As a life long Duke fan…I CANNOT TELL YOU…how hard it was to watch Kyrie go down with a season long injury eleven games into what we all knew was his only season his freshman year. Duke wins the Chip that year if he stays healthy. He was KILL-ING. Runnin’ circles around dudes prior to that injury. Alright man…I can’t talk about this no more…I gotta go😢😂😂

I knew right before... that summer i found his mixtapes on youtube. I knew since then this dude was gonna be special.. no cap... that duke season was crazy to watch, zions too, but kyries was memorable. That UNC game where he won was crazyyy

Even more brutal was the fact he came back, gave Arizona 28 in the tourney. But we manage to let Derrick williams get 30 in the 1st half to lose 😭😭😭

@@jamesrobles5587 Yeah, it was too late. Can’t just show up and form chemistry that late in year. Rotation changes…defensive principles change. Not to mention - imagine had he developed all season long. Was ALREADY a beast. Terrible injury.

@@holyrockstar Crazy. I remember before he came to Duke’s campus - his high school coach saying he was the best player to ever come out of New Jersey. I was thinking…that’s a *bold* statement. First time I saw him play my doubts were dismissed. Uncle Drew is a problem to this day.

Salute Quinn, the best out my city around my class. from aau with assault & high school with dematha & oak. Quinn always been tough, glad he got a ship in the nba. Only can want bra to win. He was like a Kyrie out our area. I remember going to coach wooden camp and seein him play against high schoolers at 13, I was 12 turning 12 thinking I was doing something dropping 15+ a game against 14s. Quinn ass playing against 15-16 year olds giving niggas buckets. 20+ a game. Glad he got to the league & was successful.

I remember telling people in the preseason that this kid kyrie was going to be the first overall pick after his freshman season at Duke. People told me I was ridiculous, then after they saw him play they were like yeah hell be a top 10 pick. Then he got hurt and people were like see no way he goes first now. And then once the mock draft season really picked up right before tournament time and they put kyrie at #1, my friends were like aight aight yeah you called it. Definitely one of my favorite sports takes over the years lol

Again, people who know hoop, remember this. Maggette, Brand, and William Avery left in 99 after they lost to Rip lead - UConn in the Finals. Maggette came off the bench which made it all the more unusual because until that point, the Dukies all stayed for 4 years. K told Avery that he was f-ing up his program. Then he signed J Williams, Casey Sanders, and Dunleavy- the Warriors GM.

@@christopherfrancis2211 the point is, for years, many top tier recruits avoided Duke and never considered them. That changed when K became USA basketball head coach. Duke went from the rep of ‘that’s where the white guys go to play’ to ‘he coached LeBron, Kobe, & KD.’ He also got to scout every good basketball player under 18 in a closed environment with no competition. His starting team from the 2015 NCAA champions all came through USA basketball. It was a distinct advantage and Jerry colangelo basically handed him a couple of championships.

Every player in college can EASILY be "ONE and DONE", that don't mean you're gonna be ANY good in the NBA. Heck, you can be FOUR and DONE, and won't last beyond the rookie deal in the NBA. There aren't many super exceptional players. Wemby is skilled and athletic for his height....but for the most part there aren't many players that TRULY separate themselves from the pack in the drafts over the years. A lot of NBA greats weren't great in college. I would say that there are MORE great players that went from High School to Pros then being a senior to the Pros in the last 30 years. Kobe, KG, Lebron, Tracey McGady, etc. I can also include Kyrie since he only played like 10 games before he left Duke.
