Lili They really are a thing. There are plain digestives, which are really boring and only good for dunking in your tea. Then there are digestives with chocolate on one side, which are much nicer. They’ve been around forever. I googled how they got the name “digestives” (it’s Sunday morning and I’ve nothing better to do) and it says on Wikipedia: “The digestive was first developed in 1839 by two Scottish doctors to aid digestion. The term "digestive" is derived from the belief that they had antacid properties due to the use of sodium bicarbonate when they were first developed. ... First manufactured in 1892, McVitie's digestive is the best-selling biscuit in the UK.”

Every time someone compares British biscuits to American cookies, they compare our trash packaged cookies to the delicious British packaged biscuits. Listen. I don't even consider packaged cookies real cookies. Unless someone baked them at home, or you bought them at a bakery, they're trash. British packaged foods in general tend to be miles better because y'all have better food laws than we do. (I studied abroad there and I love your biscuits, so nobody kill me. I'm just saying. Other than Oreos, packaged American cookies aren't even worth mentioning. Maybe Pepperidge Farms.)

To me, the most incredible thing about the Brits I've found out after a number of times going back and forth from Italy is that they are not always polite. Sorry!)

When traveling, if I see a large, boisterous, too-loud group up ahead of me blocking the sidewalk and carrying on, and I cannot make out what they're shouting to each other just yet, I look at their clothes and shoes. If they're wearing comfortable casual, they're Australians. If they're wearing to-die-for fashion, they're Italians. Never fails. The two loudest peoples on earth. ;0)

@@jeanvignes I know, we really are and it bothers many people. It's absolutely unintentional, trust me. Just try and go to a pub: 2 Italians who really engaged in a conversation can be as loud as 15 British people in there. This applies only if football isn't on and alcohol isn't involved, in which case we both become equally annoying af 😅 When I stayed in England, my English boyfriend thought I was always fighting while talking with my mom on the phone, because of the rhythm and the tone and volume of my voice! It's kind of hilarious the great difference between our cultures, even if we kind of have known each others for a long time, right? In fact, I appreciate those diffences, it's so much fun for me to just being aware of this little things. Makes you evolve as a person, it gives you a more plural idea about the rest of the world. This is just my opinion, obviously. And I love the Brits btw, especially your sense of humor and your amazing language and spoken varieties 😍

.... Hard disagree on the cookie/biscuit question- I feel like every biscuit they mentioned was something you'd buy from grocery store, but if you ask an American about their favorite cookie, very few say Oreo or Chips Ahoy, we'd instead name something you make at home or get from a bakery. Home made ALWAYS wins when it comes to cookies. Do British grannies make hobnobs? I'd be happy to be wrong🤷

Prepackaged biscuits in the UK are different to the ones you get in America, they are generally better quality, ranging from very cheap to luxury. I have tried Chips Ahoy, you can get them here in the pound shop (like the dollar store) and they tasted like sugar, salt and oil to me - I'd never had a biscuit that tasted that artificial before! I do like an Oreo though. We also buy homemade things and make our own. Hobnob is a brand of biscuits, bourbons and custard creams are a type of biscuit that any shop sell. You could make them yourself if you wanted to. A lot of supermarkets here have bakeries in them that sell freshly made cookies.

I've only had an Oreo in terms of American biscuits but British Biscuits are a little different. The biscuits custard creams, bourbons, rich tea, digestive etc aren't really specific to one brand (though I think many were created by McVities). They're more a type of biscuit that shops have their own version of which you could create at home but it would be a bit odd to do so. People might be inclined to make their own shortbread or cookies (a type of biscuit which usually has a chocolate chip in it) but you can still get nice ones of them from the shops.

Fun fact: the left side of the road is correct because when people rode horses most people would be right handed, and riding on the left meant that if the person approaching you on the road is an enemy you can easily wield your sword and attack them

In my country we drive on the left, but when i tried to drive for the first time (it wasn’t on the main road) i tend to drive on the right bc i watch too many american car vlogs while they’re driving and my mom had to remind me over and over ‘woahh to the left! Come on!’ 😂👏🏻

The fact that Americans don't think Brits really swears is astonishing, we turn swearing in to an art form. I've never heard 1 single Brit not swear at least 20 times when we speak... Like fucking hell

I'm half English (Mum. & born in) and half American (Dad). I learnt to swear in Boarding school (UK). Swearing is VERY GOOD FOR YOU. In America it's legal to carry a gun but illegal to swear (on tv). SO... how INSANE is that??
@DaBearz-wt7xp
@DaBearz-wt7xp 5 жыл бұрын
Andrea Andrea it’s not illegal......... They just can’t swear cause most channels they want their rating to be around PG-13 or lower in order to appeal to more advertisers, as advertisers like to associate themselves with more family oriented channels. Lol that’s why MTV is like 70% sex ads as they can’t get much other things

@@DaBearz-wt7xp Ok... so, there is no 'actual law' on the street. But I'm speaking CULTURALLY, ie ... what is culturally 'out there' ... the unspoken RULES of a society. How is it alright to have the extreme violence that is allowed on television ... but no swearing? Swearing is like that little nozzle on the top of a pressure cooker. A society that swears abundantly, and LIGHTLY, lets off steam ... reducing the need to 'go postal.'

Andrea Andrea So? We have tons of channels specifically for kids (Disney, BooMerRang, Nick) that don’t swear. Then there are channels like Comedy Central and HBO that curse all the time. It’s not illegal it’s demographics and marketing.

Young common as muck Brits in the tackier resorts are virtually feral. But they spend money? The local authorities could make them less welcome by outlawing some of the practices that encourage that behaviour.

There are resorts in Spain and Greece that permit the most frightful behaviour, much of it from young Brits. There are also places in Spain and Greece that attract a better class of traveller...Brits amongst them.

I'm an Australian. I tried Hobnobs once. Ugh! Sorry but overrated. The reason that American chocolate tastes different is because of the ingredients they use. I was told once that it's common to use powdered milk instead of liquid milk.

I once sat in the front passenger seat of a mini-van as the driver (a British man) right beside me and his wife (a British woman) who was in the third row of seats tending to their infant, held a lengthy conversation of which I could not clearly hear/understand ONE word! It was like they were bats or some other mysterious species communicating in sounds that I could barely hear and certainly could not understand. Secrets of the Whisper People would be the name of their movie. How they do it, I have no idea, but OF COURSE they think we're "too loud". LMAO!
