Yes it sad to see a lot of these buildings gone, I understand that some of them had to come down due to safety issues, but I sure hated to see others come down just so somebody could have a parking lot or put a new building in it's place. Buildings that are going up around Quincy certainly do not have the charm and character that the old buildings had.

perhaps one day we can get the ugly facades down from some of the still existing buildings.

This town back in the day is a lot more interesting than what you see nowadays. It’s dead in this town.

If you check out my other videos there are some pictures from the 60's and a few from the 70's, it does seem as the majority of the pictures out there of Quincy is more around the turn of the century era, one place that I would highly recommend going to is the Library in the reference area, there are lots of books there that can be very informative.

Quincy should have capitalized on its German architecture instead of letting those buildings rot. I still advocate for the city to renovate the buildings they have left. I'm living in Omaha now, and this city has done a fine job of creating a "downtown mall" of sorts by retrofitting their structures and buildings. I think that the Dick Brothers Building has a lot of potential to serve as an anchor for a German district much like Omaha's Old Market, but it would be an expensive project. =/ Shame.

The Carl Landrum books at the Library have many good images of early quincy, and other books on quincy history as well.

Beautiful pictures. I agree with the previous commenter, what wasn't destroyed by the tornadoes in the 1940s has been torn down or renovated so heavily that it's unrecognizable now. Quincy has no respect for its landmarks unless the state is chipping in (see the Denman row houses that Blessing bought out and promptly destroyed). Where is the preservation of our past so we have something to show our future?

I am glad that you think so, the real treat for me is knowing that people are not only enjoying this but visiting memory lane, please view the others that I had put together and share any special memories that you might have. I love listening to peoples memories of Quincy in the old days, I put all this together for the people of Quincy.

@farmgirly71 I too wish that some of those buildings could be renovated, not only is it too expensive, but there are so many codes that you have to comply with, unfortunately, some of these buildings do have to come down for safety reasons such as the Paper Box building.

I'm not sure that some of my fellow hometown residents from Quincy realize that, while some of the buildings in this beautiful video are no longer there, I remember quite a few which remain standing today. Not just that, but a couple of the businesses stayed in the same location! I live in Boston now, and 98% of the older, non-historic buildings are long gone.

If anyone reading this has access to any kart racing photos of racing at Quincy's South Park, especially back during the 1980's I would be very interested in getting copies of them.

Many of the downtown buildings are still standing. The stores are what have changed.
