If you ever go back to the area, there's a great quilt shop about 45 mins away from Paducah called Backyard Fabrics near Mayfield KY. It's definitely worth a visit!

Fred & I "stopped" at Hancock of Paducah a couple of years ago when we drove from Western North Carolina to Iowa to rescue our 7 yr old Corgi. We are planning a cross country trip to Washington state in June and I have worked Paducah into our return trip. I DID NOT KNOW about the back room.. I will DEFINITELY find it this trip for sure. Interesting about the Flood walls murals. Along with the NQM, and a couple of the quilt shops you mentioned...makes me think it'll be more than an overnight stay! LOL THANK YOU for all the great info!

My hubby & I were fulltime RVers and in 2022 our 1st stop in Kentucky was Paducah (I was going to the Museum & Hancock of Paducah for fabrics!) But after only 3 days in town, we started looking for a permanent home! The town is charming & the people are warm and friendly. That was 2 years ago & I make sure I only go to Hancock no more than 3 times a year (or my budget will be blown every month!😂) Now I'm not a quilter, I love Hancock store for the beautiful fabrics to make blouses, dresses & such to wear (definitely one of a kind clothes) The favorite restaurants we've grown to love are O'Charleys & Rafferty's and if your wanting mexican look for Mi Lindo Mexicano in the downtown (down along the market square area) for outdoor seating or their original location out on the southside area along Irving Cobb Rd.

I went to Paducah last summer and spent quite a bit at Hancocks and the Sewing Emporium. I went to the quilt museum specifically for the Kaffe Fassett exhibit. Marilyn Badger’s Show Stopper exhibit was beautiful. For food, the Branch Out restaurant is awesome. I hit Broussard’s twice but ate at Branch Out 3 or 4 times. There is a cute little bead shop downtown. I found some nice beads for jewelry. I probably won’t get back to Paducah till 2025 but would love to make the trip again. And the flood wall… I walked the length of it and it’s an interesting visual history of Paducah. Found a Singer 301a in an antique store.

Never been there, sounds like a great place to visit even if you aren't a quilter. I do enjoy your videos. I am a wanna be quilter, I am just getting started, I have only done a few I sop quilty for my great grandchildren. I am starting late in life. Now that i am retired I'm hoping to have more time, and do more. Seems like the hardest thing is to let other things go, and sit down at the sewing machine. I think I will try to find a friend who might like to check out Paducah.

A few of us took a bus trip to Paducah a few years ago and I remember spending a few hours in Hancock's...what a shop! The National Quilt Museum was amazing and they had a nice gift shop. Cheryl, the lady who owns Muppin, is from IL does teach some neat fabric manipulation and smocking techniques. Did you go to Global Artisans? I have shopped at their booth at quilt shows and they now have a store in Paducah. Great video, glad y'all had a good time.

Greetings! Paducah? We flew thru with our RV a few years ago. All I remember is the quilt made of wood! Husband Sam calls “his” moter home a Quilt Mobile cuz my quilting takes up most of the space in the rig when I quilt. Poor boy. I usually have to drag him into shops with me. Though, I am hooked on quilting and shall not be deterred. Meanwhile, I love your videos! The one with Wes, your son and their quilts were hysterical! Thanks for the laugh.😊

So, yes, I did enjoy hearing this. One time on Simply Quilts Alex Anderson had a lady that did the pleats and showed how to manipulate them. It was interesting. Went to Paducah last year with my 2 quilting friends. We visited about two weeks after the big quilt show. We went to the Natl Quilt Museum, which was ok. I didn’t realize the exhibits were all modern quilts. I didn’t get any inspiration from the exhibits. We also visited the flood wall murals, Muppin’s Sewing Emporium, took an afternoon to go drive through The Land Between the Lakes Area, wanted to go to the Tilghman House and Museum but it was closed, and Hancock’s of Paducah, of course. Hancock’s was a bit overwhelming, so we went back the next day to make sure we saw everything. I bought a lot of batik fabrics that were on clearance in the $4.99-$5.99 range, probably enough to make 4-5 oversized throws. Also bought a few layer cakes from the precut room. I do like their website, I’ve spent a lot of money there in the past 3 years, growing my fabric stash. I would like to go back and take in a few more museums and local restaurants next time.

I really really like Paducah and could go back again too!!! I like looking at all quilts and am amazed at how talented some quilters are!!! I have really cut back on spending in the past two years. It looks like I spent a bunch, but most of my fabric, like yours was under $6 a yard. I really am liking brights right now and I don't have many brights so I did buy a bit...I think I am done buying fabrics for awhile. Thanks for taking the time to share! I enjoy hearing from others!

But after seeing this, and reading the comments, I realize I'm going to have to win the lottery before I go -- for all the fabric at the various places that I'm going to get and for the new house with a lot more room for all the fabric. 😉

Me and my cousin went to Paducah a few years ago. It's a trip we wanted to go on. We went to the quilt museum also. We went to Hancock's. Didn't get to stay long as it was almost closing time but we did have about an hour. Did some shopping.

I’ve been to Paducah several times. A group my friends go there every year to the AQS quilt show in April. We go for the whole week. The first year that we went, there was a flood and the flood walls were in use…They are beautiful! The one place that you didn’t mention that we go to every year is to the Purple Toad Winery.

Love your channel! I have been to Paducah twice! Love the museum! Have not had the had the opportunity to shop! Will definitely be planning to go back! There is a warehouse in Batesville, AR that would be a great place for you to visit. It is called Marshall’s Dry Goods. The owner designs fabrics and has his own factories! It is amazing! Christian Tours, based in Maiden NC, has a quilt tour. I've taken & it was quite fun & inspirational. After the Paducah museum time we were supposed to be done for the day but our tour director found Calico Country Quilt store & they were kind enough to stay open for us! It was a beautiful store & super friendly staff. The tour ended at the Missouri Quilt in Hamilton, MO. It really was a collection of quilt knitting vintage whimsical fabrics on one street & we had a chance to meet Jennifer in person. Check out Christian Tours.

I don’t travel, so I always enjoy watching videos of quilt shops and other places. I’ve looked at the Hancock’s of Paducah website when I’m online fabric shopping, but I find the site very hard to navigate. There must be some search trick I can’t figure out.
@thesimplequilter7499
@thesimplequilter7499 4 ай бұрын
The trick is to look at the sales section and check it frequently. You can narrow your search in the sales section. For example maybe you just are interested in Moda fabric and you can put that in. I have slowed down on buying fabrics but I used to check it 1-2 times a week. When you see what you want, order it then! They sale out quickly. I have gotten almost entire fabric lines on sale! I especially like Moda and I frequently narrow my search to Moda.

I went to Paducah a few years ago during the big quilt show. They not only had venders in the main building but had this big long round hug tent filled with more venders. They called it the Bubble. I went downtown to Quilt In A Day store and because it was quilt week they had a big sale and I got jelly rolls half price. It took me three days to see things and that wasn’t enough.

We go to Paducah for groceries and other stuff, but we've never been to this quilt museum. To think we live so close and have missed out on it. And I didn't even know Hancock's was still in business! Maybe it's not the same chain that I frequented in Salem, Oregon; it closed down many years ago. Time to make another trip to Paducah.

We stayed at a wonderful airbnb in the historic district! It was amazing! It was the first airbnb we ever stayed at and it was wonderful! I think there are several in the historic district! I did not want to go during a quilt show so we went in mid March. some of the museums were not open then... that is not the tourist season. I have also been there in October and the fall color was amazing. Both times of year were great! Summer could be nice but I bet it would be more crowded. They have riverboat cruises that go there also! I am not big on huge crowds...

We did not camp there but looked for camping areas. We saw several state parks at Land Between the Lakes. I think that would be a great place to stay. I think it took us 30-40 minutes to get out there. We didn't fish this time but they have a lot of guides and a lot of undeveloped shoreline for fishing. We saw quite a bit of information online. The two lakes are Lake Barkley and Kentucky lake. Huge lakes!
