Amira has sung many pieces that are not, strictly speaking, Opera - Nella Fantasia, (Morricone), Pie Jesu (both Lloyd Webber and Faure) , Amazing Grace, O sole mio . . . and her latest album is at least 50% crossover, with a number of songs that were written specifically for her. Watch her performance of Gabriella's song. You're right, comparing her with Jackie is pointless.

@@jordannash1998 It is quite common for over-reacting from judges, it's all part of keeping viewer interest, I think almost everybody realizes that. I do think tho they would have been shocked all the same. Your comment about Amira needing improvement is an obvious statement again. I think we all realize seeing that she was a raw talent at that time, and it was made clear that she'd had no prior professional training. She had outstanding ability even then.

Can you not get your point across without shouting about it lol Her performance, for her age was outstanding, and I and many others I'm sure didn't take too much notice about the judge's reactions. She was naturally nervous and I think that might explain her slight off-note. Stop being such a mc'ranty face and put your energy into something more worthwhile.

I assume you are referring to Deanna Durbin? The only performance I can find on YT by her, is the Schubert Ave Maria. Amira sings the version by Bach/Gonoud (the performance by Deanna Durbin refers to this, but it is the Schubert version - can you not tell the difference?). Amira has also sung the versions by Vladimir Vavilov and by Gomez, but she has never sung the Schubert one.

At that point in Amiras young life Amira was indeed self taught. Amiras parents are musicians however they were only able to help Amira a little.

Not really Amira is seamless and it flows so nicely. Laura who I am impressed with has a lot of vibrato and clears her throat a lot it seems sometimes she can't hold the note as long as needed. Amira when she first started taught herself how to sing Opera. Which one do you I feel is the better one. My heart still goes with Jackie when she sings Opera she his hard to beat..

Well, I don't want to turn this into an argument about who is best; but I would draw your attention to two points: Firstly, vibrato: It is used by Opera singers (and also string players, if you watch their hands) to add "brightness" to the sound. A little is good, but a lot is not better. Amira and Laura appear to have it naturally, Jackie seems to use "chin-waggle" to generate a false vibrato. Amira has by far the best control of it; the best example is her performance of OMBC at the 2016 Classics concert, but you can't see this on YT - in it, she demonstrated that she can slow the vibrato right down (just as Maria Callas could). Laura seems to be learning to control hers a bit better. Secondly, resonance ("squillo") - look it up on Wikipaedia if you're not familiar with the term. This normally takes years of training, but Amira has it naturally, see www.oxfordsinginglessons.co.uk/understanding-resonance-with-mri-scans/ - look at the people he quotes at the end of the article. This caused some people to complain that she was "shrill" on the high notes; but she has recently learned how to control it, as you can hear in her new album. As far as I can tell, Jackie does not have this, and I can't tell with Laura.

I agree 110% with you, I went back and watched all 3 of these singers over the years and after that I am now hard pressed to say which is the best. They each stand out in different areas that make them fantastic. Amira is just a strong and wonderful Opera singer. Laura at her first time on America's Got Talent she showed a lot of Vibrato and the highest note I have heard, since then she has a lot better control and I love to hear her sing. Jackie, what can I say? she is just one of the best my only wish is she would just stay with Opera where she really shines. I am no critic I have used these 3 ladies over the last three years to heal my soul after my wife died in Nov. of 2015. I was in the Hospital for 5 days with a complete nervous breakdown. Once out I heard Amira singing again and somehow it started pulling me out of depression and has given me back my life and soul. So I am very grateful to them for saving me and love all three of their voices. Thanks

@@dafyddllewellyn6636 Excellent explanation. I also felt that Jackie had to create her vibrato - it didn't come naturally. Laura, I felt tended to sing from her upper chest and forced the notes out through not having proper breathing technique. At the end of one song, she looked like she had run a marathon. Projection of the voice is what gives it power and depth, which comes from breathing technique, neither of which Jackie and Laura have. I've also noticed how Jackie switches between an opera-like voice to a more pop voice in the same song. Amira is in a class of her own, and I believe a legend in her own time.

U do not know any thing about jackie she has had no formal training her mother put her in to class at 9 years old for only two weeks the teacher told her she was already the cake and that she was going just put on a little iceing check out you tube there are at least 100 videos of jackie from age 7 than at 10 she made it to A G T NO FORMAL TRAINING

Ajax, you are so wrong. I doubt that Jackie had as much training as Amira had before being on HGT. I know the phony backstory HGT spun, but I also know the Facts. Amira's grandfather was an opera singer, and her whole family is involved in music. Amira was a member of two choirs, including the one her father is a member of. Amira has improved greatly since HGT, and I wish her only the best. If she continues to study and train, I am sure she can become an opera singer, just like her grandfather.

Jackie is all hard work. Amira is all talent.

Rehoboth, yes that's what I was thinking. Hard work is what makes greatness. Whether Amira with more talent can put in the hard work and produce a quantity like Jackie remains to be seen. It's hard to tell at this early stage of Amira's career.
