Queen Elizabeth II: Tributes paid to Queen as King Charles travels to London

Tributes are being paid to Queen Elizabeth II, who died on Thursday in Balmoral. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
In the Houses of Parliament, a minute’s silence was held before MPs and peers began paying their own tributes, led by Prime Minister Liz Truss.
Books of condolence have been opened in churches, theatres and local council offices across the country and events have been cancelled.
At noon, bells rang out at Westminster Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral and in Windsor in tribute to the Queen.
King Charles is travelling to London and has already announced a period of royal mourning for the Queen.

Im inexplicably sad since the first moment I knew about her death, I'm not even british. But I had so much respect for the queen's devotion to her people. A life full of personal sacrifices and an oath fulfilled until the very end. It's a painful reminder that nothing last forever and change It's inevitable.

I recall fond memories of my Pet Iguana. She would flicker her tongue and whip her tail when dinner was about to be served. It took its last breath this year, while basking under the warm and soothing UV lamp😢 but Don't cry for me, She lived longer than most lizards🦎

She wasn’t just any Queen. She was _“The_ Queen”. You said “The Queen” and everyone instantly knew you meant Elizabeth. We all knew it was going to happen eventually, but I suppose she seemed so strong and so full of vigour only a few days ago, that it still comes as a shock. She vowed to dedicate her life to the British people aged just 21, a birthday I have celebrated only a little over a week ago. Until two days before her death, she remained dutiful. For 70 long, eventful years she remained a strong and unchanging icon; as many have said, a mother and grandmother to the British people. As an Irish woman, I will always have a soft spot for Her Majesty. She made a historic visit to Ireland in 2011, bowing her head in memory of the losses of Irish lives in our Gardens of Remembrance. She visited Croke Park, acknowledging the horrors committed by British governments passed. She also made a valued effort with our complex language (Gaeilge). She made her position on the value of Irish culture quite clear, despite having no executive power and using few words. Her actions said it all. Her kindness, responsibility and resilience are traits I will always remember. God rest the Queen, and long live King Charles III. 🇬🇧♥️🇮🇪

That is a great point. A woman so famous that she was known all over the world by her title. Even in places where that title was essentially meaningless. Astonishing how long she reigned, and how well she did her duty. She must have seemed like an absolute bulwark to her subjects. Condolences to the commonwealth. 🇺🇸

I've been looking through past articles and video's of the British Queen "Elizabeth II" since her passing on the 8th of Sept-22, it reminded me that she's a remarkable woman and the people of Britain will miss her deeply I’m sure. During her 4 day visit (3 in Dublin & 1 in Cork) to Ireland in 2011 she gained respect from most of the country for the way she conducted herself, i certainly seen her in a different light. Elizabeth II had a way to bring nations together through her foreign visits, something most leaders can't do these days. On the last day of her visit she got out of the car and walk the streets of cork city shaking hands with people against all protocol, she was in charge of her own visit and knew what was best...It was a simple gesture but stood out for me, loved that ... May she rest in peace, Irish Viewer.!

Shame when Prince Phillip died it was tragic to see this great lady quickly fade. I was hoping that at least she would stay around to take part in the Jubilee celebrations. She outdid herself by not only being there but even managing to play a part in a special video of herself and Paddington bear. Not only that but she even managed in her last days to welcome in the new auspiciously timed female prime minister. Signed and sealed she has completed her task and left behind the memory of a Great Queen who was not only an inspiration as a great royal leader but an excellent example to follow. Thank you Ma'am. You are now entitled to a well earned rest. My sincerest condolences to the Royal family and the British nation. This occasion has reminded me of the beautiful song sung by Mario Lanza in the film 'Student Prince' called 'I Walk With God'. I salute Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and wish His Majesty King Charles III the best and strength in the difficult road ahead. When Queen Elizabeth II was crowned she faced very difficult circumstances not only in her private life but also in the Kingdom and so does King Charles III I hope the kingdom will rally around him to be able to address these difficult times which not only affect the United Kingdom but also the whole world. I think many in the world are starting to see why we loved her so much. Because of the impact she had on us. The goermnemt may govern, but she provided a moral and spiritual strength we have just lost. All her energy was spent bringing comfort and soul-soothing words. She devoted herself to bringing people together and building bridges. She was above politics, she was our grandmother. We just lost a shining beacon we all hoped would not go out.

Thank you.i thought n.ireland didn't like uk.as I tried to live there for years.tried stopping from scotland then applying.to be turned down I'm welsh had to move from Southampton since moving at 10 yrs old.just because my brother and niece don't talk and wouldn't write a letter.yet I gave names and addresses. And was found on computer to be light.its not fair I have been staying there off and on for years police failed to give me protection from being beat at 70 yrs old by immigrant neighbour who's only defence don't like me don't know me.yet I'm turned down.i got more friends in n.ireland and have a life there.than anywere else in world.uk

@@jeanettereynolds3151 I am a citizen of the 26 counties of the Republic of 🇮🇪 IRELAND, the other Six counties are in the province of Ulster, Northern Ireland which is still a member of the 🇬🇧 United Kingdom where King Charles visited just today, Sept 13th. They still have many conflicting issues there relating to Nationalists and Unionists. They are a strange mix where elements of bigotry and resentment still exist. I would have no desire to ever live in Nr Ire however in the South, the Republic of Ireland is a welcoming place for all nationalities and for people of all backgrounds. Some of my close neighbors originate from England and are very happy here. Keep well, my friend, and to all our UK friends.

I loved the Queen & was fortunate to actually have a few minutes one to one chat with her 20 years ago, & as a former soldier I respected her for all the good she has done throughout her long & amazing reign. However.... Charles should have stepped aside to allow William to take the throne, because I believe if he were King, the Monarchy would have a chance of survival, because he would take it in the right direction! Unfortunately, there are many of us, including myself, who CANNOT forgive or forget the ILLICIT affair between Charles & Camilla during his marriage to Diana. Now that he is King, it is a DAILY reminder of what he did..... Now that she is gone & Charles is King..... Maybe it is time to talk about A REPUBLIC! I sympathise with Charles & the rest of the Royal family for their loss & offer my heartfelt condolences. We here in Canada one of the countries who still held the queen as our head of state mourn along with the British people. God save our Queen. In school in our early years we started each day with God save the Queen followed by the Lord's prayer. @@isay207 - the Royal Family, to date, is funded by approx £100 million annually . . . their own income which comes from various sources like the Duchy of Cornwall, etc, returns a 1/3 to 50% of that back in taxes paid . . . As for tourism, i.e. those who come over to watch the trooping of the colour or the usual changing of the guard at various places including Buckingham Palace generates a minimum £1 Billion plus annually to the UK . . . I'm not a staunch royalist - but certainly not a republican. And God help us if we become one, as a President would cost us far more to look after, and the income coming in via what is "royal tourism" would quickly disappear under one . . .

Im afraid the UK and possibly the world has lost one of its greatest role models. To be so devoted to your job for so long is a great achievement. It is no small task to put your personal opinions on matters to yourself all the time and just be there for everybody from every possible walk of life. Even till the very end at 96 and obviously unwell, having to deal with losing her husband, still performing her duty and giving an audience to the new PM. One of history's great and she will be missed as such.

I watched some of the tributes paid by our politicians in the House of Commons. I noted and respected the SNP leader Ian Blackburn's tribute but also acknowledging the burden upon Prime Minister Truss. The speeches that really stood out were that of Sir Iain Duncan Smith, Theresa May and of Dame Margaret Beckett. I also noted and appreciated the warm acknowledgment that was exchanged between Dame Margaret and Theresa May. Nevertheless, the grief utterly obvious and displayed by the Vicar at Balmoral was very impactful.
