This quick Texas Rig Fishing Tutorial will show you how to catch a bass on a Texas Rig. I talk my way through quickly catching a bass at the lake. Today I am fishing with a Rage Tail Structure Bug. I'm using 12lb test mono on my medium heavy baitcaster. By focusing on fishing the structure and shadows I am able to quickly catch a bass near the boat ramp. I also end up snagged and do my best to get it back, but I lose a lure. Its a great rig, but not 100% snag proof. If its hot out and you can't get a bite, maybe try a Texas rig around cover and shadows.

2 things: 1) I was thinking at the beginning that I wanted to know your approach to your proximity to the water when you start casting - so thanks for addressing that. 2) What I like about this channel is you're realistic about things like snags, and then talk through those. The big pros don't do that. So, thanks for talking about those kinds of "realistic" topics. Always great videos!

Hey real quick guys... you see he tried to free up the snag plenty of times before going to breaking it off? That helped too so he had a nice clean breakoff at the hook knot and not a weak part of his line AKA leaving tons of line in the water! Snags are part of the game, it's what you do after that differentiates an angler from a jackass💯

When you're short on time and need to catch a fish, nothing beats a Texas Rig. I'm pretty partial to the Baby Brush Hog myself, but just about anything will get it done. I don't know if you've seen it or not, but Zoom is coming out with a "Mid Size" Brush hog. It's bigger than the baby, but smaller than the original. Thought you might find that interesting.

So weird trick to free snagged hooks when all else has failed: reverse the pole and start wrapping the free line around the handle, like you’re spooling a reel. Keep wrapping until the pressure pops you free or the hook snaps off. Works most of the time, but no guarantees. Sorry if this info is redundant.

I picked up a trick that works about 90% of the time for snags. Attach a 3-4 oz pyramid or bell sinker to a clip or even a paper clip, slide it down the line to the snag and bounce it up and down, give slack, bounce, repeat till it pops it loose. I’ve also found that a lot of times it’s other people’s damn line I’m snagged on.

Tough fishing conditions but nice result. We don't have LM Bass in the UK, their mouths look very boney, tough to hook up?
@JohnGalyon
@JohnGalyon 4 жыл бұрын
Their mouths aren't actually super bony, although they can take a beating and the fish doesn't seem to care. They're just huge in proportion to the rest of the fish. It's not at all rare to catch a largemouth that you can fit your entire fist in their mouth, even though the fish as a whole isn't that big at all. The operculum (that's the gill plate) that Alex hooked through today is very tough tissue, but it is in just about all fish due to the fact that the gills themselves are fairly delicate and need the protection Hook barbs always complicate getting the fish loose, as I'm sure you're all to familiar with.

We have perch in the uk which have very bones mouths making hooking difficult, just wondered if bass were the same, seems not

The slow drag technique you describe (to feel rocks, logs, etc) ..... do you use that same slow drag when it's a grass bottom vs rocky bottom???
@RealisticFishing
@RealisticFishing 4 жыл бұрын
As long as you dont catch the grass.

@@RealisticFishing thanks Alex. My only catch so far with a Texas rig was casting horizontal to a rocky shoreline. But most of my waters are grassy ... so I'm still trying to figure the Texas Rig (and Carolina Rig) out. But I'm gonna! :) Tight lines!!

I'm new to fishing and I'm having so much trouble getting bites while bank fishing in this heat. Should my technique change much from what people commonly do in Spring and Fall when fish move up to shallower water? Or is it just a rough time of year for shallow water fishermen?
@RealisticFishing

Maybe slow down a little bit. But look for cover and shadows

What are your thoughts on spending big vs. going cheap with rods and reels?
@RealisticFishing
@RealisticFishing 4 жыл бұрын
beginners should go cheap
@curtcollins6659
@curtcollins6659 4 жыл бұрын
@@RealisticFishing I agree. I would add that even someone who isn't a beginner doesn't need a $400 rod and a $300 reel. The fish don't care how much money you spent on your combo.
