Cades Cove is a wonderful place . My late husband and I often visited there. we blked and walked the loop a number of times.

We saw 13 bears the last time we were in Cades Cove. It was a rainy day, so don't let that discourage you from going. We also have begun a practice of donating $1 for each bear we see -- plus extra! Have fun and enjoy!

@@christyhatton109 We usually go the first thing in the morning, at sunrise. But on this trip, in the rain, it was 7:15 in the evening. Have fun!

Been coming to Great Smokey Mountains for at least 30yrs. It has stolen my heart, First time i went to Cades Cove I fell in love, lol I've been so many times and only seen about 5 Bears thu all the years, and you've seen 5 in on day. We usually go early in the morning also beats alot of traffic 🙃, I'm at work watching your video and after all the years of going there it still excites me watching you guys go thru, Just wishing to be there 😥😥😥 ,Keep doing what you're doing, You Differently found your calling!!!!!!!!!

We had a bear walk right against the car door once. It was Fall and he was full of acorns. Could have cared less cars were stopped. I couldn't even get my camera turned on.

@@QuestCapsule - Hi there! I actually grew up within this area of the Smoky Mountains. My family lived here in the 1800s among the Cherokee Indians! (I am actually part Cherokee myself) So, I moved from here in the mid-1980s and I see this ara has changed quite a bit over the years. I live in Ohio now and married a year ago. My wife wants to visit Gatlingburg and Cades Cove among other places, she wants to see how I grew up in this area. Anyway, we are going the last day of April till the end of the first week of May. I am tinking that the bears should be out of hibernation about this time. I was wondering what month you did this trip. We got us a cabin reserved already and they told us the rate we got it for is the lowest at that time because there is not as much tourists. That is what I am hoping for. Where I grew up there was this bluff I used to hang out at. I took my wife there some years ago (we have been together 20 yers before we married) She loved it. She just never had the luck of seeing a bear at all while I used to walk the hollow at night I had to watch out for them. lol Great video

Just visited Cades Cove a couple of weeks ago and I loved it ! I enjoy being alone and not a fan of crowded places, but everyone there was so polite and I didn't even bother, I saw 6 bears in 2 days, some of them were pretty busy woth lots of people, but I was able to see a couple of them when there was no one around me, I loved the place in general and would definitely recommend it if you like wildlife and cool landscapes

My favorite place in all the world. No place like it. I NEVER go to Gatlinburg without making the trip out to Cades Cove. We have seen black bear, deer, wild turkeys-it’s an amazing place. By the way, sitting in a line waiting to get around the loop has never bothered me. Gives more opportunity to view the wonders of this amazing place.

My wife wanted to see her origins. We went to Cades Cove to find her family names (Oliver and Shields). Those whose children crossed the Newfound Gap to NC. We were there in the 60's before the feds turned the cove into a park. The rest of the story was her 85 year old grandmother who taught in a one room school house. If you want the flavor of Cades Cove watch a movie called "A Walk in the Spring Rain". The movie was after our time, but was filmed while people still lived there.

There is also Roaring Fork Motor loop right in Gatlinburg. Not as long as Cades Cove, but a beautiful drive none the less.

We went around Cade's Cove twice and did not see any sighting of a bear. We heard of a cub sighting. Honestly was very disappointed.

Hi, @QuestCapsule. Love your video style, very calm and informative, as if we have a friend driving us around the park. Thank you! This August, 2024, I'll be in Gatlinburg with family and they've given me a day to myself. I'm going to do the one-hour (I think) drive to Cave Cove and run the 11 mile loop on a Wednesday, when the road is apparently closed off to automobiles each week. Questions please: I'm buying the new-as-of-2023 $5 daily parking pass online, but where exactly would you suggest I park for a big lot and maybe a potty and water? I'll go early in the morning right when the park opens. And second, I think I can make the 11 miles in the heat, but if I need the 8 mile bail-out, is that well marked and do I miss a lot in the three miles I cut out? I will bring my own water as I assume there's no drinking water along the loop, but should I bring bear spray? If I ever got close like the footage you showed of your family's first encounter, I'd better bring a change of underpants, too. LOL Thanks for any advice.

You appear to be in a raised roof Promaster in this video. We have a class b Coachmen Nova that is 9’ 6” to the top of the a/c. I was afraid to try it for fear of the overhead clearance. I couldn’t find any information to let me know whether we could make it. Do you think we would have any overhead clearance issues?

We stay in cabins mostly! Check out Auntie Belhams Cabins or Elk Springs Resort! Very nice cabins!🐻

Been going there every few years or so since the early 90's. There use to be TONS of deer all over the park. Literally saw 100's of them everywhere. Now sadly there are very few deer around. I don't know what happened to all of them. Rangers tell me bears ate them LOL. I have seen a bear eating a deer before, but I really don't think bears have eaten that many in the last 20 years or so. My guess is humans poaching them maybe even some of the rangers. I have seen a few bear there, but they are hard to find. I usually spend a whole day there driving around the loop 4-5 times & getting out a few places walking around, especially at the Visitor center half way point.

@@QuestCapsule Years ago I saw the house of the last remaining person who was allowed to live on the Cades Cove Loop. I got to drive by it several trips over the years. Now I don't remember exactly where his house was. After he died the government destroyed his house, shed & everything he had out there. I really wish they would have kept it & allowed people to visit it like they do the other properties. I was also surprised that some people who die today are still buried in the cemeteries in the Loop.

We noticed the same about the deer, but we do believe the bear have killed them and made them afraid to come out in the pastures much anymore.

@@sondrasmith2691 How could bear have kill 100's of deer over the years? There are few bears, but use to be probable well over a 1,000 deer in the area. I can see bear killing off some of the deer, but that many not likely. Also the bear often time stay away from the roads & look for food higher up in the mountains.

I took a college class offered in the park about 10 yrs ago and park rangers and biologists would come in and teach a class or two. One said that the deer were overbrowsing the area and causing some plants and trees to be reduced to the point of eradication. They said the park regularly hired sharp shooters equipped with night vision and suppressors to reduce the deer numbers.

Which months are best for Bears to see?

Best time to see them is Spring right after they wake up after hibernating or the fall when they are searching for there last bit of food before returning to hibernate.
