This song proves that Freddie was a performer in every sense of the word. This song was written by Brian, but Freddie sang it from deep within his soul, he imprinted every bit of emotion that was needed and even more on the vocals. He plays the character of this song’s tortured lover majestically, he gives you goosebumps, he shows you that music is a transcendental experience.

That's like "These are the Days of our Lives" was written by Roger (Taylor) and is actually about his children, but Freddie (Mercury) left his "mark" on that song as making it a "farewell" to his fans.

I hang my head and I advertise A soul for sale or rent I have no heart I'm cold inside I have no real intent Save me save me save me I can't face this life alone Save me save me save me Oh I'm naked and I'm far from home Each night I cry I still believe the lie I love you 'till I die Save me save me save me Save me save me oh save me Don't let me face my life alone Save me save me oh I'm naked and I'm far from home

What I love about Queen is that no-matter who wrote the song.. (in this case Brian May)... everyone in the band is fully committed to it.. theres no 'its not my song so I don't give a fuck' shenanigans going on with any member. Taylors 'Radio GaGa'..Deacons 'You're My Best Friend'... Mercurys 'Somebody To Love'........didn't matter... they were all-in.

The song perfectly captures the spectrum of emotion you feel from being left, going from fear: "I can't face this life alone", to anger: "The years of care and loyalty were nothing but a sham it seems", to sadness: "Each night I cry, I still believe the lie", to desperation: "I'll love you 'til I die", to emptiness: "I have no heart, I'm cold inside." I love Queen so much.

It is 43 years since I have both listened to this song and more so - watched the video. Even aged 7, I loved the beauty of the animation and significance of the dove. The final scene where the woman falls to her seeming demise, yet transforms, has stuck with me ever since. I still think of this scene, regularly. The reference of being reborn - and thus liberated - as birds, spans so many cultures, with it’s poignant commonality.

I was only 8 when I heard queen for 1st time as the band came to milton keynes bowl in UK and I can hear the music from my own bedroom few days later I learnt from other parents talking on way to school that they went to this brilliant concert. During traumatic times throughout my childhood then 2015 fighting cancer now today I have anoughter cancer scare but I always turn to queen and just for a short time I genuinely forget and start singing and I'm in a happy place. Queen have been with me every step in my life good or bad and now 49 years this year and I will never get bored listening to this amazing best group ever. ❤❤

Totally agree, didn't hear this song on The Tribute back in 1992, it should have, one of thé most beautiful songs Queen ever made. It's a bit of a 'forgotten' song I think. I didn't know the title of it until I bought their first Greatest Hits- album. I wondered at that moment if this song stood on the album...and it did, Thankgod! I knew it existed and I 've never forgotten it.....I was 9 or 10 when I first heard and saw the video. Thanks to KZfaq I could document it into my personal music-files along with other Queen-vids.

@@sjoekiloeki Their catalog is so vast a lot of songs get lost along the way, I saw them do this live during their tour for "The Game" album, which this song is on, in 1980. For me it's one of the best if not the best love song in history of rock, Brian is one of the best songwriters of all time, Roger's drums are spectacular, especially those powerful backbeats on choruses with his iconic opening of hi-hat on snare hit. John bass have unique melody not heard in any other part of the song, it's like living it's own life. The bridge solo is enough to bring a grown man to tears, "Each night I cry, I still believe the lie, I love you till I die..." is one of the most beautiful lines I heard in any song Listening to this song creates a ticking warm feeling in my chest and like I'm about to cry any second... I just can't how are they so good. And Freddie... His singing is unique for every song, I can't remember any other song where he sings like here, it's so intimate, it's a little buried in the mix, like a broken soul tries to break through "Saaave me!". And this beautiful compilation of piano (which shows on intro, verse and outro), acoustic guitar (which EXCEPTIONALLY shows itself on choruses and especially the bridge). And Brian's guitar tone.. oh my god, that "waterfall-like" moment on the verse, and it's the only moment where guitar shows on the verse, it transports us to pre-chorus I think, if you can call it like that. But oh my god it sounds like crying of any human ever, Brian understood human emotions on such deep level. I could write a few thousand words about the bridge solo, it's my favorite moment of the song and one of the most emotional moments in any Queen song for me. When Freddie sings "Each night I cry" - listen carefully - the guitar solo continues to sing with that silky, creamy tone, you can hear better on other mixes of that song. But you can hear the guitar choir actually ends only on "...the lie" and I don't think you can hear that on this mix, but guitar steps down to a note that would lead to other chord, not the one that played with acoustic. Acoustic plays C - D - G - C, and guitar leads more like to C - D - G - Em. It's just one note that makes difference for me (if you could hear that note on this mix). And oh my god the "main" solo... strikes from right ear like a LAZER. And so clearly you can hear beautiful sound reflections that creates space in the middle, like it literally stands (the guitar) in front of you and cires, screams at you : "SAVE ME! SAVE ME!". And then Freddie starts to sing, but the guitar continues: "NO! NO, SAVE ME! SOMEBODY HEAR ME!" and then it steps down with to perfectly complete Gm (I think) chord, iv - the arguably the most melancholic chord, all accompanied with beautiful airy Queen choir™. And I like how on last Freddie's scream before "I'm naked.." you hear Queen choir this time singing "Sa-ave me-e!", especially can be heard on left ear. Freddie screams "ooh..", and you can hear distinct Freddie's and Brian's voices in the left ear. The piano on the end.. like a person that falls on the bed, tired from pouring all of his soul in this song, and we're left with this this feeling like: I expressed all of my emotions now, and I soon will be ready to move on, no matter if the message of this song is heard or not... I LOVE THIS SONG
@MoZaHo

This song shows exactly what Freddie was capable of doing, and that is this: Brian wrote this song, but Freddie's vocals make you believe, that his happened to him. His emotion is just awe-inspiring, and it shows in his music, his stage presence, and his passion. What a legend.
