I review using quikrete repair mortar and give examples on jobs I used it on, every situation is different but I have had no trouble or callbacks in the way I use it. All my videos are my ways and ideas, I always suggest anyone doing any type of work to consult professional help.

A legend is someone who leaves behind an unforgettable impression on others. They touch lives, they're remembered, they're cherished. There are all sorts of legends in this world - famous or not. Becoming one means finding your particular role, your calling, following it, and touching others around you. I feel this definition describes Mike Haduck perfectly. Thanks for everything you do for all of us.

I work on a couple dozen different rent houses every month for property managers. General maintenance. I carry a 5 pound pail of it in my service truck to seal common mouse holes behind kitchen ranges, dishwashers, and cabinets. I can mix the right amount in a disposable paint container. I used to use Rapid Setting Tile Mortar for this purpose, but it is far dustier (messier) to deal with than Quikrete Repair Mortar. Thanks for the review Mike!

I live in Rhode Island and in the winter we use a product called hard- n-fast a box comes with like 20 10 oz bags of powder with one bag you can mix 3 80 lb bags of Ready-Mix mortar I usually use amerimix or spec mix type S so it is good for big jobs but that is a good idea to use that fast setting repair mortar for small jobs in the winter time thanks for the tip

Hi Mike, I have a concrete block home. When I was replacing a window the overhead mortar on my block that slopes towards my window broke loose. Would this product work to fill back in the overhead mortar which is an inch or 2 thick? How thick would you recommend applying at a time? I tried type S mortar and it just fell off and didn't stick. Someone recommended speedwall or SikaQuik VOH. Is this product similar to those? Thanks Mike

Mike, I'm confused. I thought you needed to use only soft mortar to repoint brickwork because the mortar is supp osed to be weaker than the brick? Won't this really strong mortar crack the brickwork?
@MikeHaduck

Hi Tom, I would say not on small point ups but that is one reason I add sand to the mix is to make it weaker for those purposes, my opinion, Mike

Got a question for you Mike...but first, a brief explanation of what I'm doing. I'm going to start setting limestone rocks for a stone(freestanding wall) at a height of two and a half feet. I want to leave the stones in their natural, somewhat round shape rather than facing the stones, except where it may be necessary. The limestone rocks are an average of 8" to 14" in diameter and are mostly round or slightly oval in shape with no two of them being exactly the same. I want to set the stones as they are and not face them. Your general message is that people can pretty much build things as they like as long as the end result is structurally sound and generally, properly constructed. I believe my plan is suitable but I would highly value your opinion on this. I have constructed a footing that is 24" deep x 24" wide x 24' long and I poured a 3-1/2" thick concrete slab on top of the "footing". The footing was constructed using old solid concrete blocks, small limestone rubble, and base material was compacted into the layers as the trench was filled. Does this sound adequate to you? Is it okay that the wall will not have a "flat" face? Is it okay to leave the rocks in their natural shape? You are awesome and I have referred your channel to several of my long time friends and my best friend has passed the info onto his son who is flipping houses. Thank you very much for the work you do and the knowledge you share with people like myself...that make a "project" out of everything. LOL!

@MikeHaduck Mike, how do you determine when to add sand to this product? Let's say I have a hole in a stucco wall, say 4 inches deep, and I see direct rotted wood, in this scenario, how do I know if I should add sand or not?
@MikeHaduck

@@MikeHaduck in 1 minute and 40 seconds, you said "this product [high performance cement --fastset repair mortar] is very strong, so sometimes you'll see me add some sand to it." Also at 2:35 you also said sometimes I'll add sand to it, but not in this case. why? questions: does adding sand allow for less shrinkage? why does adding sand make the product weaker? Does adding portland to the mix make it stronger? Does adding sand make it set faster or slower? Does adding portland make it set faster or slower? 3:25, here for the steps, you added a little sand and cement to it so it slows it down so you have more time to work with it, but was sand or cement (portland) slow it down? you said you'll do this with a larger piece. 4:40 you also said you weaken it during repointing, you put a little sand in it. why do you use this product only for small jobs only? Is there a way to make stucco (standard) or cement / concrete more water proof, as in water would not soak into the wall? Would you add acrylic if so, how much would you add? Thanks.
@MikeHaduck
@MikeHaduck Ай бұрын
Hi, Masonry is not black and white, they try to do that by making the premixes but they just started coming around in the last ten years, every mason from different areas or countries had their own mixes which they used for years, sometimes I do repointing, or plaster ir stone or brick and use the mixes I learned from the oldtimers, if my dad used the mix 60 years ago and it held up well, I still use it, that is why in each video I show what I used in that situation, I don't always trust these new products and might add a little more cement to the mix if it is exposed to the weather or more sand if it just to fill a void, it's experience, that's my opinion or best answer, thanks Mike
