Props to Nick for hitting those high notes in the chorus to save Josh's voice for other songs. Playing a bass part as involved as that while singing is no joke.

Nick is great in this vid, his "hey" screams are awesome and his bass tone just fucking kills.

There's an interview with josh floating around about how brant bjork and nick thought it would be sweet if brant was in the band: "They talked themselves into the idea that Brant should be the drummer, and they actually started to tell people that he was. So I said to him, All right, Brant, lets see what you got. He had to play the drum parts that Dave Grohl had recorded, and quite frankly, he couldnt do it." long story short, Joey is in the band. Josh doesn't fuck around.

Bass sounds amazing compared to studio vesion, espcially in the chorus. Long live the Queens!

im not saying youre bashing castillo, but it seems like almost everyone bashes castillo and misses dave. IMO he's great. He was good in danzig and is amazing in qotsa. He just has his own style of playing drums. There must be a pretty damned good reason why he's still in qotsa. and dont get me wrong, dave is one of my fav drummers.

dave was better at making the drum parts for some of qotsa best tracks and live he was really tight but some of joey's stuff on ltp is underrated and his energy live is amazing

thing is tho one of the hardest parts of first it giveth is the chorus and joey castillo doesnt play it the same way as dave did its a simplified version and even on no one knows joey doesnt play the same fills. joey castillo is still my favourite drummer along with dave

that is not point in the slightest. my point was that joey castillo simplifies some of these songs i.e no one knows and first it giveth but he still plays them amazingly and is my fave drummer

@deathmetaldouglas69 I think it may be contrived a bit, plus another member told me that there is a feud of sorts happening between brant and josh. whatever the case is, I think Josh has a goal in mind and doesnt want people to fuck it up for him. Some of his fans find that to be troublesome, making josh a shitty person, then whatever. I think its honorable that he actually has the balls to direct his band mates towards a sound he wants. so many bands just want to hold hands with eachother. lame

@BoothJudas Brant could'nt handle it? I kind of find that hard to believe, but it could be true. Those Fu Manchu records are more than a decade ago so is Brant not the drummer he was back then...or is it the giant drums (26 bass drum, rack tom the size most drummers floor, ride cymbal the size of a car, etc.) that fooled me into thinking he was that amazing.

Dave Grohl should still be in QOTSA, Songs for the Deaf was way better than anything the Foo Fighters have done. Who knows how big they'd be if dave and nick were still in there.

i prefer all the other drummers to castillo, i mean i'm sure trautman or hernandez would struggle to play what dave did, but this guy has been in the band for 6 years and just cut it

@yovioleatuzorramadre led zep and sabbath IS good music, but i knew about those bands when i was 10. listen to the mars volta or minus the bear or portugal the man. btw, the mars volta has had 3 drummers, and each one is vastly better then grohl or bjork. check out thomas pridgen and (my personal favorite) jon theodore. THAT is drumming. hell, i bet you don't even play an instrument. less likely drums.

I wouldnt jump straight to that conclusion. The tom and kick micing is pure shite, along with the tuning. If you pick apart the clicky crap and replace it with a real tom and kick it sounds pretty dead on
