Uh I don't want to be ignorant, but with the way it was pillaged, the corruptions, the abuse of women, was Ghana stable economically in the early 60's ,I see people with cars and wearing modern clothes ? At least the part the Queen's visiting

Ghana has always been stable, even today, even though it is in the cauldron below Burkina Faso and close to the jihadist crisis.

Briefly according to Wikipedia, the independent government declared it would be the only party able to run in elections. Following was a military coup, until finally 12 years after independence, a free election was held. Prior to colonization by the British who abolished slavery previously rampant, the Ashanti Empire was the preeminent power in the region. The nigh-theocratic Ashanti Empire was notable for its slave economy and military, but also for the war of the golden stool - the golden stool being a stool for the Ashanti King.
