Marie Laveau is not the only powerful queen to honor the history of voodoo and traditional African religions. There were plenty of other queens but history tells us that much of the recorded information has been whitewashed and only a few names have survived such as Queen Nanny of Jamaica, also known as the Queen Nanny of the Maroons.
We are going to talk in this video about Queen Nanny. This video will be a bit of a mix of spirituality and history. Don't forget to subscribe, activate the notification bell and leave a thumbs up.
The name Nanny is said to be a title given out of respect to the elder women of the Akan people of Ghana. Nanny was considered both a warrior and a queen, she was a powerful leader and her skills as a warrior could be relied upon.
There are many stories about Nanny's life. Some say she was a runaway slave; while others say she may have had her own slaves or she may have arrived free in Jamaica.
