from either device?

@@rincis2280 You can choose your source priority but when it detects that for exemple one source streams audio and the other one stopped, it will automatically switch to that audio source. If you receive a call with you phone connected, It will override the current audio and ring directly through it so you are aware. You can also answer the call directly from the on device controls and speak directly with the nuit in mic. After you hang up, it directly switches back to the usb mode. Very stable for me. I got mine from a good seller on ebay and shipped it to France www.ebay.pl/itm/114660325676

With IEMs I can always tell the difference between the sharp and slow filters. Sharp sounds thinner but more precise. The delay filters make things sound muddy to me.

You really should review the Sony Pulse 3D headphones. Not because they’re great..they probably suck, but because the people that are contemplating buying them are on the shit end of the marketing stick and could probably use some guidance. Lure them in and open their ears to a world of physics rather than broken dreams and undelivered promises. Good chance to touch on 3D audio too.

Great as always, and I understand the issue with unlabeled buttons (just alpha characters would be fine) I don't see why it's such a big issue to locate the buttons in space. There's the clip to orient which side, and the jack for which end. When adjudting I'd just hold it clip facing in, jack facing up; no confusion.

10:40 "fifteen different levels because all phones are shitty" Y'all really need to get your hands on an LG V20-60 or G7-8x, my G7 has 75 steps and uses the same ESS 9218S DAC as this does (sadly only one, since the 5K has a second one that kicks in for balanced mode). I have had to learn how to trick it into using high impedance mode on my less sensitive low impedance stuff, but it really does a good job of powering my HD598SR, MDR-7506, PX-90, and it even handles my 600ohm AKG K141s pretty well. If I could get my old V20 back off the in-laws (buried in a storage locker) I'd gladly send it your way to try out

I have noticed a difference in the different filter sounds listening to a pair of Audioquest Nighthawk Carbons with an Es100 v2. It's not a huge change and I can't hear a difference in all of the settings, but I do hear a change in a couple of them.

@@redeyes1432 the difference between the two as I see it is that the Bluetooth chip in the 5k is a new "low power" chip which is 65% more efficient even with it's smaller battery (500mah vs BTR 5's 550mah). So if you're using bluetooth more often go 5k. They share the same Sony DAC so bluetooth audio should be the same, but the usb chip in the BTR 5 can go to 32bit audio vs the 5k's 24bit. TL;DR for bluetooth audio and battery life the 5k is better, but BTR 5 is a better USB DAC. Cheers

Biggest problem with the Fiio BTR5 is the absolutely abysmal bluetooth connectivity: BTR5 in right pocket/back pocket, cellphone in the left pocket, move around in an odd position and the connection can straight up die or, more commonly, starts clipping. If you want to use your btr5 as ANYTHING other than a pocket dac/amp when going out, then you DESPERATELY want an alternative.

It's also worth noting if you're on android you can enable developer options in your phones settings to force the bluetooth codec. Not only can you force the phone to use a certain codec but you can also choose the bit rate and frequency that it transmits at. I have my note 8 set to use only LDAC for bluetooth audio.

Couple years to late but this little wonder has been the best cheap u car $100 impulse buy I have made in a while. This has continued to impress with different ways I have used it. Originally just bought for the eq isine cipher presets for audeze isine because audeze stopped making the cipher cables and one if mine died. It has Bluetooth that honestly doesn't suck, has power to drive my 2021 audeze lcd x and other headphones that have no right to power. In fact I have taken some of these big plannars out in Walks for the heck of it with the power it has. It has good clean power and great separation and doesn't sound harsh , digital or analytical (boring) . I could easily sell the audioquest dragonfly red as it doesn't get used now. Anyone know where to get the balanced connector for this to take advange of more power? Thanks!

I returned the BTR15 yesterday and got the 5k this morning. I don't know if I had a defective BTR15 or people just live with it's faults. The FiiO unit was so buggy, it would disconnect and shut off when switching between USB and BT, I couldn't use EQ on one of them at all, the volume slider is locked on the phone in one mode so you have to use the tiny volume buttons. Sometimes it would just stop playing completely if I changed EQ settings and it needed a restart all the time. I factory reset the unit 3 separate times and no problems were solved. Also updated the firmware a few days ago to 3.5 and it didn't help. So far, I'd say the 5K wipes the floor with BTR as far as usability, although it definitely feels a bit more sterile, which is unfortunate. The clip on the 15 was cheap and didn't hold well on belt loops. The size of the 5K is so much more convenient for me, I stuck a metal plate on it and it sticks to my magsafe case. The BTR15 looks cool but it's not as practical, I could never figure out how to wear it that was accessible for the volume buttons.

I got a 5K last week. When I first tried to buy it, it was sold out. A week later there were just a few left so I hit buy quick. Note, I use it with IEMs. Coming from ES100, the first thing I noticed was better detail in the highs. Particularly cymbals sound more metallic and real. I also quickly noticed it sounds brighter, sharper and more aggressive, which I'm sort of hot-and-cold on. The difference is bigger on IEMs with BAs like the Mangird Tea than on DD ones like Blon BL-03. I *think* I hear some difference between the DAC filters, though it's really subtle and difficult to quantify. The graphs and text make you want to listen for changes in the highest highs, but I know I can't hear that. What I'm hearing is in transients and how bass resonates. I'm liking what Apodizing Type 2 and Minimum Phase Fast Rolloff do to the bass. It's a very subtle effect, almost to the point where I start to wonder if I'm fooling myself. Almost. The buttons definitely could be better. Way too easy to push both sides at once, and I keep wanting the UPPER blue button to be power, not pairing. The blue side does have a tactile bump at the top though, which helps locate the correct side by feel.

I've had a horrible time using the BTR3 and BTR5 with windows. The use of the mic requires switching bluetooth to hands free mode from stereo and output quality plummets. I was hoping to use this with videoconference apps but I can't get anywhere near the quality of even the $11 amazon special usb audio devices. The Qudelix just arrived and I'm hoping for different behavior out of it. Please add this test to these devices, my PC38Xs are sad.

@@PeterPaoliello I had both for a few weeks, I kept the BTR5. While the Qudelix is technically better in several regards I hated the buttons and the build. While it's decent, it doesn't hold a candle to the BTR5. The BTR5 feels like a solid chunk of metal and glass, where the 5k feels more like a hollow metal shell. I tested them back to back over 2.5mm balanced and the 5k does have more juice, but the BTR5 still has plenty to run power hungry planars (like Aeon closed backs, HifiMan Edition XX) without an issue.

It's true it has a learning curve regarding the lack of marking and Zeos addressed this well. But qudelix is better in all aspects vs btr5. App, power, sound costumization and carefree usage(lack of glass), hell it even makes a athm50x sound good!

I got the btr3k also no regrets, its like the btr5 but its bluetooth is fixed (lots of reports of btr5 buetooth issues) haha just minus the oled screen. This 5k is interesting but i really hate the build/design of it. The btr3k just feels like a solid device in hand with the glass and aluminum and the buttons feel great too it just feels like it will last a long time.

in the last month since i found you, you've become my go-to in terms of audio. your explanations are very useful for someone like me who itn't yet used to the hifi world, so thanks a lot for the always awesome content! by the way, i'm wondering if I am throwing away money if I buy a dac amp like these and use it on my marshall Mode stereo earphones? especially the earstudio es100, since the app would be a tremendous help to learn exactly what everything does. would those earphones do justice to these devices?

It certainly won't hurt, but I don't remember hearing much good about those Marshall headphones. If you get the 5k or BTR5 at least you'll be setup well whenever you get to upgrading up from the Marshalls.

I have both and i prefer the qudelix. It's honestly so much better and versatile I would be happy to sell the audioquest. Surprised how powerful it is. So much clearer and clear without harshness. It has Bluetooth that honestly doesn't suck. It's so much more useful with the ap.

I use that thing with a short, tailor-made stable to turn my ZMF Verite Closed into a bluetooth headphone. Insane? Yes! Does it work? Yes!

I was going to buy one of these but the button thing seems like it will annoy me. I keep hearing that the Fiio app doesn't do much and I wonder if they are referring to a different app. The Fiio Control app has a lot of settings divided over three pages, it includes EQ and the option to change Bluetooth codecs plus a lot of stuff that seems very technical and I leave alone.

Is balanced cable really worth it for other than the loudness? Asking for IEMs (SE846s)

Yes, it makes more of a difference with iems than with regular headphones. IEMs are more sensitive to changes and a better quality balanced cable should be a noticeable difference from a stock single ended 3.5mm cable.

I'll stick with my Btr5 with the DDhifi case on a lanyard, and bought short 45-50 cm cables for my IEM's, just perfect, no more long cables and putting it in my pocket.

@@d3nd4v2 I bought them from Ali Express. Fiio sells their own as well specificly for the Btr5 with MMcx and 2 pin connections( If you need 2pin ones and you don't have Fiio IEM's than don't buy that. I made the mistake and it was way too big for my Kanans pro for example, so I can't use it. Maybe it will fit other IEM's other than Fiio's own, but for me didn't fit). I needed QDC connection as well so I went to Ali and found a few options, similar quality than the Tripowin cable Zeos promots just much shorter, they around 30-35 bucks.

Yes, I'm into the 5K verses the Ear Studio...its going back. I'm kinda interested in the Cayin R-2R Dac given the Denafrips Ares II and its across the Bd Rave Reviews and not, being able to throw down on it, yet.

In regards to portable audio widgets... like BTR5 and the like, the important thing is how much of it can be used, without external software, because over time software will break due to lack of development and devices like phones and operating system versions moving forward... so there needs to be a longevity rating for such things, how well does it work as a dumb device etc...

After having it a long time, still works very well, this is basically bullet proof maybe? Everything FiiO I buy ends up breaking... I'm just... bad luck, bad wrong with them I guess. Just got a big software update.

I was thinking of getting one of these but nowhere sells it, including Chinese stores like Linsoul and Hifi Go, Ali Express don't have it or Amazon. You can only get it direct from the Qudelix website which seems very weird.
