If you have been on the fence about reading The Stormlight Archive, here is a bit of an introduction that will hopefully help you ease into the series better. This is my favorite series of all time and I just want everyone to be able to enjoy it as much as possible! :D

Aw I was planning to read RoW first, then re-read the whole series from the beginning... but joining in this readalong sounds a lot more fun. Hey Michael, I've read "The Way of Kings" 3 years ago and I would gladly join you guys in the discussion. I like how you lay out the foundations before reading the first book in The Stormlight Archives because that's how amazing this book was. The journey was mesmerizing and that iconic Sanderson plot twist in the end. Mind blown! Thank you once again for bringing back the passion of "The Way of Kings". I was on a bad hungover and there were no one else to talk to when I complete it the first time. Can't wait!

This was really helpful! I just started TWOK last night and I think that since I have already finished the Mistborn trilogy a few months ago, going into this epic world feels very familiar (the prologue reminded me so much of Vin's fighting scenes) yet strange and new at the same time. I'm really just so excited to be starting the stormlight archive!! 🌟

I just finished Oathbringer and wow this series is amazing! It has so much stuff that I think going through it again would be great to appreciate all of the small details since I'm going down a google rabbit hole to learn more. Even though they are long, the pacing is good and they're sooooo fascinating!

Thank you for this! I’m 150 pages into Way of Kings and had completely missed the Kholin connection! I’m awful with names so I can struggle with these epic fantasy series, but I’m loving it so far! I’m trying to slow down so I can join in Stormalong 2020 but I’m enjoying it too much 😆

You're welcome! I'm glad this may have helped you! Its ok. In all actuality I don't think I could have stuck to the schedule the whole time myself either, but I like that we are keeping the general pace slower for some who don't read as fast. I'm glad you are enjoying it!!!

Perfect timing for me! I work for a publisher and I’m deep in submissions, but have been wanting to go through my first read of books 2 and 3, having read the first last year. I’ve been looking for a Stormlight expert to help me because I’m lazy.

This is great. I had to have read the first chapter of this book about 5 or 6 times before I finally decided just to set aside 2-3 hours and power through. I would have loved to see this to give me hope!

New sub here. Just wanted to say thank you for this video. I have begun reading again this year and very much enjoyed Sanderson’s Mistborn Era 1 and Era 2. I was so excited to jump into The Way of Kings, but decided to go with the audiobook. I quickly found myself lost and tried to push through. After 5 hours into the audiobook, I realized I was so lost that I did not know what was really going on at all. I was disappointed and put it down. That was two weeks ago. I decided that maybe it’s a book that needs to be physically read so I will be joining in #stormalong2020.

I listened to The Way of Kings on audiobooks last year and really struggled. I may have to pick up a physical copy and annotate like Victoria is doing! That could be fun.

After watching her video I have been considering it myself honestly... I want to do more videos on the books as we go through the readalong and having those sorts of tools could be Suuuuuper useful for researching and referencing :p I can *Definitely* see why it might be rough to jump in straight on this one w/ an audiobook!

I think as far as some of the massive epic series goes, this one is the easiest to follow after you get into it... There is still a lot going on in the beginning

The recommendation from most Cosmere fans is to at least try to read it before Words of Radiance for all of the Cosmere Easter eggs. I can say that I personally read it after all the Stormlight books and still thoroughly enjoyed both so it’s up to you! Warbreaker is a lot different with a different vibe but imo still great!!

Loved mistborn era one..... The the second book wasn't my favorite of the series..... So far (first 15- 20%) The Way Of Kings has so much exposition, info dumping that it's pretty hard to get into. I loved the way Wheel Of Time started.... There's very little actually happening beside into dump world building so far.... This is a very cold open.

There are a lot of easter eggs of things if you read all of his Cosmere books in publication order (I have been told), but in reality it definitely *isn't* necessary. I have read some more of the Cosmere books since finishing Stormlight, but I fell in love and became a massive fan of this series before I read any of those and it didn't affect my enjoyment at all!

So far not in love with the story world (I've had enough of these spren) but the characters are likeable and engaging, making the story worth it.

@@QuestLegacy No! I had to sell it for quick cash. It was also giving me back pain from carrying it around. (Before Plague, I rarely read at home.) I just wish this wasn't such a long series. I'm not sure I want to invest the $ for the entire thing. I don't know that it's a series I'd read over & over, like HP. And it would send me into convulsions to own a couple, read a couple from the library, have some in paper & others on Kindle. IT'S ALL OR NOTHING FOR ME, PEOPLE!

I'm sorry but "hey, it gets better after 400 pages" does not inspire me at all to read that thing. If it's so poorly structured and author never managed to set the pacing right and world is just thrown at you via small unrelated pieces then the book is shit. End of discussion.
