Like most here, I listened to this band my whole life, and didn't realize until the last few years just how good they really were. I agree fully about Roger Taylor, no question. And I personally think John Deacon should be regarded as one of the top bassists ever, period. As an amateur bassist, this bass line is super hard to do. And he makes it look like a walk in the park. Incredible band.

I wasn't quite as lucky as you. I only saw them live twice in the early 80's. The first time was Madison Square Garden and the second was the Arena at the Meadowlands in NJ. They stand out as the best concerts I've ever been to and I've seen pretty much every great band you could name over the years with just a few exceptions. The only bands that were close, are The Stones and Pink Floyd with their original lineup minus Syd. Ok, The Who were pretty great too and so were RUSH & Springsteen. I didn't get to see the Beatles or Led Zep, but I did see McCartney and Robert Plant. McCartney was great. I found Plant to be just ok solo. I'm sure I'll get hate for that. LOL.

1:45 You can always tell when there is going to be a major timing change in a song because the whole band surrounds the drummer. Whether you’re in a high school band or in Queen, it’s the same system 😂 it’s because you really need to concentrate on what the drummer is doing, to make sure you don’t miss your cue. Watch them all disperse once the new time is set.

This is definitely one of my favorite Queen performances. One of my favorite things about Freddie Mercury is that he always incorporates the audience into his live acts. And Brian May’s guitar solo into Roger Taylors drum solo is amazing.
@susieq98014 жыл бұрын
the letter w - You neglect, as always happens with Queen, that the driving force in the entire song is John's amazing bass line. Why is he always downplayed? Bass is not an easy instrument but John was a master. At 4:06, Deaky even gets Brian back on the beat when he got out of synch!
@benstren4 жыл бұрын
Susie Q He’s a master at the bass! I should have mentioned it because the bass riff in Dragon Attack is amazing. They’re all so amazing.
@susieq98014 жыл бұрын
@@benstren - Can you tell I was a Deaky fan? Saw them live in 1980. Amazing show....not just a concert but a show! Some of his most famous riffs are his simplest (Under Pressure, Another one Bites the Dust) but others are amazingly complex (Millionaire Waltz, Sail away Sweet Sister to name just a couple). He played exactly what every song needed. Brian said he was very intelligent and worked out every bass line to perfection. Also, as a musician, I know if the bass hits one sour note, there is no way it won't stick out like a sore thumb. You can cover up on a guitar solo but not on bass. I think there's a reason that when you shorten bad ass, it becomes bass. :)
@benstren4 жыл бұрын
Susie Q I wish I could’ve seen them live. I don’t really like Adam Lambert’s voice, but I’d still like to see Brian and Roger performing.
@susieq98014 жыл бұрын
@@benstren - Lambert is, to me, a cabaret or Broadway type singer. He is a good singer but doesn't suit the material. He spoils the songs by overacting and his voice has nowhere near the power and depth of Freddie's and most important, the phrasing of Freddie, the ability to push and pull the tone, volume and texture of a song's lyrics for the maximum effect. That is a skill not many singers have in pop or rock (probably NONE currently). Of course there is always an onslaught of...he's not trying to replace Freddie...good, because he never could, in quality or sheer charisma. It is nice for people who never had the chance to see the original but IMO, not only - no Freddie, no Queen but also no Deaky, no Queen. They were a matched set but now two pieces are missing. Hope you get a chance to see them.

@@brnaneo1847 well said,i can understand africanamericans listening to rap and hip hop because it is closer to their expression,their culture, lyrics about ghettos,poverty,problems of everyday life,police violence, galisteningngs, etc. but for most other people is something alien,it does not move me at all,maybe powerdancing stuff like c and c music factory and similar music but even that is for cerain moments,rare,i like prince until diamonds and pearls album,and motown soul
