I have now owned the shelford channel half a year now - and i gotta say, this thing is AMAZING! It got that open 1073 kind of sound but with a different kind of texture at the same time. I cant describe how much i love this thing!🥰

This video is right on time. I've had my Shelford Channel for almost one year and didn't know. 1. Using the -6 DB input with my Apollo Twin X for my condenser microphone. 2. Turn off your monitors before powering on your Studio Monitors. Definitely getting another power strip with a power switch for my monitors to keep by my foot. 3. The compression trick for low frequencies. My voice is deep with some low frequencies.

It’s a fabulously solid piece of gear. Keep in mind that you can use it as a POST processor and get fantastic results. If you are using an Antelope interface use the DB25 line inputs. Additionally make it a point to set your output and input trims with a tone generator from your DAW to get the ideal levels to take advantage of all the features of the Shelford Channels. I calibrated all of my outboard gear this way and it made all the difference in what I get out of that pricy gear. Had it not been for the man speaking on this video I never would have figured this out.

Thanks a lot for the introduction! Would you also recommend this channel strip for usage in a more pop/clean sound aesthetic?
@RupertNeveDesigns
@RupertNeveDesigns 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, one of the biggest advantages of the shelford channel over the vintage designs is that with Silk out it is exceptionally low harmonic distortion, Better than 0.002% at 1Khz with no upper order distortion. But also, the silk is not fuzz distortion, it is subtle 2nd and 3rd order harmonic content which sounds warm and musical rather than "distorted", so much "clean" pop music would still likely benefit from Silk

@Rupert Neve Team, I was thinking to get a Portico 2 MBP for mix bus processor and at the same time for vocals while tracking. I have not found anyone talking about how is it for tracking vocals. What do you say ? Would love to see a video on that before purchase, if you can. Also without silk enabled, is the compression for mix bus is clean and transparent or also have the vibe and punch e.g SSL-G Bus/ API 2500 compressor ? Please make a new video for Portico MBP-2's compression quality on various sources. Official videos adds the confidence and inspiration. I am really interested to purchase this unit. Thanks!

Can you please make a Shelford channel strip with 5211 preamp ? I want a flat and clean preamp without any input transformers so as to capture the truest sound of a microphone. Is it possible for a custom order for single piece ?
@RupertNeveDesigns
@RupertNeveDesigns 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, you can always use a 5211 or any other mic pre into the line input of the shelford channel. The line input is an electronically balanced front end with +26dBU of headroom. It's not possible to do a one off and most people tend to prefer the more vintage front end of the Shelford Channel when given the choice

I understand , he mentioned to use the -6 for Apollo / most interfaces. Does this still apply even if you are fully bypassing the preamps in your Apollo ?

i just read my manual and it's not really clear for me. Analog Line Inputs : Input sensitivity: Switchable ‘+4dBu’ (0dBFS=+18dBu) or ‘-10dBV’ (0dBFS=+6dBu)
@Slainbabyyc
@Slainbabyyc Жыл бұрын
@@flozzy1988 send it +4! at that setting, the interface outputs +18dbu at 0dfs, which is about half of the +24.5dbu voltage that the shelford can tolerate at its line inputs.

I’ve been using a Pyle power conditioner for my on off for 3 years now on two Shelfords, no problem. But...it has a soft ramp for power up so no spiking at power being turned on or off. The thing I like about the Pyle is each device can be powered up as needed, and you have Instant voltage reading with each device powering on or off. This can matter if you are using high draw devices like a VoxBox, MassivePassive, etc. I like to keep the voltage as strongly above 110 as I can.
