A slight different sound to how I expected it. But we know with expectations comes hope. However with this expectation, we got a great joy. The gentle sway Seal brings into the rock sound Queen are providing. Is something really special. FM would be honoured. This is reaction to Queen & Seal with Who Want To Live Forever at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert.
"touch my tears with your lips, touch my world with your finger tips" - this is the line that really drives the message home. How do we learn to love? then sing these lyrics aloud. They are really great as you already know.

They looked so sad, poor things. And yeah, it was difficult for them. One of their friends said they were devastated after the concert, especially John. And there's a heartbreaking moment during Bohemian Rhapsody where you can tell that Brian forgot for a moment that Freddie wasn't there and his face when he sees Elton John instead is a like a punch in the guts.

It had to be really hard for the singers with everyone comparing them to Freddie. Hard for Queen as well because they had to change the key for a lot of the songs because few had Freddie's range! At least they cared enough to try!

It's a bit weird that Freddie's death makes me so sad in 2020, but when he died - although I was shocked and sad at the time - I was too busy between work, marriage and two little ones at home. No KZfaq back then either. I have had the DVD of this concert since it was first released, but didn't think of exploring their music online until the beginning of this year (dummy!). Now it's like grieving for the first time. What a loss.

When Freddie died, it was not only an unexpected tragedy but also a shock. Despite Live Aid, HIV and AIDS were not well known subjects, and when Freddie died, it hit home that anyone can catch it, and so the Freddie Mercury tribute concert was not only a concert dedicated to the late singer, but was used as an opportunity to make an effort to try and tackle the HIV/AIDS virus. The money raised set up the Mercury Phoenix Trust, which is a charity dedicated to raising money to fund research in finding a cure against HIV. Freddie is a brilliant singer and performer, but this is made much more vividly by how people couldn't really fill his shoes in this concert. They sang as best as they could, but the show stopping force was just not there. The closet, however, came with George Michael's performance of 'Somebody to Love', which was so good, that when it was released as a single, it went to number 1 in the UK charts.

It’s so sad that no one knew about HIV/AIDS back then, it was such a new virus and unfortunately Freddie got infected and died before the medicine was available to be able to survive. The concert did bring awareness to the word and did raise a lot of money for research. You are so right! With all the different performances that day it only showed that no one could or ever would be as great as Freddie! I did love George Michael singing “Somebody To Love” , he was the closest to Freddie. I’m from the US and didn’t know he released it as a single and it went #1! As I usually end a post... Freddie 4ever 🤴🏻🔥🎤🎶🥰❤️💯‼️ My unreachable angel 🧖🏻‍♂️🇺🇸

Amazing performance of Seal , that made Roger and Brian get emotional, and Roger at a time (min. 6:18) looks like he could not holding his tears. Heartbreaking. George Michael and Seal were the best of all those who participated in that tribute concert. George put his heart and soul into his performance, as did Freddie. And while he was singing Freddie's favorite song, (Somebody To Love), his boyfriend was suffering from the same disease. Very sad.

I have watched this several times, and each time , I can't keep my eyes off of Roger, he does cry, when the part come to "When Love Must Die", he played his drums so hard, and so strong, it was like he was taking his sorrow out on the drums, and poor John, he just fell apart, crying, all in all, Seal was trying, but it was the rest of the band that broke your heart, and knew that they were crying and dyeing inside ...for the loss of there Brother/Friend....as I have said before, I love your reactions to Queen music, your the best, that is why I subscribed , your ear for the details is wonderful...thank you for being you ,.God's speed and Love, stay safe my Friend

I agree, the situation must have been extremely hard for Brian, Roger and John to play these songs without Freddie, just some months after his passing. It surely was a reason for John to retire, he simply couldn't bear it. They rehearsed quite a lot with the singers before the show to make sure, everyone could deliver their best.

I‘m thankful for that until this day. Never the less, I always liked Radio Ga Ga a lot because of the crowd. They were just amazing. Paul Young was poor compaired to Freddie, of course, but the choreography was unbelievable. You can see they all did it for Freddie. And I love Axl Rose doing the hard rock part of Bohemian Rhapsody. I think that the reason that Brian didn’t play that particular note is because Seal was singing in a different key than the original song. So Brian’s note on the guitar would no longer match as a continuation of the note sung by Seal.

👏👏👏 reaction .... I heard this at the time and wasn’t that impressed but listening again it was a much more creditable performance than I remembered so my thanks to you for that. Brian’s guitar twang at the end .. not there maybe because Freddie’s vocals were so strong it went well but may he didn’t do it cos Seals vocals were softer and it might have been too strong a counterpoint in this version. I'm a huge Queen fan who stopped buying or listening to new Queen records sometime around 1983. So when I saw Seal, a huge favorite of mine at the time, up there, I was impressed. MTV broadcast the whole show, so I watched it live. Seal, however, was singing a song I was totally unfamiliar with. As hard as this is to believe, this performance was the first time I had ever heard that song. Of course I quickly checked out the original. Queen/Mercury played it in a higher key, and there were parts of the song that were cut out in this performance. Nonetheless, not a bad way to be introduced to a lovely song.

The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert is a great concert that honors Freddie’s memory. Most of the artists had to adjust their range cuz they couldn’t do it like Freddie. But it’s awesome for them to donate their time & talents. Axl Rose sang “We Will Rock You”, Joe Elliott (Def Leppard) sang “Tie Your Mother Down” with Slash on guitar, James Hatfield (Metallica) sang “Stone Cold Crazy”, and George Michael ended the concert with “Somebody To Love” which was pretty darn good. Heard that one of the artists wanted to sing “Love of My Life” but Brian said kindly .... No.

Yes Seal did sing “Who Wants To Live Forever” at the Tribute Concert. He said it was the song he wanted to sing, but his performance was quite a let down! Seal has a beautiful voice but this was totally out of his genre! To me the music and words were the only things I recognized. And it seems like he forgot at least the last part”who waits forever anyways”. I had to go listen to Freddie after hearing Seal. The only performer that I really liked at the tribute was George Michael! Queen, Brian, Roger and John did an outstanding job playing the songs but if you watched Brian’s face he did show emotion often! (I have the concert downloaded and watch it about once a month! Your reaction was good. But missing the last line of the song and Brian’s red special ending leaves much to be desired.

It just came to me when I listened to this, that he changed the last line to be more positive. Maybe "Who waits forever anyways" felt a little cynical in the moment. I think he sang "we all need a chance to live," if I'm hearing correctly. On the whole, though, I do agree with you.

i can understand why you don‘t want to do all songs from that concert and that’ll be my last words ´bout that concert but think of a few others. of course, there were george michael together with lisa stansfield doing „i want to break free“ but also doing solo „somebody to love“ with a choir in the back; george once was under discussion for singing lead for queen by the way. robert plant of led zep doing „innuendo“ and „crazy little thing called love“, roger daltrey of the who, even liza minelli or the great david bowie with annie lennox doing „under pressure“. anastacia, james hetfield of metallica and a mix of many other greats of different genres, but maybe the oddest pairing of artists were elton john together with axl rose of guns nˋ roses doing „bohemian rhapsody“!!! and what is also remarkable is tony iommi of black sabbath’s playing rhythm guitar to many of the songs. there are also good rehearsals of some artists with queen for this concert on youtube in case you want to circumvent the concert😉. excuse me for hanging on to this.

The Freddie tribute concert highlighted just how good Freddie was...because with the exception of George Michael everyone changed the key to the songs and still struggled to match him...the smart ones didn’t try. Also worth remembering that as well as being an emotional day for the band it was the first time in nearly 6 years they had played live....and it was on live TV shown around the world to a billion....no pressure lads! Brian said that without Freddie most of the songs fell apart because he wasn’t there to cue changes etc...so that made it even worse. Modern singers doing Queen songs....Tom Chaplin with Queen doing it’s a hard life is fantastic & so is Pinks live version of bohemian rhapsody complete with operatic section

This was great, I hope you'll check out the Adam Lambert performance too that I linked at my old comment (if you need the link again here it is kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m66AqZthz7TTgYk.html ) . The song is ''Crazy'' (here the link to its music video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aqyTaZqqttm0oYU.html ). To me it is such an different genre and I would've never thought I'm into music like that. That song really gave me 2010 ish Vibes although the song is from 1991 it _really_ surprised me, it feels like the music I would listen to with my sister back in the day. Seal said he didn't have a clue why he chose this song..because of its power. But all the singers had to sing in a different key..the only true singer who managed it was George Michael with Somebody to love at this tribute. Roger looked really sad in the backround too. John looked completely sad all through. John said he didn't want to do the concert by the way because he didn't want to hear others singing theirs or Freddie's songs... John really struggled following Freddie's death. Roger noticed at the very end when they were saying goodbye that John was visibly upset and knudged John to go off stage..then followed him off to which John cried buckets backstage.

This is heavily edited. The tribute concert was done by many singers taking Freddie’s part. There is a copy of this song on the www that is horrendous. Seal was totally out of his depth. Seal is great at his songs, but this was a bad idea. Seal is just horrible. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kKyGfseTyKmaZpc.html is the version without overdubs.
