I love my Dremel, but they really have a crummy design for the switch. I noticed that it wasn't working properly and only worked intermittently, so I took it apart to see what the problem was.

After heavy usage removing old grout, my 4200 on/off switch would not slide easily. Too much dust got underneath the switch. Thank you for clearly explaining how to disassemble. Blew the dust/dirt out of the inside and it works like new again. Saw what you were saying about the switch. Works ok now, but anticipate the same problem you fixed with yours probably later on. Will know what to do if/when it happens. Thanks again!

Thanks to you I have a working 4200 again! This is the second Dremel I had stopped working out of the blue. The first one is gathering dust somewhere. After watching your video I was able to revive them both!!

The heat shrink wasn't necessary. With the heat gun, heat the area where you placed the heat shrink tube. Rebend the areas in a downward position and use cold water to cool off. Reassemble it and works like a charm!

Thanks for this insight. I used a hair dryer for 2-3 minutes and used a small pliers to bend +Cold water. Works like a charm.

Might be questionable but it saved my Dremel from a short trip to the dump. Now runs better than new. Thanks, mate, from across the pond.

Awesome! My Dremel had exactly the same problem. I'd chucked it in the "to fix later" drawer 4 years ago until i came across this video.

Great idea with the heat shrink tubing! I have had this problem for a few years with the 4200 and usually when I take it apart and put it back together, it ends up working, but it seems to never last and the most recent time, I haven't been able to get it to work again, so the heat shrink tubing should work great! Thanks! EDIT: Turns out it didn't work. My heat shrink tubing ended up being too thick and I couldn't move the switch at all. I ended up using several layers of packing tape and that seems to have done the trick.

I’m having a similar trouble with my 400xpr, it just reached the point where it won’t turn on. I was checking out the brushes and after I put both covers back on it wouldn’t go unless I press down on the cover. I’m not sure how to fix it

Dremel seems to have trouble with the swtiches. I recently bought the brushless 8260. The switch is very flimsy and sinks into the tool when switching. I returned it, got another one, same issue.

I don't know why they don't just use a little speed lever, like you get in the 300 & the Multi-Pro. This works better than a seperate on/off switch IMO. These new switches are badly designed.

Another alternative is to carefully place a small drop of adhesive (epoxy like) on the blue plastic piece where it touches the black switch. Let it dry completely of course.

I would have just heated the blue plastic with your heat gun, & bent it a bit.
