You can leave it on, I tend to have it on manual. Most detectors that are set to tracking will track momentarily to the strongest signal. They take a few moments to reset so as a result you could miss smaller faint targets like hammered coins. So by manually ground balancing your machine you will avoid this. If you are detecting in ground that has varying soil conditions then tracking will be a better option, but if your ground conditions are consistent and stable then manual will be a better option.

@@DrewVerdin with the machine turned off, press and hold the power button until you see the display reset. That should fix your chatter issue, give it a go and let me know how you get on.

It's the way in which you can tune your metal detector to the mineralisation in the ground. By doing this it allows your metal detector to run at peak performance. All ground types have different levels of mineralisation, this affects how you detector performs, so by balancing it to the ground it allows it to run correctly.

It is a function for the design engineers, it allows them to set up and align the pinpoint function. In essence it allows them to use the detector motion free to set up the accuracy of the pinpoint function.
