I will say, seeing the unicorns be all depressed makes so much sense to me X"D They lost their magic. That was one of the biggest things unicorns had going for them back in the day. So of course they're all dull and gloomy. It's like Crystal Ponies without the Crystal Heart. They had lost a core part of their very _being._

G4 gave the franchise maturity and nuance. G5 is literally following the lead of G4. I would love to see the events of G4 continue to play a role, but also for G5 to take off in its’ own direction.

Can we talk about the “dead” dad? The thing he built for Sunset has the earth pony gem, and the “bedtime story” included the main 6. They were probably gonna go down in pony history! Are we sure the dad is dead? Maybe he was trying to unite magic. I hope we get more into detail about him if they’re is a show.

Can we all take about the fact that a male pony join the group. I mean that is so unique.

I like how they handled Sprout. His sudden yet natural transition from timid deputy to power crazed dictator was so well done. I also appreciate how his own mother decided to avoid reprimanding him in any way, which also feels natural because she was an enabler to his fear mongering, but also avoid accepting or justifying his actions because she actively disagreed with what he had done.

I’m not sure why, but I adore that they named her Sunny, giving a nudge at Twilight. I know it’s obvious but I didn’t think about it fully until sometime after watching the movie.

Generation one was largely based on Dungeons and Dragons and according to some, pretty dark, with monsters, kidnapping, fights and ponies running for their lives. As far as I know My Little Pony was for boys and girls until they decided to focus on girls and amp up the girlyness to eleven in generation two and two plus. It's curious that you conveniently forget to show fragments from the pilot: escape from midnight castle. That episode had some grim dark scenes in it and they later recolored a lot of the generation one cartoons, because they thought the older colors where "too dark" for a cartoon for girls.

As someone who wasn't into the candy-colored pony franchise and only had slight interest in G4, seeing the trailer for G5 made me curious because of how adorable it looked without it being oversaturated. So I had it on in the background while I was drawing at 3 am- it was enjoyable to look at and the writing was clever along with the characters being charming and funny. Looking back on the movie a 2nd time, the amount of detail in the art and designs is admirable; really cute and harmless movie with good writing, very glad it isn't watered down to spoon-feed the kids.

My mom grew up with G1, I grew up with G3 and my cousins grew up with G4 :) I love that this franchise is still thriving, but can we not devalue the older stuff so much? It had plenty of merit!

I feel like the sort of felt/fleece bump mapping they did for the fur was a really nice touch. I feel like a lesser studio would have either made every character smooth jigglypuff looking things with no texture at all, or attempted to go the Zootopia route with hyper realistic hair and ended up with that mangey first draft Sonic the Hedgehog look. This middle ground was the best of all worlds. It was within their means, it didn't break the budget, and it still looked really really nice. Despite the film's occasional misstep, which I cannot deny it had, it really feels like the folks behind it understood the essence of what we all enjoyed in G4. It's fun, it's got a strong grasp of both levity and gravity, and at the end of the movie I wanted to see more of these characters, which is the biggest thing a pilot movie needs to accomplish. I also feel like this movie did the whole... "pony racism" thing a lot better than G4 ever did. G4 tried so many times and it failed very consistently. I cannot give it any credit on that. With the way it was handled in G5, it really hit me when the foals were playing their game pretending to be unicorns and kill each other, that like, oh hang on, this is the "Cowboys and Indians" kind of racism. And carrying that attitude through the metaphor made it seem a lot more realistic and sincere than it ever was in G4. That's not to say it's perfect here either, but if they insist on continuing to try it, they're at least moving in the right direction.

I was honestly surprised by how explicit the message was. It's very rare I see childrens' movies depict bigotry in a way that felt so scarily real. Even though I admit it was a lot for me at first, after I got over the initial shock I came to appreciate how the message was delivered. Easily changed it from your basic "be nice to everyone despite their differences" movie with a kind of implied allegory to a straight up "don't be r@c1st movie". This could 100% be an overreaction on my part, but I really can't say I was expecting something like that from a My Little Pony movie. Either that, or I really need to up my standards lol.

The animation was really good! I feel like that helped a lot lol.

I felt like there’s a scene in the ending that everyone came together and put the lighthouse back the way it was (with the help of magic) but time and budget didn’t allow it. The thought that Sunny is now homeless is so sad. Or maybe they’re saving it for 44 minutes special coming later, discover more clues from secrets hidden in the lighthouse while they’re rebuilding it.

Sprout is so great, i really hope he gets a redemption in the show, i also hope he will become the sixth element "growth" After all Sprout means growth. I hope they make more out of him.

Hard to believe that Saberspark hasn't made a My Little Pony video for a long time.

I never really "got into" MLP gen 4, but as a father, I really enjoyed watching the show with my children. It was a very well written show with great characters and great lessons for kids that were presented well without beating you in the head with it like most kids shows (except when it did on purpose and owned it).

I liked the foreshadowing in the last few seconds that the workings of earth pony magic will be elaborated on. Like the kid running in the field made the grass light up. So much potential for the future show. So much to look forward to ^^

I adored this movie I just want to preface. I think the amount of plot holes or weak character motivation equals the amount of foreshadowing for the tv show. Which at the end of the day I don’t have a problem with. This is a movie for kids and the preface to a whole tv series, not everything is going to be solid in the story telling just yet, especially when the real content hasn’t been written yet. Also the songs were in fact awesome, I’m in total agreement there. Oh and I would sacrifice myself for Izzy, I adore her.

I believe all art should be based and judged on it’s merits, no matter the audience or demographic, and if something is good, even if I don’t personally like it, I can admire its strength for all it tried.

I grew up with mlp G4 and I got my boyfriend, who really didn't like or want to like mlp, to watch this with me. And he ACTUALLY enjoyed the movie. I think there being an actual male a part of the Mane5 helped. He really liked Hitch and I am so excited to possibly watch the series with him.

Although it's "contained" without big events or villains taking place, I actually enjoyed the movie more so. To me it was an "imaginary slice of life" scenario, which I completely adore. It allowed to focus on establishing character personalities and giving us a scoop of what's going on without it being too much.

Gen 1 MLP is actually pretty good for a little kids show... The best way I could describe it is that it is probably what you would get if a daycare full of 5-8 year old girls played Dungeons and Dragons, but all their characters were horses. So there not much there for an adult but for a kids show it had a lot of very cool elements.

During the end credits, I saw three fillies of each group playing, and I think we are looking at a new generation of Cutie Mark Crusaders.

I thought it was the other way around, I thought 3D was cheaper to work on larger productions since u work with more deep assets while on 2D u cant reuse all of it, I thought that was the reason we dont have 2D movies anymore in the mainstream, now it's more like a nich thing

The stained-glass panel they show gives an interesting theory as to what might have happened. Best I can make of it without them having provided any other details is, at some point, Twilight must've instructed each tribe to present a crystal which she and the rest of the Mane 6 infused with a massive amount of magic. For what reason, we can only speculate at this point. Perhaps Twilight and the others actually became the magic itself infused into the crystals? And, without Twilight and the others as guiding lights, arguments broke out among the tribes that resulted in each tribe taking back their piece of the crystal out of spite, not realising that's why magic went away?

Its nice to see more male main characters. I don't mind MLP targetting a girl demographic, the old MLP series being about um...pink, teacups and stupidity? isn't a bad thing, but I guess the direction MLP is going is much more appealing to the general younger generation. Horses and ponies are cool for everyone. I love the songs, the characters, and animation. Angry mob was a bit ridiculous tho imo lol.

The lore implications for G4 still being canon are horrifyingly amazing

I’ve been a MLP fan pretty much my whole life, and what kinda bummed me out is they didn’t use any of the old school characters. Gen 4 brought new life to iconic characters such as Pinky Pie and Spike , I wish they’d brought back a couple oldies who weren’t in Friendship is Magic like Minty and Sundance

I just like how pretty the Pegasus ponies wings are, everything about the character models are more detailed than they ever have been before! They look so good.

I liked that one of the crew was male, it's like they realized that boys like it too and threw us a bone. Yes there were dudes in the friendship is magic version but they were side characters that weren't really apart of the "crew". This feels good and not too preachy (in general), just working together for common goals and if that continues I'll be happy but if they reduce hitch's role in the show I'll be kinda bummed about it.

At first, I was sad My Little Pony *G4* is going to end and replacing it with another MLP *G5* version but now I just accepted and acknowledge the new version of it. And make new fun memories with these new characters. Honestly, I cried when I watched the movie... XD

If G5 is directly set/loosely directly set after G4, then that would be great. The last 2 seasons of FiM were kinda clunky, rushed and unsatisfying. The last season felt like it was going nowhere and the Discord reveal was bs. Being able to expand upon the established world of FiM, while adding and establishing new elements would be awesome.

I have a feeling the show is going to be about how they're actually going to get along and will hopefully give us some background on how they all ended up segregated. Also this movie is great and my only nitpick is how underused Hitch is. Especially during the dance off smh.

Well, I like how this title reminds me how FiM got popular in the first place. "Haha, let's laugh at the lame kids show... wait, it has actually good characters, thought out lore, doesn't talk down to its audience, great music, pop culture references, and is wholesome without diving into over-sacherine?! Is this even possible for a kids show?" A reminder kid friendly doesn't imply kid exclusive.

WARNING LONG LONG POST Okay, watched the show today and some things people aren't mentioning but me and my friend noticed: *The* *show* *implies* *that* *the* *mane* *6* *may* *have* *had* *descendants*. Firstly, Sunny could maybe be Twilight's descendant because of where she lives (more on that later) and because of the objects she owns such as the journal with Twilight's cutie mark and the necklace with Twilight's cutie mark. Second is Hitch who is probably Fluttershy's descendant with how animals are just "megnetically attached to him" plus his color scheme matches that of Zephyr, Fluttershy's brother. Next is Izzy. She matches Pinkie Pie's personality and even does the hopping thing that Pinkie does. I'm still not sure if Zipp and Pip are descendants of Rainbow and Rarity respectively because how did their family line intersect? Their personalities match closely though but I don't think they're related (?). Finally, Sprout. It's most evident with him and his mom with their color scheme (lit. like Big Mac), their speech (his mom calls him "sugar cube", a term of endearment Applejack used), and their HONESTY. Yes, Sprout lies ALOT because of his lazy bum, but he does show moments of honesty with his mom and the moment he realized the pegasi and unicorns might come after them. We then noticed the locations of the movie are interestingly picked. We see that the pegasi are living in Luna and Celestia's/ Twilight's castle which means they are now in Canterlot. Also, could it be that Sunny's home (the lighthouse) is what used to be Twilight's tree house? Because it housed the gems which is similar to how Twilight's tree house housed the elements and the map. Also, could the unicorns be living in Zacora's old home? Or is Izzy living in where the new tree of harmony used to be? This show is honestly good, but not great most notably with how the characters are handled (hopefully if they make a show they do these characters better). An example would definitely be Pip. She was the most disappointing one out of everyone. She had no inner conflict or struggle and she already has a job, leaving her with no dreams or ambitions and though her job is interesting (if they play around it good with struggles and stuff) it's not delved upon much in the movie. Plus, she almost had no role in the film. Also, her voice acting was the most obviously jarring. Hitch and Zipp come in close second but I think their voices were okay not great but okay. Hitch is another pony they did dirty to. They hinted alot that he liked to dance (I'd like to think if he had a cutie mark it'd be related to dancing), so why is HE not the one that danced off to Alphabittle?? I do like his character though, was a li'l boring at the beginning but they were able to redeem him as the movie went on such as showing his flaws/quirks (being cocky and confident-ish), his strictness, and his want for peace giving some type of ambition. i feel like because of the fact that there's a series coming up, i'm not bothered by all the unexplained lore, unanswered questions and smaller scope of the story. i'm hoping the series will get to start to explore everything else around over time and answer some of the bigger questions, kinda like how fim did.

I once accidentally walked in on Bronycon 2019 because a sibling of mine had a Rubik's cube competition in the same building, it was quite an experience to say the least.

I feel 17 again. Falling in love with ponies, listening to the villain songs over and over again, drawing! I haven't drawn in months, and suddenly I'm doodling for hours! MLP really does have my whole heart.

This movie was wonderful. As heavy handed as it's message was, I was genuinely surprised at how good it was. It knows it won't be G4, but it knows what made G4 good and is doing a great job at doing it's own thing with it.

I remember being really worried that I would dislike the characters but they were surprisingly smart and creative and actually super cute

The theorists and analysts of the fandom have already started going to town on this movie trying to catch every single connection and reference they can. Did anybody else notice that the Pegasus and unicorn in the mural have a golden pair of wings and horn? Or how about the fact that Argyle had a picture of an ancient relic from the Equestria Girls series in his lighthouse (specifically, a relic that makes people/ponies forget about whatever the user wants them to forget). We’re going to be picking this movie apart for a while, and I’m nothing but excited for the new series coming out next year!

To be honest, I'm kinda worried about the TV Show too, because not only the animation of the movie looks way too expensive to fit a TV Show but the voice actors.. the people they picked are also expensive! Are they gonna change the voices?? Is the Show gonna be short..? Because I'm sure it'll cover what happened in the past with the magic and stuff like that but.. I can't help it but feel a little bit more worried than excited! :"D

the main thing that I noticed about the film was the animation, there was so much quality to it, one thing in particular (I noticed this in Riya and the last dragon too), was THE EYES and I don't just mean the colours or details, I mean the effort! they did that thing where the eyes actually moved when they were staying still, if there was ever a close up on the eyes they would be slightly flickering from side to side, taking in all the details! The quality of the animation I can't- (I also loved what they did to the hooves)

Honestly, I like how the movie looks, but I feel like the plot of the movie was really rushed. They just sorta showed up in places, "we need the MacGuffin" somebody gets it for them, and then at the end, (SPOILER ALERT) the MacGuffin was inside of us all along. I feel like everywhere they went wasn't a big journey, it was like, an hour's walk at most. There was just too much packed into a small space, I didn't really get time to appreciate any of the characters. The characters barely ever fought with eachother, they just got kind of bitter at one point and got over it because campfires or something. It wasn't a terrible movie for me, though. The movie looks great as I wrote before, and I really like the new direction the story is going in. I like that the problem they'll be facing is of a bigger scale this time, and that the characters aren't just copies of the last cast. I never look at the characters and think "oh that's the new Rarity" or "there's the new Fluttershy". I'm really hoping to learn a bit more about the characters in the upcoming series!

Could Sunny somehow be a reference to Wings of fire? Because in those books, there are seven dragon tribes and they are at war with each other, but Sunny in the 5th book stops the war and builds a school to unite all tribes. Sunny in mlp basically does that with the unicorns and pegasi

The movie reminds me of a kind of reverse Redwall orValdemar Both those series contain start out in the “present” with characters idolizing or dreaming about their respective legendary heroes. One of the most depressing things while reading the Redwall series was in Loamhedge, which ties in to stuff from books two and three, and having those things be considered ancient history. Especially since it wasn’t a manufactued jump like this.It was literally a 14 year gap beetween the publication dates.

I had my reservations after hearing about G5 and seeing the trailers, but after giving this movie a try, I'm now curious to see where this will go. There's little dispute that Izzy was the biggest hook for all of us, but we can't overlook the quality of the 3D animation, musical numbers, and modernization of the My Little Pony world (not to mention all the real-life references). Thematically, the movie's take on racism (a la Pony Apartheid) is about the most we could expect from something aimed at kids. The storyline revolving around it, however, did feel contained and a little oddly-paced. The biggest things for me were the fact that the magic/abilities of all the Equestrians somehow became contingent on some crystals, and how quickly Pipp Petals adjusted to being part of Sunny's posse. Maybe the magic-crystal link will be explained in the TV show (along with many other plot/lore questions), but Pipp just seemed underdeveloped in the movie. I guess we'll have to wait for her arc in the TV show, too.

I cant believe I’m still around to witness a new generation unfold I literally grew up with MLP FiM This is all so great, I literally was in awe watching the movie

I'm not going to lie, this movie was starting on a backfoot with me. Set in the same world, with unfamiliar elements but in 3D, like you said. I had my reservations. And I have to admit, if this movie was just passable, I would have shat all over it. Said it is a downhill run and was trash up and down. But, despite that, it put it's foot up and prepared itself. The story is interesting, they didn't answer questions that didn't need them (At the moment.) and the songs were catchy and hum-worthy. Whether this becomes a series or not is still a mystery, but I did really enjoy this movie.

"At the core of it all, for both the fandom and the show, there's some pretty cool stuff" Honestly I think this line here is important. There's a lot of different franchises/series/whatever that end up getting this super messed up reputation, not because there's anything actually messed up in the show/game itself, but because the fandom comes along and covers it in what is perceived to be creepy-weird things. Well, SOME of the fandom. With something like this there's always plenty who dont do that stuff and just enjoy the bloody thing normally. But the ones that cause the reputation are so freaking LOUD, and that creates a problem. Like FNAF for instance. I remember being there when the first game originally showed up... the series didnt have a reputation yet for anything other than being "really scary and unique". It was a fun horror experience with some well-done elements, quite enjoyed it, just like any other game. But after awhile it started to go all strange... the really overboard stuff started showing up, and suddenly those who were just enjoying it in a totally normal way now get insulted and such if people find out they like it. And then of course other people who havent tried it yet who WOULD like it end up not doing so, because the loopy vocal side of the fandom pushes them away. And really it's frustrating to watch that. I'm not at all familiar with MLP whatsoever... most I've seen is some random clips of funny moments, typical "watch for a quick laugh" KZfaq stuff. But I'm certainly familiar with other properties that get a bad and totally nonsensical reputation (not just FNAF), and I hate seeing it happen every single bloody time. I always tell people: Ignore whatever the loud part of the fandom is doing. Ignore it entirely. And if the thing looks AT ALL interesting, give it a try... regardless of anything else. Because whatever it is, it probably didnt START weird, and there might be something really great at its core. You just gotta get past the preconceived negativity that shouldnt be there in the first place. And there's nothing wrong with liking it, whatever it is. Also, just to be clear: There's nothing wrong with being a "Brony" or going to a convention or whatnot (though I tend to think that word "Brony" probably REALLY doesnt help). Or making fanart of your favorite character, or buying merch, whatever. Fans of ALL SORTS of things do all of those and it's fine. What I'm talking about is the REALLY overboard and loud stuff... you know what I mean, I doubt I have to paint you a picture here.

It was interesting how G5 was like during the Hearthswarming Eve episode with the story with the Windigos etc. But where were they? Why weren’t they flying around, causing everything to freeze? And what even happened to the Mane 6? Wasn’t Twilight supposed to be immortal or somewhat since she became ruler? Many questions but hopefully they’d be answered. I loved Sprout’s song. It was so much like Nirvana which was hilarious and I swear all villain songs are catchy (looking at you Spinel w Other Friends). I loved all the references from g4, it felt like a nice breath of air

Hearing “my little pony” in saberspark’s voice made me time travel back to 2012.

Was into FIM like 7 or so years ago, but kind of grew out of it. Came home extremely drunk one night and saw this on Netflix and decided to give it a shot, and I actually kind of enjoyed it. I loved the animation, there was enough "grown up jokes" to outweigh some of the cringe that inherently comes with it being a movie aimed at kids. My nostalgia for what was probably the least proud part of my childhood probably played a significant part in my perception of the movie aswell xd. Overall, definitly the kind of movie both kids and adults can enjoy together. I might actually give the series a go, though if it is going to be 20 minute episodes that might dumb it down a bit too much for me.

I was concerned with how small the world felt too but then I was thinking, this is a post war society. Of course population is probably smaller, of course there is a lot of blank space between towns. As a series, I really hope they start to look back at the old "history" of g4 and maybe follow the story of reuniting with and making peace with other g4 species like the Kirins, dragons or the various other creatures. There's so much content they can pull and have the main characters rediscover from g4. Which would make it perfect for veteran fans who watched g4 and also new fans who haven't yet!

I legitimately love the episode about Princess Luna dealing with her own guilt with the Inception vibes of dreams. I cried like a baby at the end of it, but the moment I told some friends that I liked that episode, I was accused of being a brony… I mean, I’m a woman but ok? So, no judgement from me, I unabashedly love that show and enjoyed the new movie. Makes it easier to watch it when I have a 3 year old daughter who loves it too lol

I absolutely loved this movie. I had high hopes for it from the start, and I was not disappointed!! As someone who loves animation, I thought the animation was incredible. It truly seemed like Disney level 3D work. The movement is fluid, the lighting is an awesome touch, and it’s so detailed that you can see each strand of hair on a pony’s mane. As for story, I thought that was good too. A little rushed near the end, but they still told the story very well. And what made it even better is how intriguing each of the characters are. Really great movie!!

I really liked this movie too! As a kid I liked G1 MLP toys mostly because they were the only toys at my cousins’ house but I never saw them as being only for girls. I saw them only as toys to play with. I remember watching a few episodes of the first two series as a kid. Then G3 came around and I liked how some of the Ponies looked but never got into their movies or toys. But then G4 came around and I loved Friendship is Magic for its writing and animation and how it showed kids ways to settle conflict without always needing to use excessive force to end it. The character development was pretty good and I liked how there were actual male characters that weren’t being used as side characters that only appear in a couple of episodes or insignificant background characters. Each Pony had their own unique charm and personality that there wasn’t one that felt like a generic character.

Can't believe I totally missed this till now. MLP is a bit of a comfort show for me, so I'm cautiously optimistic about this.

The animations in G5 is somewhat Disney + Pixar-ish

Before this movie, I thought G5 is going to be a reboot of MLP and I was shocked to found out it's a direct continuation which implies every character from G4 are dead. And this adds a little mystery which I hope they will address - what happened to immortal alicorns
