Today I’m going to show you how to make Quesitos (Puerto Rican Cheese Turnovers). This recipe is authentic from Puerto Rico. If you visit the island you can find the quesitos in most bakeries. It is an ideal pastry dessert to enjoy at any time of the day. The mix of the crystallized top layer and the cream cheese mixture inside will create a unique flavor that will transport you to Puerto Rico. The quesitos are perfect to have with a good cup of coffee in the morning. Try it at home and pleased your family and friends with this recipe. They will love it!
The ingredients are:
1 Sheet of Puff Pastry
8oz of Cream Cheese
1 tsp of Vanilla Extract
2 tbsps of Sugar
Egg wash (1 egg + 1 tbsp of water)
Light Corn Syrup or Honey
More sugar (as needed)
Preparation:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. In a small bowl add the cream cheese, vanilla extract, and sugar. Mix well and set aside.
3. Lightly dust the work surface with flour so the puff pastry doesn’t stick. Unfold the sheet of puff pastry and use a rolling pin or a bottle to stretch it out. Cut the sheet into 9 squares
4. In a small bowl make the egg wash beating one egg and the tbsp of water and set aside.
5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Take one square of puff pastry and scoop 2 tsps of the cream cheese mixture in the middle. Brush a thin layer of egg wash on two sides of the square. Grab the sides and stretch them out. Fold one over the other, make sure you seal the end well to avoid the quesitos from opening when baking.
6. Another way to fold the quesito is to brush all the sides with egg wash and fold it like a burrito.
7. Pierce with a fork the top of the sealed quesitos so it can release the steam inside and doesn’t open in the oven. Brush the tops and sides of each quesito with a layer of egg wash. Sprinkle sugar on top.
8. Bake at 350°F for about 15 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. As soon as you take the quesitos out of the oven brush the top with light corn syrup or honey.
9. Serve immediately.

En el video de hoy te mostraré cómo hacer unos quesitos. Esta receta es auténtica de Puerto Rico. Si visitas la isla podrás encontrar los quesitos en la mayoría de las panaderías. Es un postre de pastelería ideal para disfrutar en cualquier momento. La mezcla de la capa superior cristalizada gracias al azúcar y al sirope y el queso crema crean un sabor único que te transportará a Puerto Rico. Los quesitos son perfectos para acompañar con una buena taza de café en la mañana. Prepara esta receta en casa y complace a toda tu familia y amigos. ¡Les encantará!
Los ingredientes son:
1 lámina de masa de hojaldre
8oz de queso crema
1 cdta. de extracto de vainilla
2 cdas. de azúcar blanca
Egg wash (Huevo batido) 1 huevo + 1 cda. de agua
Sirope de maíz o miel
Mas azúcar (según sea necesario)
Preparación:
1. Precalienta el horno a 350°F.
2. En un pequeño envase agrega el queso crema, el extracto de vainilla y la azúcar. Mezcla bien y reserva.
3. Espolvorea la superficie de trabajo con un poco de harina para que el hojaldre no se pegue. Utiliza un rodillo o una botella para estirar el hojaldre un poco. Corta la lámina de hojaldre en 9 cuadrados
4. En un envase pequeño prepara el huevo batido, batiendo un huevo junto con la cucharada de agua.
5. Cubre una bandeja con papel de hornear. Coge un cuadrado de hojaldre y toma 2 cdtas. de la mezcla del queso crema y colócalas en el centro de la masa. Unta un poco del huevo batido en dos lados del cuadrado. Agarra los lados y estíralos. Luego, dobla uno sobre el otro, asegúrate de sellar bien la esquina para evitar que el quesito se abra en el horno.
6. Otra forma de doblar el quesito es untar huevo batido en todos los lados del cuadrado de hojaldre y doblarlo como un burrito.
7. Perfora con un tenedor la parte superior de los quesitos sellados para que se libere el vapor y no se abra. Cubre la parte superior y los lados de cada quesito con un poco de huevo batido. Luego, espolvorea azúcar blanca por encima de los quesitos.
8. Hornea a 350°F durante unos 15 a 25 minutos o hasta que estén dorados. Tan pronto saques los quesitos del horno, úntale sirope de maíz o miel por encima.
9. Sirve de inmediato.
