This video documents a traverse from Beaverhouse Lake to Prairie Portage. I underestimated the amount of time it would take to get into Sturgeon, so ended up with really only two layover days in as many weeks, so not as much fishing as I would like.
The following lakes are included: Beaverhouse, Quetico, Oriana, Jessee, Elizabeth, Halliday, Sturgeon, Russell, Chatterton, Keats, Kawnipi, Agnes, Meadows, Sunday, Burke, Basswood. Layover fishing day occurred on Kawnipi, while camped on a 5-star campsite in McKenzie Bay, and I've highlighted the walleye holes that were most productive.
This is a compilation of the following videos, which were posted as they were produced:
Part 1 Motorboats, Pickup Trucks, and Canoes. . .
2 Heavenly Cruise on Quetico Lake. . .
3 The Price You Pay for Paradise!
4 Extreme Variations--From Layover Day to Death March!
5 A Beautiful Travel Day. . .
6 Moving Through Moving Waters. . .
7 Can I please Go Fishing Now?
8 Angelic Arch Across Agnes!
Special thanks to the talented and reliable outfitters who make these trips possible!

We were met by mama bear and three cubs two successive years at the campsite you chose on McKenzie Bay. Love that part of the park!

That's crazy about the bears. .. Did they give you any problems? Way back in the day, I used to hang the pack out of reach but over the years that became such a pain that I began to hide my food in two separate packs. That's what I did on that island in McKenzie. I've recently adopted the bear vault method of protecting the food and it is great. The vault provides complete protection and also serves as a good seat and table top.

You sure proved that on your portage into Brent! Big difference is that you had a much heavier canoe than my solo AND you were nursing an injured knee. . . Can't wait to see your next one, once you take the boys up there. I'll bet they are undergoing intense physical training as we speak. . . I'll respond to your text later today after I go over a couple old journals from August walleye fishing up there.

My two favorites, plus Sturgeon. After being shut out for a couple years I'm afraid to go back in the spring after the fires.

Nice video and nice trip! Curious what model Wenonah and is that yoke mount standard. Mine mounts on seat rail . Yours might be a better setup. Right above the riffle leading onto Russell is one amazing walleye fishing spot.

That's a Wenonah Encounter. Same as Prism but wider beam. As for the yoke, I forgot to bring it one year, and had to buy a replacement that attaches to the seat base and I like the replacement much better as it is easier to install, never slips off, and elevates the canoe a little higher off the shoulders so provides some enhanced maneuverability. You are right about that walleye spot leading into Russell. That is one of my favorite parts of the park.

Is the ranger station at the parking lot or on the south side of beaverhouse where the fisher maps show it? Nice video...

Golfish: The ranger station is not near the parking lot--it's as shown on the map. There's also an (abandoned) fire tower in the vicinity, which I've read about but have never climbed. The other Quetico fire tower that I know of is the one on Kashipiwi (south part of lake opposite Yum Yum portage) which I've climbed many times. What a view from up there! So what are your plans for this spring . . . I plan to go in again on LaCroix, and this time spend more time on Crooked, just to the east of Iron. I would also love to hear about your spots on Iron Lake, although I usually push through there in the spring because of the crowds. In the fall though, it's nice and lonely and I've found the fishing to be productive even during the slower walleye period of autumn. And rest assured, I'll be taking a kayak paddle along, after you convinced me. My only worry is that I'll get bursitis in my elbows, which I used to experience when lifting weights. Thanks for your feedback and valuable information.

I was just thinking about you guys. I have to go to the footage and find your segment to get your address. I plan on starting the edit very soon, hopefully next week.. Your fish story is gonna be one of the best parts of the story. Oh how I wish I was there to film that monster!

Why so many different fishing poles?
@markpotaczek
@markpotaczek 3 жыл бұрын
My wife asks me that all the time. For one, I tend to break rods, so usually I need a spare. I normally take two bait casting and two spinning rods, the former for trolling and throwing bigger lures with braided line and the latter for jigging and throwing light lures. Thanks for watching and hope you get up there this year!
