They probably didn't want a guy to be Edna like they did in the movie.

chrispleasantable It's not just the movie. Edna is traditionally played by a man. It's a tradition that has been going strong since the original John Waters Hairspray movie

right. if you don’t have have anyone that looks like her then DONT DO THE SHOW!!! it’s a huge plot point. god.

They coulda done a better job on making Tracy at least look fat but other than that this is a good production :)
