Brilliant reaction; so pleased you acknowledged John as the backbone of Queen. Both he and Roger the drummer were known as "the sonic volcano" due to their loud, tight rhythm section. A lot of reactors concentrate on Freddie and Brian, who were fantastic as always, but it's great to see some love for the other two. In addition, Roger is crazy on those drums whilst singing backing vocals, harmonising and filling in some of the high notes for Freddie when necessary. Best live band ever!

Sonic Volcano - first time hearing that. Tight tight tight. I always keep an eye out when Freddie head home - which is usually toward John or Roger when he needs a check in or a charge.

Fantastic reaction! I like seeing you smile throughout the performances. Wembley '86 is a really fun concert to watch, the whole concert flows very well, and the crowd is great. The concert started off with One Vision, a song dedicated to Martin Luther king, the whole band created the song together, there is a great short documentary on the making of his song which shows them working in the studio. Next up was Tie Your Mother Down. That was followed by a medley always always did great medleys when they performed. The medley started off with In The Lap Of The Gods Revisited, this is really the first song that Queen wrote as an audience participation song, it is a great song. You can watch Queen performing the song in their younger years as well, In The Lap Of The Gods Revisited live at the Odeon Hammersmith 1975 (Freddie sing it better in 1986 then in their earlier versions). The next song in the medley with the nice piano opening is the Seven Seas Of Rhye. This was actually Queen's very first hit song back in 1974. Check out the Rainbow version, it is amazing at the Rainbow. Seven Seas Of Rhye - Queen live at the Rainbow 1974. The last song in the medley is the 1984 Work's album, Tear It Up, it is just a fun hard rocking song. It is great that you can see what John is doing on the bass as well, since he is such a quiet member of Queen, people don't always recognise his skill, he is highly respected in the bass playing community. He is often voted as one of the top ten best bass players in rock. Of course as always Queen was full of energy, but it was an interesting time, this is the last year that Queen performed live. Freddie Mercury was starting to realize that it was becoming quite difficult for him to perform in this manner, he was officially diagnosed with full blown Aids a year later. Freddie also actually had a cold at this show.

I love watching people react to one of the few ROCK bands that I think can legitimately be ascribed as VIRTUOSO in every respect. They truly were to rock music what Mozart was to classical , and earned every letter in the damn word GENIUS! I heard them as a boy in 1975, and my face looked just like yours listening . The American music scene at the time had never heard anything like it . To this day there is no one I can think of that can equal them. They are who inspired me to a life of music , and playing guitar in bands through the years . RIP Freddie..you were certainly the Eighth wonder of the world..

This was at the end of the Magic Tour throughout Europe, including Hungary, to where people hitchhiked from all over behind the iron curtain. An amazing concert (or rather two concerts). I think it’s the Milton Keynes concert (1982) where Freddie’s energy and voice are just mind blowing as well. In the 2012 Queen and Paul Rogers concert in the Ukraine, Roger Taylor sings a beautiful song in Freddie’s memory (Say it ain’t true). I love his voice. Now you can sing with your mother ‘it’s a kind of magic’😀

Thank God for KZfaq! Those of us who never got to see Freddie Mercury or Queen in their prime missed out on true magic. I was born in 81 and never heard of Queen except for the usual stadium anthems We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions, and Bohemian Rhapsody was just a weird song that got played on the radio a lot. Im in my 40"s now and a huge Queen fan. Their music is about all I listen to lately and i love it! Im forever grateful that people thought to preserve videos of Freddie Mercury and Queen on KZfaq so late comers to their music like me can enjoy and rock out to the greatest rock band of all time!

Great reaction to a FANTASTIC concert! Rory, you might want to look at the video "The Wembley Weekend" which was released by "Queen Forever". It is in 2 parts. In it, Roger Taylor and Brian May talk about the concert, how QUEEN members decided the format of the show - where to place the songs - the acoustic issues with the old Wembley stadium, etc., and how it felt to play that show which they didn't know at the time would be one of the last shows with Freddie.

Yes, John's bass just added that perfect umph to a lot of their songs. Lots of new listeners do not realize this and think it is Brian. He does add a lot to the music but John is the heart to lots of their songs.

Did not want the break with the flow of the songs back to back rushing over...but something to be said for delayed gratification! In an interview I recall someone talking about how at one time bands just played music on stage as if they were in their garage letting loose, mostly for themselves...not the case here. There is a clip of Queen exiting the stage, so you see them from backstage...drained of everything, towels awaiting them. Rather poignant. It might be Wembly or Knebworth. The fullness of having completed the set and the emptiness of nothing left -- till you get the second wind rebound.
@celiamolina-rg7cr3 ай бұрын
This is not the original song that they use in the movie “Highlander”. Roger wrote the original one “Kind of Magic” for the movie. When Roger went to sky on vacation, Freddie arranged and changed some of the lyrics, Freddie add more bass rhythm to the song, he add the same solo Guitar, but make the song as a ballard with more rhythm. When Roger came back from his holiday, Freddie played the new version of the song. Roger said that is not the same song that he wrote but he liked. This is the song that they’re playing on the album and shows. It’s a little modified than the original that Roger composed. I think the bass gets the song to a different level.
