The anthurium warocqueanum, commonly referred to as the Queen Anthurium, has a royal place amongst anthurium fans and collectors. The leaves are gorgeous and iconic. However, it has a reputation of being a difficult plant to grow. In this episode, I share my biggest specimen, Queen Elizabeth, and my growing conditions for her. I recommend low to medium light, an all spagnum moss substrate instead of soil, terracotta pots, and moderate humidity.

This is my favorite obsession at the moment. I absolutely love warocqueanums!!!! I just switched all my Anthuriums and Alocasia’s from terracotta to the plastic net pot so they hold “more moisture”, which they do. Terracotta soaks up the moisture, which is why the roots stick to the sides of the pots to follow the moisture in the clay. Having a bowl of water underneath would be a good idea to keep the pot wet for the roots. You have a semi-hydro thing going on before PON came out. I see this video is 4 years old. 😂 Hope your queens are still doing fantastic. I have a third one coming tonight!

Great video, thank you!!! Hey if you get away from a urea-based fertilizer that is also high in soluble salts like MG, you may possibly solve part of your leaf-edge-burning problem. The urea needs soil to break it down, but that happens very poorly in an airy aroid mix. The salts burn your plant in those huge doses. Instead try something like Dyna-Gro Foliage Pro liquid fertilizer at 1/4 tsp/gal every watering. More growth (per UC Davis study it's ~ double in tomatoes) and less salt burn. Also, if you spray the leaves at the sink every watering or every other, especially the backs, you will eliminate spider mite problems 100%.

i got my queen from your etsy! I had 2 questions as she's not thriving. Her first leaf had some tears so its a bit crispy, i saw a little fuzzy mold around the edges of the crispiness so i sprayed with some baking soda water. Her newer leaf has a bit of a dry tip. I havent had to water her for a while as her spag has been moist up top. Do you have any tips as to why the tip of the new leaf might be drying up? And what should i do about the fuzzy mold as I'm trying to maintain some humidity for her to do well. Thank yOU!
@LegendsOfMonstera
@LegendsOfMonstera 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Maya! Thanks for supporting the store. Usually the crispiness is due to lower humidity. I notice mine starts to crisp up when the humidity is less than 55%. Sometimes it's due to harsh lighting. Given shipping stress and that it's adjusting to your environment, I wouldn't worry too too much about some crisping. As you saw on the video, my big leaf is crisping up a bit too.

With my queen I used to struggle to keep my humidity at 50% but often it would drop to 30% or 40% and I just saw my girl slowly drying up before my eyes. I have had and still have her in a pot with stones and water to increase humidity. I moved to a lower elevation and its naturally like 70% to 85% humidity and mine is taking off. Yours is way bigger than mine. Mine is still growing its newest leaf though.

I am a cheeky moo I take them to the tills (check out) and ask for a discount. I've got a couple of Freebies too from broken plants. It’s cool to stumble upon someone who has almost the same care for their Queens. I keep mine in Orchid pots, which is basically allows for similar airation. And same, kept in wet sphagnum in the highest corner of my plant shelf lol. Almost everyone I know says to keep in soil and in a sunny spot. But that doesn’t work for me LOL and having seen quite a few plants in nature myself, not these ones but lots in tropical areas since I do a lot of traveling, plants living in nature are nowhere near as beautiful as plants kept by humans. We have an idea of perfection that nature truly does not care for, because out in nature you will see philodendrons and Antherium’s crispy, burnt, torn, with holes in them all over the place! And thriving just the same LOL nature isn’t perfect. Humans like perfection, that’s why we strive to keep plants perfect. But they don’t stay that way by nature. That’s the most beautiful thing about it. There’s no reason to feel like a failure if a plant does not look or seem perfect. In nature, they’re struggling to survive just as much as the rest of us so perfection is not even an option for them. Great video! Thank you so much for sharing your insight and your knowledge. Much appreciated

Haha my friend, it's more like "war-uh-keh-ah-num". It's named after Raoul Warocqué and the acute accent over the e means it's pronounced "eh" as it is in say, "Pokémon".

Haha thanks so much. I will try to remember this but I tend to pronounce plants differently every time I say them lol. Thanks for tuning in and cheers friend!

tip! submerge the whole terracotta pot in water before repotting to avoid tearing roots!!!

This is a good idea!! I'll probably think about repotting when the roots really start crawling out of the pot
