A great sketchbook idea for beginners or anyone trying to get started sketching. I'm using Caran d'Ache Neocolor II water soluble wax pastels, and Stabilo Woodys to draw fast sketches from reference pictures. Sketch along with me as I complete 2 minute realtime drawings of 6 different pictures of doors.
I had a lot of fun with this and I hope you enjoy watching the full process.

I'm stuck in a loop of wanting to learn how to draw/paint and being frustrated by my own perfectionism and not being able to get the results I want. I haven't been drawing or painting at all lately because of this. Your videos make me want to just draw for the fun of it, the whole reason why I wanted to start it anyway. I love these videos and I hope you keep making them. I'm going to try painting along with this one with my own set of neocolor 2s. Thank you so much for your videos

I totally get that! It’s hard to turn off that inner perfectionist critic. I think having fun with it is key. I know that’s easier said than done, but it has really helped me learn and grow so much more. Make a mess, scribble, and play. I love making these videos for everyone, so I will definitely keep them coming. Thanks for watching and good luck on your art journey! 😊👍

Hi!

Learning to draw is hard. I think the more you can be consistent, the more progress you will see over time. For me, somehow I can paint something a lot easier than draw it. Just have fun with it and try not to be discouraged by crooked lines. You will get there with time. 😊👍

So I have to tell you that your video’s are the reason I just got some gelato’s and I am going to dive into these 2 minute exercises!! Love your video’s!! Keep them coming!! Also, could you maybe at the end slow down and take us through finishing just one of the pictures, so we can see that part of the process?! Thank you!! ❤

That’s so good to hear! I’ve never tried gelato’s. They look fun though! I can try slowing one of the finished drawings down in the next 2 min video. It’s hard to keep the video from being 30 minutes long, but I think I can make it work if I do less pictures. (4-5 instead of 5-6) Thanks for watching and I appreciate the suggestion! 😊👍

@@artbyheather Thank you for inviting us into your creative process! I get it, re: trying to keep the video’s shorter! Maybe a separate video to show the finishing as a part 2, for anyone who wants to see that portion? I think it would help me personally to see how you do the shading & filling in, etc. Anyway, thanks again!

That’s true. There is more layering than you can see with it sped up. I’ll definitely figure out a way to show it for you all.

Just found your channel this morning and tried this. So many mixed feelings about this process….frustration, hilarity, and then just plain fun and satisfaction with the end result.🤗 Can’t wait to try your other 2 minute warmups! Going to get my 8 and 5 year old granddaughters to do these with me! Thank you for making art so much fun!❤

Rosetta is my favorite, like you. Also, you like doors/architecture. Door over cliff, door time-lapse video, all the cabins/treehouses, etc., in your videos tells me that you’re definitely drawn to it. ❤ Thanks for sharing! Love watching these videos. It always seems like you’re having so much fun😊

Thanks for sharing your favorite! You’re right. I do like doors, but it’s a hard subject to draw and paint. I think they make me frustrated, because I can see all the imperfection more clearly. Definitely something I just need to practice more on. Thanks for watching and sharing your feedback! 😊👍

Awww... your least favourite is my favourite! It has an atmosphere that you were able to catch. Maybe a bit more shadowing on the stones and it would have been perfect! Rosetta was nice too and I also liked the garden door a lot, well done! (not kidding you, I was drawing doors today, didn't give myself a time limit though)

I can't wait to have a go at these. I would love to see a real time video of you 'finishing' one of these quick sketches. How much longer do you take to finish them? Thanks for sharing.
@artbyheather
@artbyheather 3 ай бұрын
The time to finish them varies because I have to let them dry before continuing to layer on top. Maybe 30 minutes or more each plus waiting for them to dry in between. In the next 2 minute sketch video, I will show a more realtime view of one. I’m sure it would be helpful for everyone to see. Thanks for your feedback! I hope you enjoy trying it! 😊👍

Your doors turned out so whimsical! Have you done a video doing contour drawings or blind contour? It really teaches you to keep your eyes mostly on your subject and not on your paper. It feel so unnatural at first, but I've been practicing looking at the subject more and just glancing at the paper. It's cool. I love learning and drawing along with you. I'm putting finishing touches on the flowers from your flower video. Next is the birds, then after them, I'll do these doors. ❤😊

I have done blind contour drawing before, but not in a video. It’s very unnatural for sure! I saw a video a long time ago that taught 0%, 100%, and 50% drawing exercise. So you draw the same thing 3 times. First from memory only (0%), then from only looking at the object and not your paper (100%), and last from looking back and forth at the object and your paper (50%). It was pretty interesting to see the differences of all three. Maybe it’s something you could try also. I wish I remembered who made that video.. it was probably 3 years ago when I watched it. 😅 Glad you’re enjoying my videos! Thanks for watching! 😊👍

Just watched your video for the first time . I enjoyed them but wasn’t clear what T materials you were using. We’re they wax crayons . What texture were the pencils Watercolour. If not what was the paint you added later....... curious ..?..
@artbyheather
@artbyheather 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! They are water soluble wax pastels. They are called Caran D’ache Neocolor II. You use them like a crayon and then add water to turn the marks into paint. Similar to watercolor, but different. I hope that helps. 😊👍
