Quest to the Crown - Episode 2 - The KOH Masterclass

The 2023 King of the Hammers Rookie Program is officially underway! An invitation to registered KOH Rookies (competitors who have never driven a vehicle during KOH) was extended to a 3-day masterclass at Dave Cole's ranch in Johnson Valley, California. Some of the world's top off-road racers including Jason Scherer, Loren Healy, and Wayne Israelen, attended to share their expertise and personal experiences with the new KOH competitors. Subjects discussed included safety, social media, navigation, shock tuning, and the importance of camaraderie beyond the build of the race car. This program provided rookies with years of knowledge in just a few days, allowing them to gain an invaluable experience. This supplementary content is awesome. Getting to know the racers and see how much the organization cares about everyone involved is amazing and honestly it makes watching the races more enjoyable.

I attended my first Hammers 2022. I was blessed to be in Levi Shirley’s Pit with Matt Thompson (US Army Vet) from 3D Offroad in Colorado Springs and saw what it takes to make this happen. Levi broke his transmission the night before, they swapped it out, he ran the race for maybe 25 miles before it took a crap. Matt Thompson is one of the pioneers that co-drove with Brian Shirley (Luckydog Racing) back when KOH was racing for a case of beer and $100 bucks. Matt will be there again this year with the Shirley family. They treated me (US Army Iraq/ Afghanistan Vet) like their own family. I can not attend this year due to massive debt. But I will make it in the future. Good luck yall. God Speed. Be Safe. Get home to your families at the end of the race. 🥸

this will be my 5th year hitting the lake bed and will be a volunteer this year as well. In the spirit of the Rookie Program - I own Dirtbag Clothing - we do merch for others as well which as this video said is part of of racing now. If you're a driver or team and have questions don't hesitate to ask... to KOH - (Dave Cole) not here to step on toes as I respect what you're doing more than you know, just wanting to assist the drivers and fill in a check box for them IF needed. I just know it can be intimidating to think about merch when trying to survive the racecourse. 20 years ago we started doing custom merch for Bands and radio stations as they were telling us how hard it was for them and if we can assist racers that would be just as AWESOME. That's so cool! I wish I would have had that. I bet these people gain 10 years of knowledge out of hearing the veterans. I know personally Jason and loren and they are impressive in knowledge of racing and car setups beyond what I expected. Very cool deal Dave

Unreal video, gave me that feel good feeling and motivated me even more than I already was to go work on my rig all day. I’m in Australia not the USA so this is only a dream, hopefully one day the boys over here can do something similar for us Aussie wanna be racers as well. No matter what happens I’ll be in Ultra4 Australia series within a couple years but something like this to kick start the knowledge and friends etc would be unreal 👌

My dad's combat fighter town USA squadron he was a Topgun instructor of created all the concave divetts in the wash landscape b4 JV was ever open in the 80s,and launched missiles into those trails to give it It's geography that it is today...using F14s and F8s
