Lorena! Thank you so much for sharing this technique. Although I have always done self-binding quilts, I still struggle and have just rolled it over as I go just like Granny did. I dread doing the edges for this reason and have been trying to find an easier way. This will be a HUGE time saver for me and it looks so beautiful. Glue...that's ingenious! It looks so beautiful and much cleaner than my edges have been. Can't wait to try!!

My mother used to do it this way every now and then, I've done it my self a time or two. But haven't tried it on large quilts. Baby quilts or lap quilts. This would also be good if your making a quilted wall hanging also.

This looks like a great technique! I will definitely try it. Sometimes I watch videos that make quilting like rocket science, so hard and intimidating. But unless you are making a quilt for a show or contest, it does not have to be that way. This is a really nice tutorial, you explain everything so well. This will really simplify things.

Julia Hynes I haven't tried it on flannel backing. I do think it should work the same. I recommend that you give your self a little bit more room like 1 1/4 when your cutting the outside back fabric. I think flannel is a little bit thicker to fold over and maybe an extra 1/4 or 1/8 would give you more space to fold you fabric over. I will try to find some flannel and try it on a little swatch and let you know but I do think that thicker fabrics will just need a little bit more fabric on the back to fold over nicely than the 1 inch on regular cotton fabric.

I leave a 2 inch border with flannel. It makes a one inch binding which is better. I have also left a 3 inch border with flannel for the best binding for the thickness of flannel front and back. That makes a 1.5 inch binding. I liked the tutorial very much.

I wanted to thank you for posting your video, this method is so much easier than, making yards and yards of binding, then _fingers crossed_ joining up the two ends. Nice technique...you make it look easy...but I prefer the look on the back of a quilt when the binding is a different fabric, so I will stick with the traditional method of sewing on a binding.

I am a novice quilter and never really sewed anything. I embroidered a pre-printed baby quilt which took me 8 months to complete. I wanted to give the quilt to my 1 year old great niece for Christmas and it was Christmas Eve and I didn't know how to finish it. I went on KZfaq to find away how to do the backing and I found your video. I use this technique and I finished it in no time. The finished quilt came out beautiful! I actually used flannel as the backing. Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm working on my 2nd quilt and will used this technique to finish that one too.

To Becky Sills I use Elmer's Glue stick wash away. You can also use liquid glue it works also. It got messy for me to use it and I found that Elmer's glue wash away glue stick was easier for me. Lorena

Just what I was looking for! Had done something similar on a smaller quilt and now will use this technique on a large quilt. Thanks for sharing and showing how to do this technique is such great detail. Helps a lot.
