You know, I've gained a lot of respect for you by watching your videos. At first I thought you were just someone who's hobby was painting, and that you've probably done it for a long time. But as I've learned a bit more, I've come to realize that your little lessons are not just some trivial information that one can pickup by playing with paint.

"You're creating shapes, not applying paint.'' Thanks Dianne for that distinction. Something just clicked for me and I wasn't even the one that asked the question 🙂. I will keep this in mind.

Thank you for this QT, Dianne! I never properly put my brushes thru their paces (you bet I'll be doing these exercises now!!) but was recently reminded of the importance of doing so when I decided to experiment w/ some new mark-making tools on a painting - cold, w/ no warm-up! 😱 I hope you're healing more and more each day! 💗

Thanks! You should experiment using a warm-up versus the no warm-up to see what is different.

I never thought about testing my brushes, I just grab what I think would do the job and end up with a dozen sitting out...If I could do most of the work with one brush that would be a game changer! Great video

I love this channel so much ❤️ Funny but Ayvazovski indeed often started his paintings with a broom, and Repin often used a cigarette butt deeped in ink for quick sketch notes

Thanks so much!! I do have some favourites when using brushes and do migrate towards those. But it is always good to explore 😊💕. I’m such an amateur as I have no idea what half of my brushes are called, lol 😝 they just work for me.
@IntheStudioArtInstruction

It doesn't matter what your brushes are called. What matters is that you find out what they will do. That's when they become useful beyond applying paint.

I haven't really given it much thought until now, but for about the last year, I have ONLY used a no.2 filbert. I have three, with each one marked up and colour coded on the handle with electricians tape - one for blacks, one for mid-values and another for lights. I even do my preliminaries with them. I move very abstractly (almost in figure 8s at times) and the filbert allows for that. I find flats and rounds a bit too inflexible. All of this is subconscious, as I say, I seldom think about it. It's just how I operate. I need to find another brand though, a hog filbert will last me (at most) twelve weeks. That said, my movements probably age brushes faster.

This was helpful. I am curious about your pallette. Could that be oil paint all around it that never dries? Question: I have fatigue problems with my shoulders and neck. What is the best "stance/posture to relieve this?

What brushes to use for acrylic paints
@IntheStudioArtInstruction
@IntheStudioArtInstruction Жыл бұрын
Sandra, I don't paint with acrylics, but I do know that hog bristle brushes made for oils don't work well with acrylics. Mostly, the synthetic brushes work best.
