One of Brian's most beautiful and heart breaking songs, when Brian sings it I feel his sadness, but when Freddie sings it I feel aching loneliness, pain and loss, I think that this was a part of Freddie's gift, he could make you feel the emotion of the words.

Brian said in a documentary that it was wonderful to write a great song but you were truly blessed to have Freddie sing it. Great reaction!

Both versions of this song are incredible in their own unique ways. This was the first version I heard. It was released several years after Freddy died. It's from the 1995 album Made in Heaven. That entire album is pure music gold! This song impacted me in a tremendous way. I had finally dealt with coming out, and having fallen in love with a man I could never have, in fact he ended our friendship when I told him I was in love with him (he gave me this album for Christmas and so this song will always be connected with him) all the while holding on to a long time love I could also never have since time, distance, and life put us on completely different paths. Being torn between the two, but living with loneliness and the struggle with it all, plus trying to accept myself and finding more pain and desire to be loved by someone than I had happiness all became voiced in this song in a way that spoke to my soul. This song served as a warning I never took lightly but in many ways the pain had already taken a great toll. It tore me up when I heard it the first time and it tears me up still. Hearing it I knew Brian and Freddy understood what I was going through and living with. This song is embedded deep in my soul and will forever remain there. It's beautiful. I love Brian's version equally as much as I love Queen's version. I learned to play it on the piano and even that tears me up. Thank you for reacting to this version of the song. You are a truly gorgeous man with a beautiful soul and a kind and passionate heart. I always enjoy your reactions. You listen to music both intelligently and emotionally and it shows in your thoughtful and honest commentary. You're awesome my friend! Blessings to you!!!

I love the lyrics, because we all know the situations and emotions that are written, but when Freddie is singing about them, we can really feel the pain.

The brilliance of Freddie is that he can take a song written by Brian, Roger or John (or whoever, thinking of The Great Pretender, Time Waits for No One, In My Defense, etc.) and make it his own. He brings so much emotion and passion that people mistakenly think that he wrote it and it’s about dealing with his illness or his sexuality or whichever relationship he’s in. Brian’s version is very personal to him and that comes through. Freddie’s version has a different emotion to it, it’s very powerful in its own right. Which is better? Neither, because they are both brilliant.

Seeing your heartfelt moments, made me wonder...maybe we feel what we need with the types of music we gravitate toward. Some people change their tastes as often as they change their clothes. Others adopt a singer or band for life. But when one imprints upon you, ir can be equal parts refuge, inspiration and companion. A sort of personal soundtrack that you choose for life lived between tracks, wherever it takes you.

This beautiful heart wrenching song was written by Brian May, along with songwriters Frank Musker and Elizabeth Lamers. Queen first recorded it (with Freddie’s vocals) in around 1988 during the sessions for The Miracle album - but it didn’t make the cut because of legal issues after the band’s decision to share credits equally. Brian then arranged a solo version (his own vocals) , performing it at The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert , then recording his new arrangement for his 1992 solo album Back To the Light. When the surviving band members came together to finish up and polish the back-catalogue Freddie vocal efforts in his final years for a posthumous album, the legal issues got worked out and they included the Freddie rendition on that album, Made in Heaven. Some people get caught up in debating which one is “better” - but both renditions are amazing, and I love both !

SO Glad you saw both versions. I had seen the Queen version first and loved it and of course the lyrics fit with Freddie's illness. I had no idea that Brian wrote this about the breakup of his marriage and his version gutted me, Beautiful and emotional and I had not previously heard his vocals front and center. Made me a huge Brian May fan also.

While I prefer Brian's version of this song because of the emotion he exhibits, Freddie certainly does this song justice as he makes it his own. Yes, this video was made after Freddie's death. The song had been put in the vault because Brian wrote this song with a few friends outside of Queen and the royalties were going to be too complicated so it didn't make the intended earlier album. Thank you for this reaction.

composing the song is everything, the softness in the way it starts, then slowly builds just perfectly with the expression of the lyrics, each and every note , and word and guitar riff, a drum beat, the solo, the climax of that solo and the way it crescendo's , then with the guitar screaming the high note and Freddy coming in just ahead of the chorus with his screaming his high note leading into the words, it's all put together like a puzzle for JUST THAT EXPRESS PURPOSE, to being the emotion out of you, that song there is so well thought out and pieced together, it's beyond amazing, I cry every time I hear it, the same with Time Waits for No One, cry cry cry, these guys really know how to compose a song and bring feelings out of people. the chord structure and how they are placed into the verse and chorus is all done to make a person fill with emotion of some kind, they are masters at it, and Freddy is the grand Master at making people feel and cry over his songs//voice, the best there was,, is, and will ever be

Brian has a song titled '39. I forget which album it is on, but Brian sings the studio version. Freddie sang it in concert. Check out both versions. Also, Roger wrote I'm in Love With My Car. It is on the Montreal 1981 concert video. Roger sings lead on it. It's right after Freddie sings Killer Queen.
