Quick n' Handheld: Modifying my Hercules T7 for better backspin

This video shows a bit more info on how you can use 2 Flange Rigid Shaft Coupling parts to modify your Hercules DJControl Inpulse T7 to get better backspin
Parts used:
- 2 Flange Rigid Shaft Coupling 7mm: www.ebay.com/itm/155848986689
- Super glue
Tools used:
- Power drill
- 7mm drill
- 7.5mm drill
- Water Pump Plier
To adjust the height for the even crazier backspin, you can remove the slip mat, and use half of it as a temporary go-between when bolting the modified vinyl on. That should give you about a mm clearance when you pull the slip mat away, which is more than enough for really long backspins - but also less control for general use

All you need is butter rugs and a plastic sheet under and mine backspins perfectly. Don’t use those slip mats that come with it.

Thanks for the in depth video . What's really going on here? Is the coupling engaging the pins on the spindle so the vinyl doesn't have to? My resistance seems to be from the record hold and the spindle so it makes sense i that and be looser. Did you widen out the hole in the record at all? Does it need to be permanently affixed to the record? I'd like to try 3d printing something for this so a little lighter but want to understand better. If I find a 3d print that works I'll share the shapefile. Thanks again!

I did this mod, but when it comes to scratching, the weight of the coupling slows the motor when the vinyl stops and proceeds to move in the normal direction. So you get the backspins, but scratching and releasing is not operating properly for me..

I agree - for the me the solution was to cut down a pair of Butter Rugs to 7" and replace the stock Hercules slipmats. This helped a lot. I also used heavier 7" records - this also improved the situation. Its perfect to cut on now and the backspin is pretty good.

Nailed it. A much better solution than buying & drilling out those things. You can also add a dab of armor all or pledge to the platter surface for extra slippage.
