Radagon's character makes me laugh a bit. He's like the epitome of that kid who repeats a joke you told them but louder and gets everyone to laugh. "Hmmm Raya Lucaria sealing sigil? I can make a better version. Rennala's Moon Sword? I can make a better version. Miquella's frisbee magic? I can make a better version. Myself? I can make a better version."

Radagon being like a Leyndell agent that destroys Raya Lucaria from the inside is very interesting, but I wonder if he was actually conflicted about what he was doing and had any real affection for Rennala or if he was just blinded by his devotion to the Golden Order and did it with no remorse. I really wish Ranni had dialogue about him and her other family members, she's the only demigod we get to talk to more extensively yet she never mentions them, which is funny since we're going aroung hunting them and killing her brother Radahn is even part of her questline.

I appreciate the fact that this WHOLE thing is just running off facts and theories with no fluff or fanfare. This is actually more engaging, more information density. This has the same amount of lore spec content of a 3 hour video from pretty much anyone else. Funny how much time you save when you're not mixing in monologues over game footage. Awesome video as always! 16:55 I wanted to put in my two cents about Rennala’s summons. I believe that phase 2 of Rennala’s fight is actually a projection made by Ranni of how her mom used to be. Since this is technically Ranni, the summons are also probably related to Ranni; The three wolves could represent Ranni’s Shadow Blaidd, or are the three wolves that she gives the player along with the spirit calling bell/the three wolves in front of her Rise. The troll is probably meant to be Iji, her war counselor and a troll. The dragon might represent Adula, whom befriended Ranni after he was bested by her and now guards her at the Three Sisters and the Cathedral of Manus Celes. And the Bloodhound Knight is probably supposed to be Bloodhound Knight Darriwil, whom is locked up in an evergaol and is implied by Blaidd to have betrayed Ranni (maybe conspiring with Seluvis).

Fun fact, the original summon for the Bloodhound Knight was supposed to be Blaidd himself, since there's unused dialogue by Rennala summoning him, and you notice she says nothing when she summons the Knight in the final game.

26:26 Interesting point there. Judging from Turtle Pope’s dialogue, we know that Radagon left Rennala to become second Elden Lord after his union with Queen Marika but before he left, he bequeathed the Amber Egg that she is found cradling when we meet her in-game. *puts on tin foil hat* He states she was left heartbroken because of his departure, but what if there is more to the story? What if he left her the egg so that she would be bewitched by it? Let’s look at some details on the Amber egg: We are given dialogue from Gideon that the egg contains a Great Rune, and further progression into the game reveals it to be the The Rune of the Unborn. The rune is not revealed to be associated with any god in particular, much like the Rune of Death, but there are some interesting implications on it. Mohgs Great rune reads - “Mohg and Morgott are twin brothers, and their Great Runes are naturally similar.” Judging from that item description, the Rune with the most similarity to it is Malenia’s, who was Miquella’s twin. If this egg does contain the Great Rune of Miquella, possibly his soul too, then an explanation for the shape of the rune could be his curse - the “eternal childhood” - and possibly why the juveniles are imperfected and stuck as children. This brings me to my theory. Rennala is overly attached to it, calling it her little “culver”. We know from the Bewitching Branch that Miquella had the ability to compel love and affection and if we look close, we can see traces of it inside the egg, particularly the white buds before they hatch. We know anything that’s mixed with the blood or essence of Miquella tends to stay in a premature “infant” form, hence the Haligtree being stuck as a baby version of the Erdtree and now the buds inside the egg.

Another sign that this might be a connection is the Slumbering Egg item! "Owl eggs that will never hatch Prized as a symbol of the most sublime slumber." Of course she calls it a culver and the slumbering eggs are from owls, but it's a small possibility it's a reference to that.

This is dope. I actually like this format a lot, this is just a straight up history lecture on a fictitious history, with like the energy of "here's all the important shit that you need to know that will be on your final" and I love it. I never looked at the Radagon/Rennela marriage as an intentional sabotage by Radagon, possibly at the explicit command of Marika, and I never put 2 and 2 together that maybe the reason the academy rebelled against Rennala was because of her going off the deep end and making all those clone things. I always sort of assumed that she was locked up and then went mad and despondent from the isolation, but the reverse actually makes a lot more sense. And Radagon going into the marriage intentionally trying to steal secrets and sabotage Liurnia completely explains why he divorced Rennala and went back to the Erdtree- it was just a straight up "mission accomplished, got what I came here for, deuces." It almost makes me wonder if Radagon was already 'part' of Marika (not really clear on how that union even really works) because it really lines up with her schemes to be like "okay, my main female avatar or body or whatever is going to marry Godfrey and use him to defeat the fire giants and stormlord, then drop him when he's no longer useful, and my male avatar is going to marry Rennala and steal secrets and divide the Carian royals from the academy, then drop her when she's no longer useful, then end game I'm just going to be married to myself so that I'm the sole person in power." The dialogue where she refers to Radagon as a loyal dog not yet part of her suggests Radagon wasn't 'always' her sort of second self, but chronologically we have no idea when that dialogue was spoken- could've been before Radagon led a host to Liurna or was even an important player at all, and he really was just an exceptionally loyal or talented member of the Golden Order that Marika turned into her puppet. I think it's generally assumed that the union happened when they got married and Radagon became the second Elden Lord, but Marika theoretically may have already secretly body snatched him and turned him into her sleeper agent to destroy Liurna from the inside well before their official matrimonial union. Though that then gets into how much free will Radagon had and how of one mind he and Marika really are, as it seems that he definitely still has some agency since he's trying to repair the Elden Ring that Marika shattered. Maybe he was originally completely malleable and completely willing to do whatever dastardly, schemey shit Marika suggested, and that's why Marika picked him- a "leal hound." Then eventually with the shattering, shit just got too dastardly even for him, and he started to work against Marika. Really cool video!

I think how the chronology of Marika speeches works like this: the oldest are from Mountaintop of The Giants all the way to Limgrave which are the more recent (when she was defying the Golden Order). I think that speech she mentions Radagon is just after she defeated the Giants and returned to the capital, Radagon probably was still married to Rennala down on the south, but not for long

Fantastic video, and mind blowing lore conections as always. Had the feeling the Eternal Cities and Liurnia were conected but this is unquestionable evidence in my eyes. I've always been a fan of nordic mythology and I'm glad you pointed it out here, because I picket up a couple more conections that I think could reinforce your case for anyone who wants to read it. I will try to be concise. - In the poetic Eddas (a book of mythological poems) is described how the world tree is born and later burned to ashes, and after this, a new world starts anew, in cycles. Much more like how the Eardtree represents the Golde Order cycle. - Under the worldtree roots there are not 2 but 3 natural springs or "wells", all 3 in different lands, all related to the dead and the underworld. You talk about 2: Urðarbrunnr, which is the well of Urðr (translated as Fate or Origin, so this is "the well of fate" or "the well of origin"). This is where all life came to be, including the world tree (The crucible?), and is taken care of by the 3 Norns, which are more than oracles, they dont read the future. They are The Fates, they carve present and pass into the bark of the tree to make the future (I can't remember which item description mentiones fate or runes being carved on the tree, but I'm pretty sure there is one). Mímisbrunnr or the well of Mimir (memory, so the well of memory) which is situated in the Jotunheimr, which is the land of the frost giants (where Muspelheimr is the land of the fire giants) and this is where Odin drops his eye in search of knoledge (the worldtree's memory). And there is a third one, Hvergelmir (boiling spring?) located in Niflheim (the misty land, the underworld). This well collects the liquid that fells from a big stag's antlers. This stag feeds from the leafs of the world tree (regal ancestor? ). This is also where a dragon called Níðhöggr lives, and this dragon poisons the world tree by biting its roots. I see already way too many similarities to be a coincidence. I believe the Eternal Cities are mean to represent the nordic underworld. And there is also the fact that the 3 wells is where life is born and also where the souls of the dead end up, to later reborn, and they are all at the roots of the tree (tree burial). - In norse mythology there is also a lot of literature about Idun and the seeds of the world tree and about a goat named Heiðrún that eats the leafs of the tree and produces a golden mead and its golden drops fall over Midgard (literaly as you mentioned, the land in the middle). - As an offtopic, I wanted to point out a historical practice used quite often in myth called Sacred Marriage. This practice had the objective to legitimate the king as a divine ruler. Basically there was a high priestes which was the embodiment of a goddess, who represents the land, and she gets ritually married to the king, who then becomes consort to the goddess (or the land). From that point onward the land and the king are one. The most famous example is the sacred marriage in the city of Uruk but there are a few in anciet Egypt too. Sorry for the long text!! I hope this is of any help to anyone, and again, great video :)

And it seems logic the other 2 cities are the other 2 wells as you say, the eyeball coincidence that you point out (I would have never make that conection btw, amazing) and this is where Nokron is right? Meaning Nokstella is the one of the fates. It just occured to me, I wonder if the giant skelletons on chairs are to represent the Fates themselves. Cause is around Urðarbrunnr (the well of origin) that the Aesir (the gods) have their cosmic council, and this council is called "the chairs of council". Long shot, I dont know XD Great stuff!! I'd like to piggyback a bit on this last portion about sacred marriage. In alchemy the heiros gamos expresses the union of the sun and the moon as the Red Emperor and the White Empress. These color attributions seem to apply directly to Radagon and Marika. Oh, and the Red Work and the White Work are one and the same, only differentiated in intensity, but ultimately leading to Unity (Gold/Philosopher's Stone/Eternal Life) for the alchemist. @@r.p.193 The Great Work is sometimes represented as three stages of purifying lead to make gold: the Black, the White, and the Red. The Black Work is related to death and mortification, the White Work represents a resurrection into a perfected body, and the Red Work is something like a baptism of fire that fuses perfected spirit to that body. I think anyway... this stuff is really confusing and its difficult to tease out the exact meanings. More generally speaking, Red and White are used as a duality in the same way sun/moon, male/female, light/dark, gold/silver and others are used in hermeticism and alchemy. If you'd like to see some of this imagery contextualized and in one place, I highly recommend looking through the Alchemical Tarot deck by Robert M. Place. The deck collects a ton of traditional imagery in one place. Cheers!

I think the undulating blade on the Glintstone Kris is in direct reference to the fingerslayer blade. Because while it was technically a stalemate, the academy’s connection to the eternal cities meant they possessed to the ability to kill outer gods, and us such was a message to Marika “never attempt this again” as they could be willing to destroy the greater will if they were attacked again.

Quelagg is like the substitute teacher who is teaching a class while learning about it at the same time and if you're lucky she'll break out the projector and go like, "Hey kids, check this shit out!" For the fire giants, eyes and Norse I also wanna point out that Odin gained wisdom by sacrificing himself to himself. Something the giants need to do in order to awaken the face of their god or the wisdom Odin had. Maybe this about wisdom? Just kind of had me thinking had Radagon tried to do to Marika what the fire giants god did to them, embedding himself (stitching) himself into her flesh the same way. Especially since flesh seems to be the best container of faith in the world of Elden Ring. Also, the towers may only keep the seals in a sort of alliance with each other naturally creating a current unless they are embedded in a person and all the gripes that come with it--turning a scarseal into a soreseal since the current is now the person. Like, the entire is the person like how Ymir was before he became the world. Am I rambling? Lol

I think I followed most of that. It’s interesting to point out Radagon destroyed the Academy from the inside but it’s true. You just don’t really think of that since Turtle Pope holds the Rennagon ship in high regard. The Erdtree hating life not dying or false life makes me think of Legacy of Kain and the Great Wheel. The Elder God there devoured those that died and vampires in that series didn’t die of old age and stuff. Erdtree seems similar, which makes me think it’s a parasite feeding on death as well. Pretty literally if you look at the tomb boss rooms. With that in mind though, Marika must’ve been hated for separating out the rune of death and stopping normal death. Lastly the two crystal heads, I think their minds went due to the crystals replacing their brains. Must be similar to Selene turning into that thing. Maybe too much discovery changes your body. I do wonder why the one went to the volcano though. Is he why a fallingstar beast landed there?

Why would Erdtree be parasite when it literally invests energy to heal people and ONLY miracles of Erdtree are specialized in healing and curing people? No other branch of magic has any interest in healing. All the while Glintstone takes over people's bodies until they become living stone, Formless Mother makes you burst out in grotesque boils, Rot God rots you alive, Deathbird want to burn your soul in kiln and absorb you into their black wings... Every other Outer God is more or less parasitic other than Greater Will and Erdtree. After all, Erdtree is tool of rebirth, as every absorbed body is meant to be rebirthed as an infant once more from the boughs. Goldmask also seems not to think Erdtree is parasitic.

Couldn't the Greater Will have also been pissed off at the Nox for trying to create a god of silver instead of the golden gods the Will seems to prefer? Just speculating, but your theory that the Nox killed Placidusax's god does seem to make some sense too. I hadn't put together that the finger slayer blade is literally just a sacred sword. (also I'm definitely gonna edit this as i watch with more thoughts) Okay holy shit, I did not expect to get a military tactical analysis of the war in Liurnia, but go the fuck off, I'm here for it and OH MY GOD RADAGON LEARNED HOW TO SEAL THE ERDTREE FROM RAYA LUCARIA HOLY SHIT HOW DID I NOT NOTICE THAT, THAT'S SO FUCKING COOL WHAT THE FUCK. Wow, so Radagon was definitely a piece of shit to Rennala, no wonder she was so upset. As for why Azur and Lusat were devastated by the primeval current, and this is wild speculation, but I think it has to do with entropy. Astrology and glintstone sorcery was founded on the principle that one's fate is bound up in the motion of the stars. What is necessary for motion? the passage of time. And what happens to a star over time? Well, it eventually dies. I think what Azur and Lusat witnessed was the death of stars. The realization that if it were true that fate was bound in the stars, the only thing one can divine is the certainty of doom. An entire discipline and philosophy, thousands of years in the making, and there they stand, witnessing the truth: stars die. And when they die, there is nothing left of them but a dim glimmer that eventually collapses into a black hole where time is brought to a merciless halt. The entire lineage of astrology holds that fate is bound up in the motion of stars. Azur and Lusat's discovery is that the motion of stars ends with them turning into time-halting singularities that drown out all light and swallow everything around them. It's the end of all things; it's the heat death of the universe. The entire basis for sorcery, the primeval current, the academy, everything. It's own logic is counterintuitive to itself because of entropy. I have no idea where crystals fit in though. Not a fucking clue about that. Absolute fucking banger of a video. You and Hazel did a fantastic job putting that board together and your presentation is easy to follow and funny to boot!

Your ability to summarize all this, in detail, so effectively is genuinely impressive & I'm jealous! Thank you & Hazel! Following is edited: The 6 divine towers, the 6 stars of the Cuckoo crest, the 6 [edit: 8]] points around the Fire Giants' massive eye; perhaps all symbolize the same thing. 6 outer gods (2 having died), surrounded by the primeval current, circle the world of Elden Ring? Together, they are known as the Greater Will? Certainly shows how power/authority is being concentrated over time. The Greater Will isn't the Outer God of Order, as some folks think, but of everything. Of all. This idea is shown in Ratagan & Merica; both are separate but, as they eventually physically merge into one being via the Shattered Elden Ring, this effects both future & past. Even before meeting they were one & the same, separate but inseparable. They are one but not due to their metaphysical merging. This metaphysical quantum entanglement also effects the Greater Will, all of its' divisions, & reflected in-game with the fundamental laws of Regression & Causality. Both laws represent the core motif & themes in Elden Ring. The Fire Giant eye has 8 points around a central 1, but later Era have just 6, which seems to represent the Law of Regression slowly merging everything into one again. The Perfect Order Ending sees the player flip this physical merging of all things (represented in the Chaos Ending) into a metaphysical merging of all things, where folks accept each other & work together. How's my thinking? Regardless, seems the Nox are hated for "playing god", killing a divine emissary, & their creations are scorned because of it.

I think the Greater Will is just one Outer God, though it does seem to have a special role (being the one that brought about distinction and existence out of the primordial chaos). There being 6 Outer Gods might actually work. There’s 5 known entities that are either implicitly or explicitly Outer Gods in the game: 1. Greater Will 2. Frenzied Flame 3. God of Rot 4. Death God 5. Formless Mother If there are 6 of them One thing I find interesting is the possible dichotomies between them, since there’s an even number. Maybe each has its own counterpart the way the Frenzied Flame and Greater Will are opposites? The Formless Mother seems to be associated with “overflowing life” such as the Crucible mutations and cancerous growths and Mohg is trying to turn Miquella (whose thing is Abundance) into its intermediary deity. It could be the opposite of either the God of Rot (who embodies the decay of all things, especially living things) or the Death God (life and death, no brainer).

@@soarel325 If Hyetta is to be believed, & I think she should be, then her 11th hour reveal about the Greater Will is of vital importance. "All that there is came from the One Great. Then came fractures, and births, and souls. But the Greater Will made a mistake. Torment, despair, affliction... every sin, every curse. Every one, born of the mistake. And so, what was borrowed must be returned. Melt it all away, with the yellow chaos flame. Until all is One again." Note that she explained the Greater Will itself fractured to create everything? This is based on real-world spiritual & theistic beliefs. Abrahamic Covenants, Buddhism, & Indian Theology all practice the belief that everything which exists was made by a Creation God taking itself apart. So, too, is this the basis for the Elder Scrolls series that quite famously inspired Elden Ring. Regardless, the Frenzied Flame is just a aspect of the Greater Will that wants to re-unify all of its' divided aspects (which we see it attempt in that specific Ending). Taking this into account reveals that the Greater Will isn't 1 entity but a gestalt of all things that exist. I speculate that the Primeval Current is like the Greater Wills' blood, which circles & flows through everything to keep it all alive. The is why the 6 Pointed Crest is so important in Elden Ring; it symbolizes the formless Greater Will via 6 divisions.

Eyes seem to be a huge component of mystical vision or knowledge throughout the game not only with the soreseals and scarseals, but with the Shabriri Grapes, Gideon's whole iconography, whatever is going on with the Fire Giant's middle eye. Lucarians all cover their eyes with heavy masks and seem to be able to channel their magic through the glintstone on their crowns. The Haima Glintstone Crown goes even further with this idea by even covering the masks' eyes with a blindfold, and they are the only ones allowed outside of the academy during it's lockdown. One thing is clear however: glintstone eventually eats away and replaces your mind. The best example is Azur becoming consumed by green glintstone, but Lusat goes above and beyond by using a crown made seemingly out of the same eye that Astel uses, and it replaces his skull and brain just like Astels. If I were the Golden Order I'd want to lock him up too! Now this is just a personal theory, but I think those blue eyes have something to do with the dark moon. This is why in Ranni's ending her moon looks like a giant version of one of those eyes. Love these videos! Have a great day

I really like Sellen, but Lusat's situation might not be as simple as it implied. It can be that Lusat is hiding in his childhood town on his own volition, rather than being imprisoned. Guarded by his loyal acolytes, Lusat might be afraid he will get harvested and hunted into a graven mass as so many others. So he is hiding from Sellen, perhaps? Sellen also gives dead give away by saying she "acquired" the key from a Sellian. Perhaps she killed that particular Sellian? As I said, I really like Sellen's character, so I hope this is not the case. Sellian Sorcerers are the ones that made a living by capturing other sorcerers after all, as Ambush Shard implies. And we find it in Sellen's cell from a dead corpse.

This is the first instance of someone pointing out that Fingerslaying Blade is made out of remains of the previous god. It absolutely makes sense and frames the betrayal of Nox. I previously simply thought the crime was merely cutting Five Fingers into two and three, but this makes more sense. Hopefully, we someday learn the identity of this unfortunate god, their relation to Marika, and what it took to kill them. It is also curious that Nox are Numen, yet Greater Will chose Marika to be its next representative god regardless. Unless Marika was at odds with her Numen side of the family.

Cuckoo birds represent unrequited love, the return of summer, the longing of the spirits of the dead to return to their loved ones and a general symbol for tragic events in Japan. The cuckoos watching over the primeval current mimic Azur and Lusat staring into a "cluster of stars" and seeing the death of the those stars. For people obsessed with watching the motion of the stars. For people who believe that there is great significance in that motion. The death of all stars would be an incomparable tragedy. I'm still not certain what the relationship is between Radagon and Marika. The issue is that we're presented with more than one point of view when we're given information. So when someone in Liurnia talks about Radagon, it's from the perspective that R & M are two different people. We even have Marika referring to Radagon as her other half. This creates a perception that Radagon was in some capacity separate form Marika at some point in the past. I can't help but feel like the whole Rennala rebirthing thing played a key roll in the creation of Radagon though, at least corporeally. But it also seems like Radagon might have been an aspect or personality of Marika before there was a Radagon body. Much like how Gwyn had his fingers in several pies that we only later learned were connected in Dark Souls. I suspect Marika is in the same boat. Which is why I'm coming around on the idea that Marika is also Melina and possibly even the Gloam Eyed Queen. Elden Ring is turning into an Eddie Murphy movie.

Here's something I always thought was weird. Why's our starting class for a sorcery build an astrologer, not a Carian? At what point did Marika have the power over the astrologers to banish them? And that had to happen before Godfrey's banishment, since he's the first Tarnished. Also interesting thing to note, Morgott uses 4 summoned weapons: the Erdsteel Dagger, the Treespear, the Giant Crusher, and the Carian Knight Sword. Why the Carian Knight Sword?
@alanbryant1477
@alanbryant1477 Жыл бұрын
Could be wrong on this but Morgott's holy sword looks moreso like the Lordsworn SS to me. It'd make more sense from a lore perspective too, as Morgott fought with his armies, and may be using projections of their weapons? Just my personal theory

If youre running with Norse, id go further and ask would you also draw a correlation between Jörmungandr and the corpse of the Godwyn? As Godwyn not only shows a Serpentine form, but also is creating a blight in the roots of the Erdtree as Jörmungandr is to Yggdrasil. From what i'm aware there is an amalgam of Norse, Celtic and a heavy amount of Welsh folklore, characters and names used throughout, it might be one of the best developed or based on existing lore that Fromsoft have done. I wouldn't be surprised if the smallest of details on someone's robes wasn't directly influenced by some obscure medieval text or another.

dude been binging your videos, they are so good, love the mind map? style. makes me feel like im in a briefing or something lol. Like every video seems to have unique ideas that i haven't heard before. Never thought that of the Liurnia wars prolly coinciding with or i guess slightly predating the war with the fire giants. I know it has nothing to do with this video but im stuck on the briars of sin/ thorns / abhorrent sorcery/ red glintstone and the dead fire giants - like the abhorrent sorceries seem like they were used and then discarded by society and they need faith to cast so... Also the casting sigil looks like a double helix, which seems to be have removed from the elden ring at somepoint, based on the older elden ring in farum, maybe when Marika seals destined death. Sorry to ramble but would love any insight into this in a future vid - sorry if its in one i havent watched yet.
