Margrethe II of Denmark talks about her close relationship with Queen Elizabeth ahead of Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee. Queen Margrethe II hails Elizabeth's "dedication" and her sense of humour, describing the 96-year-old monarch as the same person on the inside as she is on the outside.

I am an American who has lived in Denmark for 20 years. I know very well how Queen Margrethe II respects and admires Queen Elizabeth. Margrethe takes her job just as seriously and can empathize with Elizabeth well in many ways, but also because she too lost her husband, Prince Henrik, in 2018. That has been a blow for both women.

Margrethe II is a fascinating person. Accomplished archeologist, accomplished painter, designer of fabrics (including vestments for pastors/bishops), speaks 4 languages. Someone I would definitely like to sit down with for a drink and a cigarette.

@John King - Though there are health issues, I love that in the case of Queen Margrethe II you added the cigarette to accompany the companionable drink. I have not read that she's quit smoking, so suspect she would be happy to light up.

The Danish people can be justifiably proud of their Sovereign Lady as we the British people are justifiably proud of our Sovereign Lady. Two nation states absolutely blessed with incomparable Queens at their head. God bless them both.

Queen Margrethe is another constitutional monarch with a fantastic smile, and who has always had a fantastic smile. Through thick and thin, she always seems to be optimistic and finds some joy everywhere, even shopping for vegetables. And now she has passed 50 years on the throne. May she reign and bring joy to her people through her service for many more.

I agree. How disrespectful that word was used ..the Danish Qheen had no need to " gush" over anyone since every ( almost) royal family derives in some way or other from HER family. She is the lynch pin. And how lovely Crown Princess Mary is..she and husband will be wonderful when theid time comes..

No, I’d say most European royals “derived”, as you put it, from Queen Victoria. Queen Margrethe and Queen Elizabeth are third cousins.

@@daphnethurlow5388 The royals of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Spain, Greece and Germany and Romania (though no longer monarchies) are/were all descendants of Queen Victoria. Even the Grand Duchess of Russia, though not really recognized because no more Russian Empire, is a descendent of Queen Victoria. Her grandmother was Princess Victoria Melita of Saxe-Coburg, daughter of Prince Alfred, second son and fourth child of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. They are all distant cousins. They didn't call Queen Victoria the Grandmother of Europe for nothin'. ;-)

Yeah I agree with her. Our Queen 👸 does a good job and she's always kept herself accountable and humble as she possibly can as our Sovereign head, despite every challenge that's been thrown at her. I'm in awe of the person she is and I have no doubt that her heirs have learnt so much from her. I wish I was able to give her a big warm hug

This is a wonderful dedication to Queen Elizabeth and I totally agree with everything that was said our dear queen is so dignified and yet approachable and I am sure that both her father and her uncle knew full well that she would be totally dedicated both to all she reigns over and makes sure she knows about everything her hours spent to duty must take up the majority of the day and so when she has a little time she really deserves to spend it peacefully with her horses, dogs or whatever she desires god bless her and keep her well 🇬🇧❤️

Her Majesty Queen Margrethe always speaks wonderfully well on ANY subject she puts her mind to, and she does it with a smile. I find her interviews relaxed, charming and enthralling. It's lovely to hear her thoughts and views on the only other Queen in the world in 2022, and the longest reigning Monarch ever, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth of Great Britain, Northern Ireland, and other realms and dominions ❤❤❤🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

To be spoken of with absolute respect, endearing words of kindness and sincerity as Queen Margrethe II has, really tells the tale about the person she is speaking of. It tells the tale of who she is as well. That is wonderful! ❤ Queen Elizabeth II is one truly interesting and amazing Lady I have always wished I could meet. She's quite a woman, quite a person. I could watch Qurn Margarethe all day long and half the night too if it comes to that. She's been on the throne since whenever, is highly tallented at whatever she does, is well informed and modern in her outlook, yet holds to traditional values. She has a lovely family and despite her high rank she could literally be everyones favourite Grandmother. She's adored by one and all, and very rightly so.i simply adore her as if she WERE my own grandmother.
