A destructive queen who toppled an empire. Now that should be made into an animated film. Seriously with all the magic, spirituality, and legends in Africa there should be enough amazing stories for there to be a purely African counterpart to the DC movies and comics. Africa has been called the land of the gods. Out of all places in the world Africa probably has the most legends and myths about gods and super humans.

I have been doing some research on our Maori/Polynesian history, and its interesting to see linguistic evidence linking back to East Africa, in fact in Fijian mythology they say they trace back to a place in Africa, I cant remember where or the name though. So much (unknown/hidden) history to be researched, exciting and interesting.

First of all thank you for your lecture and the whole serious of videos makes me proud as an African when I come to my point some ancient sources shows that Queen Yodit ( U-HUDIT Gudit ) is from Dembia a place in north Gonder. To look the whole History there was power and religious rivalry between the Damot Kingdom and Axumite kingdom for centuries . And Queen Yodit Gudit is the one who is become successful in taking serious of military campaigns in to the heart of Axum in the10 century. Finally she become successful and she overthrow Dil Naode the last Axumaite Prince. interims of Axumite Jewry and Jewishness many Scholars highly doubt it, apart from the legends, recent archaeological excavation show that Axumite's used to worship Roman and Greek Gods. In fact through out Axum empire you could not find any Jewish emblem or signs. But after Yodit Gudit and her ancestors the Zagewe dynasty you can easily see that the star of David and the seal of Solomon on there buildings. But Axum is not perish forever in the 12 century King Yukno Amelak try to restore old Axumite tradition and dynasty and he become successful and his Grate Grand son King Yishak take serious of military expedition in to the heart of Gonder and he control them and convert the entire Gonder in to Christianity. in fact he is famous for the proclamation that he declares " if you want to till the land like your fathers be a Christian if not I will take your land and you can be a Felasha" he become successful and many convert in to Christianity but when they do they bring many Jewish customs in Christian Coptic religion . for example the use of "Tabots" or the Arcs in Christianity is an heard of even to Coptic Christians and to the rest of the Christian world, Source Meshafe Ze beamne Kalhe

Did you also know the black string Orthodox Ethiopians wear on our neck AKA "mahatem" is because of her. It was said she was beheading anyone that was Christian. People were ready to die for their religion, so they used a black string on their neck to say I'm Christian and you can have my neck but not my soul. Because of that; still at this age Christians in Ethiopian use their mahatem as a symbol of Orthodox Christianity.

After the kingdom of Axum made Christianity the national religion, the denizens that refused to convert from Judaism settled in the Semien mountains and established a state with its own governance. However, they still paid tribute and taxes to the Emperor of Axum as they were still part of the Empire. Then centuries of passive animosity between the Christian and Jewish citizens lead to Youdit’s father, King Gideon, to refuse to pay taxes and funnel trade into Axum from his borders. And the fact that the empire supported a Christian community in Yemen that was being persecuted by a Jewish kingdom lead to more division. As a result, forces that were sent to quell the uprising in the Falasha kingdom lead to Youdit’s father being killed and her assuming the throne. She made an alliance with the southern kingdoms of Sidama and Wollo who were vessels of Axum as well. They sided with her bc of their frustrations with Axum rule and together lead a combined force against Axum. She did destroy many churches and kill the royal family as well as many Christian leaders. But it said that after the bloody civil war, an era of peace and stability reigned for centuries that saw peace between the three main faiths of Axum: Judaism, Christianity, and various pagan beliefs. The story of her being a prostitute or falling in love with a Syrian prince who converted her to Judaism (at this point Syria was mainly an Islamic state) were created to both demonize Queen Youdit’s legacy and to distance the Beta Israel community from this pass. After the Zagwe Dynasty ended, Christian writers wanted to degrade her past while Jewish accounts wanted to vilify Christendom. However, many Falasha and Habesha alike actually embrace the legacy of the Jewish Queen who usurped the throne one of the most powerful nations in the world!

Queen Yodit Gudit. Alot of tells about her specially in Ethiopian Orthodox Church. The Church is known to keep records. And yes she was as brutal as said.
@ZeeHilal Жыл бұрын
This is fascinating. I like what she did to the axumites royal lineage who I heard through another video had a strong slave trade. She is amazing! She sounds like a warrior from the bani hilal! She sounds like she had been hanging out with the north african Berbers and found out how to do the right thing. Probably why Ethiopian people are still a strong people to this very day. No matter how many have tried to suppress it. She is like a superhero badass. Look up abu zayd of the bani hilal and you'll understand. He was a black skinned hilal and he was the champion of the bani hilal. There is a book called 10,000 desert swords that tells this epic. The sirat is a song still sung in the African continent about these people traveling around trying to survive in different mean kingdoms that wanted to destroy them until the end when they unify and overthrow their oppressors. It seems to match this historic folk lore like when the queen overthrew the slaver kingship and restored the kingdom back to it's spiritual roots. Even comparable to how Jesus destroyed and rebuilt the temple. These were the same bands of mercenary abolitionist outlaws I'm pretty sure, and they also spread Islam before going down there to Ethiopia I'm sure. It is a tragedy they tell Greek mythology in schools but not this mythology which is very important to human culture for people to know
