thank you so much for explaining the different between conditioning Fimo and Sculpey - i think a lot of people have been using Vaseline with Fimo, which just makes it sticky and weird. This is one of the most useful clay tips I've ever seen on KZfaq! Thank you! I have been using liquid Fimo to condition both types - is that ok?

We only have FIMO and have been using the water method for months... It's great! Not only that, if you add more water it will turn into cupcake icing. Not as much need for TLS or deko gel anymore! ^---^

I'm so happy I didn't throw away my clay blocks, thank you for this. Family put my clay box in the direct sun for TWO *WEEKS* an then lost it in the mounds of stuff in the trailers as we were moving at the time. So I finally got my box again after nearly three years. 800$ worth of polymer clay, some of the clays are practically unavailable now.

I love ur tutorials. I am still new to polymer clay. I am a jewelry designer & most of my work will be focused on beads w/some charms in time. I am confused about something. This is 2nd time I have heard you mention that clay can be too soft to work with. Guessing you also mean it's unusable after that? I have seen several tuts recently where ppl are taking oil based clays that are too soft & "leaching" excess softness by pressing between sheets of paper. Have u tried? Keep up the great job!

Of course you can use oil to soften Fimo, too, it works perfectly fine. It's a myth that Fimo is "waterbased".

Whats the longest time you kept clay without using it ? is there such thing as polymer clay being unusable cuz of years without using it? so far i had polymer clay sit in my craft box for let's say 8 to 10 months now, and i worked with only 3-4 types. FIMO, Sculpey Premo, sculpey III, super sculpey original, cosclay. The worst polymer clay in terms of crumbly was is FIMO Professional that clays Hard, and crumbly, hard to Nead also the soft, after a while will crumble. Found Sculpey Premo holds it value but to make super tiny details with nah needs to be mixed with ??? well what would you suggest? for creating small figures example, Yoda, ironman, War Tanks. P.S. whao water for FIMO ? The first time i saw and hear this, how long would you have work time B4 starts cracking again ? so FIMO is old oil-based?
@SaphirazlilJewels

It might work if you add water if it is an air-dry clay its usually water based.

I'd like to know how to store fimo after this technique..Do I have to use it right after i've soften it or will it stay soft for several days?Also,I was about to throw my hard clays away but thank's to you,I didn't!I tried it and I got sad about all the clays I've already thrown away :/
@SaphirazlilJewels
@SaphirazlilJewels 10 жыл бұрын
All polymer clay should be stored away from heat and sunlight. Fimo needs to be conditioned before use or else it'd be impossible to use, sadly it can't be only conditioned once and stay malleable for a while. To have that consistency would make it impossible to sculpt.

how do you use the oil??
@FoFiTheGamer
@FoFiTheGamer 8 жыл бұрын
just apply some oil on the crumbled clay or use Vaseline
@williambennett26
@williambennett26 3 жыл бұрын
Ok Vaseline works great but the clay needs be reduced to as near a powder as you can get. I did this by putting the hard clay into a covering of three plastic bags then placing it on a hard surface and belting the bejeesus out of it with a lump hammer. It took seconds and when I added just a smidge of Vaseline it kneaded to workable clay in no time. Alternatively you can crush it in a vice or bag it and drive the car over it repeatedly. No knead to waste time working it with your hands.

Companies for polymer clay keep their product ingredients under wraps but if it is specifically for polymer clay products then it should be fine :) substitutes however need to be strict kind of like the tutorial in this video just to make sure nothing goes wrong :)
