The production process in this. They do everything by themselves! Each one of them really had their own part. Not to mention they’re all songwriters too. Queen is really THAT band. They’re THAT artist. So it’s really true when Brian said they’re not just a band. They’re a creative group.

I think what impressed me most was that when anyone had an opinion, they felt they could express it. They risked arguing constantly because there are some big egos at work, but somehow accommodated each other. That’s what working together for 13 years does I suppose. There is at the heart of this a kind of understanding of the whole being bigger than the sum of its parts.

In the early albums you can tell a Freddie, Brian, Roger or John song apart. They would have fights about writing credits and who gets what. In an interview I have heard them describe the songs as their babies and they were very protective over them- this was around the time they were being massively underpaid by management so money was an issue in the early days. By sharing writing credits in the Miracle and Innuendo to remove any negative energy at the time of Freddie's illness according to Brian, they utilised all of their unique talents and created some of there finest work. Innuendo is my favourite album in fact and was loved by the critics at the time. John became particularly depressed during this period, as when he joined, Freddie took him under his wing. It saddens me to see people harassing to this day for autographs.

Several things I took from this video: Freddie has his fingerprints on just about every aspect of the process. The language they developed from years together made the songs so much easier to flesh out. Brian's tone is just silly good. Freddie's overbite is much more pronounced that I realized. And the fact he smoked and had a voice so pure is amazing.

Maybe the video is deceiving but I’m just struck by how respectful of one another these guys were. I’ve heard Freddie and Brian talk about how they all argued about songs and such but can’t imagine them ever raising their voices to shout at each other. Sure there was lots of swearing by Freddie but in the most respectful way possible. 😂 Freddie even said in one interview that they may not have liked the songs written by one of the other guys but they still performed it. That’s talent recognizing talent and having the utmost respect for each other.
