A great sketchbook idea for beginners or anyone trying to get started sketching. I'm using Caran d'Ache Neocolor II water soluble wax pastels, and Stabilo Woodys to draw fast sketches from reference pictures. Sketch along with me as I complete 2 minute realtime drawings of 4 different pictures of breakfast food.
I had a lot of fun with this and I hope you enjoy watching the full process.

You did great on all four but if I have to pick a favorite it’s the breakfast sandwich. My husband votes for the coffee pot one. But I will say this is my favorite of these videos so far, you did a fantastic job and I’m very impressed how you take it from the 2 minute sketch to finishing up at the end. ❤

I love these!!! I think you have a particular talent for bread and should contact a bakery to illustrate their menu 😄I can't choose between the coffee and the croissant or the breakfast sandwich but they're both awesome! I only have 10 neocolor II's and not much talent so mine ended up looking like rainbow colored disasters. BUT they look like disastrous food (my friend could at least tell what i was trying for) so I'll take that win.

With perfectionism, it is SUPER DIFFICULT to loosen up, just let go of symmetry and precision... 😔🎨🥀🌪 Also, when I have a time limit, it is more difficult to concentrate... It just stresses me out.

I totally get that. It can be really hard to let go. That’s why the 2 minutes is so helpful for me personally. It forces my internal perfectionist to stop and move on. I wonder if the stressful feeling would go away if you tried to sketch the same picture multiple times in a row. Then you could see a progression and feel a want to start the next sketch, instead of stressing over the one outcome. Just a random idea. 😅 It might be worth a try. Just know that you’re doing a good job either way! ❤️😊👍

@colleend80 I wonder if the perfectionist voice might stop with a less formed warmup. Also, I find there’s a gift in noticing this kind of frustration in an activity like this. When I work through the frustration on the page I’m able to transfer it to my life.

Luckily I was munching on some crackers when I clicked on this video so I didn't have to go out at silly o'clock in the morning to find bacon 😂😂 I was looking for an easily portable art supply to take with me when I go to Croatia in 2wks and after seeing one of your warm up videos I considered trying some of the water soluble mediums like Neocolors/Gelatos/Stabilo water soluble crayons etc. I was unsure because I've never gotten along with watercolour pencils. I find that even when I layer really lightly (I love using layers in coloured pencils so have taught myself, over time, to work *very* lightly) I still get streaks and texture that are visible through the wash when I add water, but these look a lot smoother and more easily blended. It did however, end up being a moot point anyway because I remembered that I actually have 2 sets of the Viviva colorsheets and they actually fit into my large pencil case along with my mini sketchbook or two (a 9x14cm watercolour paper and/or a Talens Art 12cm x 12cm mixed media one), a few paintbrushes, a set of matte graphite pencils, blender stumps, fineliners and a white gel pen, a small posca pen in black and white, a sharpener and eraser, a handful of coloured pencils, super small bulldog clips, washi tape and a tiny pair of scissors 😂 All I need to take that won't fit is a cheap mixing palette and a Faber-Castell silicone water cup that accordion's flat when not in use and then I'm good to go. 😊

Sounds like a really good kit! I hope you have a great time in Croatia! If you ever get the chance to try Neocolor IIs, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! They are very layer friendly. As long as you let the layers dry in between. They’re easy to thin down or make thick and opaque. I’m completely obsessed with them! I’ve also gotten a lot better at using a water brush pen instead of a cup of water with a brush. At first the water brush was weird, but once I figured out how to get the right amount of water when I needed it, it’s so much easier and portable.
