*Not For Media Use Without Valid License*: Severe thunderstorms exploded all around the NYC Metro during the evening hours of August 7th, 2018 with intense cloud to ground lightning, torrential rains, and even a very visible Wall Cloud (shown at the beginning of this video). No tornadoes touched down on this day, but rotation was detected by Doppler velocity scans as the storm moved over Queens and Nassau County.

What I found so interesting with this storm was that when it arrived in my area, it didn’t rain as hard as I thought it would. But it did give a great lightning show.

Brings back fond memories of visiting my grandparents in Queens, when I was a little kid (1970~1973). Since moving to California, nothing really measures up to this.

My friend lives in Tarzana near LA since 1987, but grew up here in Queens and says the same exact thing lol.

Awesome video! I think I may have filmed that storm, I had a counter-clockwise rotating wall cloud just before this video was taken in Hollis Hills Queens from a discrete cell ahead of the main line of storms that came through.

Woweeee....Scott...after years of the many lackluster Tstorm seasons in a row for your area.....2018 has shown quite an abrupt change..... as not only you got quite a video showing here((and awesomed at that..))...so did ''Wvigotty'' from Valley Stream LINY..he too got a lot of CGs and thunderclaps..same evening....I saw his own video and commented... This weekend of 8/11/18...Tstorms are a very good bet....even for my own area too.....albeit there goes my mowing jobs and my night's sleep....but I am also always ready...This very date in 1980...1983 and 1985...big Tstorms over our area...perhaps you remember those three events..the one of 8/11/80....the thunder was so loud that during the national convention delegates inside NYC's Madison Square Garden could hear the loud thunder..albeit deep inside the noisy ''theater''..the same MCS did bring southern RI tremendous lightning and great thunder at 245am 8/12/80.......as I was here visiting from my then home town of Port Washington LINY and got a nice audiotaping of it.....8/11/83...brought severe weather..including a tornado that smashed thru airport hangars in Allentown PA...and I was later told that Cape May NJ had nonstop lightning that evening... and 8/11/85..I audiotaped a loud evening Tstorm in stereo.... So..Scott....we were all wondering as to WHEN those Tstomrs will ramp up, finally? wonder no more..they're here...radar shows as of 430am THIS SAT 811/18... several cells over eastern LINY and S of Valley Stream.... and next few days...expect more.... Meanwhile.. much fondness...James

Very true James! So far this August has been very active in the NYC area. We had tornadic storms on the 2nd, and more severe/strong storms on the evening of the 7th, the 9th, 11th, and again yesterday (the 14th). Hopefully more to come this Friday with the approach of another cold front.

Yes James, August certainly turned out to be active for us here in NYC. And with another heat wave coming next week, hopefully when that one breaks, we'll get another round of storms as well.

I remember this so first we went to chuck e cheeses before it rained and we played for about an hour (i dont know exactly how long) and after we left it started raining bad

Oh man that is awful! I have a few friends who live up by Juniper Valley Park who regularly get flooded.

Thanks Krystle! Yes, these storms popped up pretty quickly, and I just didn't have enough time to head up to the local park where I'd have a better view. So, I shot it from our front porch essentially haha. See you soon!

Wow what a wonderful tstorm hear, love thoes nice close cgs and that nice wall cloud! James let me know of this amazing video!
