This weeks quick tip I'll show you how to properly adjust and set your Z31 TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). Rough idle, or cutting in and out while on low throttle may be a sign it need adjusting. Another issue that went away when I adjusted mine was the cold start bogging that dipped the RPMs down to 500 till the car warmed up a bit, now thats gone! Thanks for watching

Just used this tip on my 1984 300zx and it fixed my problems! Thank you! Used to take 20 mins to start it when cold. I didn't start it all day yesterday or this morning. Adjusted the TPS before starting and boom first key crank! It warmed up to rev normal in 2 mins and I was on the road! Thanks again!

Good tip. I deleted the idle control as well and was having erratic idle. I adjusted it as your video and now is idling perfect!! Kudos to you👍👍

Thank you for this!!!! I was having real hard start issues after doing the idle control valve delete and adjusting the throttle stop screw. I will adjust my TPS! ... by the way, roughly how far up is your throttle stop screw? It looks like it's only a few millimetres. I might have overdone mine.

Do u by any chance know the wiring colors ? I have a 86 bought as a project the tps connector was cut off I think so to rusty wires. So I bought a pigtail but can’t find any diagrams for the color of the wires n their location .

When you deleted your IACV did you have to do anything with your ECU? Also was there anything tricky to it? Any hoses that have to be rerouted or is it just removing all the ones connect to the IACV I’m preparing to do that delete for the first time and just want to make sure I do it right, sorry I’m new to this kind of stuff ! Thanks

My 85 non turbo lunges on acceleration and almost makes car hop when first moving fron dead stop but as you get to higher rpms smooths out like nothings wrong. Car idles fine and seems to rev ok in neutral. It's a five speed. Any suggestion?

i just bought an 87 z31 and it boggs when i step om the gas. any ideas on what the problem is? new to working on cars and want to learn to do it myself

Can you please, please, PLEASE measure your oil dipstick for me? Top of seal to full line and top of seal to bottom of stick? I bought a z31 and the dipstick was busted and cant find a replacement anywhere. Love the vids btw

would a tps cause limp mode on a 5 speed 85 NA Z31? I changed my maf but still wont rev past 2k rpm

Does the car have to be switched on or have power to do this adjustment? I've tried to different multimeters and I get no continuity beep.

You shouldn't need power to read continuity. The multi meter supplies a small current and tries to detect it. Make sure you are in the correct setting on the multi meter by touching the two leads together and listening for a beep. If you are not getting continuity, the switch may be broken and you would need to open it up and repair.

I'm having issues with my 88 this is reoccurring it went away for 3 months then came back. Its having problems starting but when it dose start it kinda idles ok but when you get on the gas it jumps and jerks. Only when applying any gas. It's weird if gone through the entire fule system except the pump. Could it be that my 02 sensor is deleted to? Theres just to many factors I'm about to just take to to the shop

How do you get at the throttle stop screw? I can get the jam nut loose but it’s upside down. Also any problems after deleting idle stuff?

That is a throttle position switch It has or early ones did , a full throttle contacts

I'm in the process of deleting things and capping off vaccum lines. I know I have to reset the tps to 1000RPM, is this the same method to adjust that? I was just wondering becuase I really didnt see how you adjusted it, just put the leads in and you pressed the throttle? Kinda confused

Sounds like it could be anything, timing, ignition, fuel

Turbocharged Creations funniest thing happened last night. I power washed underneath hood and hesitated for little while after then worked perfectly like brand new car

Turbocharged Creations hey bud car started with the hesitation again. It ran perfect for couple weeks after the wash underneath hood but last week it started up again. Once I give car throttle it kind of bogs then will build up in RPMs after I put it in gear it'll do same and even trying to get speed is almost impossible

i don't think all auto transmission models have that second connector since my 84 z31 does not have one and its a stock auto also I love your videos they are really helpful. Keep up the good work.

I thought this would be a bit more helpful - show the meter - not everyone has a beeper on their meter. It would be nice to see meter results when adjusting the tps as per the fsm recommends - And of course not all have grasped the concept of continuity - like me - I'm not the sharpest blade in the drawer. Otherwise a pretty decent vid. Just remember not all viewers know what u know.

Hi Marc the mult-imeter we where using in this video was under $15 online most if not all multi meters do have a continuity beeper since that the first thing you should do is check your leads every time time you use it, the video is a "quick tip" not a full in depth diagnostic. But will keep that in mind if we come back to the TPS in another video. Thanks!

I know I am two years late to this discussion, but just to provide more info to anyone who comes upon this later: To test for continuity without a beeper, set your multi meter to resistance. !Make sure whatever you are measuring for continuity has no power running through it! Now touch the two probes together, this is a continuous circuit. Now note what your multimeter displays. (should be a really small number or 0) Next separate the two probes, non continuous circuit, and note what the multi meter displays. (usually this is OPEN or OL) Now you can use your multi meter to check for continuity on any circuit. Disclaimer: It has been a while since I had to use a multimeter so my examples for what the meter displays are vague. This is why I want you to check what YOUR meter tells you in those situations. Also, electricity is danger. Please don't die.
