Thanks, Quinn! I've only been riding 2.5 years now and looking to be much faster in these competitions. Been a huge fan of yours :-) I greatly appreciate the advice and your time giving this feedback! I'll be practicing the balance ball, keeping body faced forward, don't drop in without power, and speeding up in the straight sections.

Quinn, curious. What tire pressures and suspension setting do you use on your RT?

Tire pressures are not as critical as in other types of motorcycling (off-road/track, etc.) And while I've tried track-type pressures (26-30psi), the bike tends to feel a bit sluggish on transitions and harder to steer. In the end, I run manufacturer recommended pressures (around 32front/36rear) because A) Bike moves around much sharper, feels lighter with more psi. B) Most practice sessions are coming directly off the street, so when I'm done practicing, the bike is set for safe street/pursuit riding. C) Back-to-back with the stopwatch did not indicate less pressure = faster times. *Slow-riding is a different story: It WILL help with balance, but it's kind of "cheating" in my opinion. As for suspension settings, I've found a "sport" mode to be good. I don't want it too stiff, because it tends to push the front and provide little front-end load entering turns. But if its set to "comfort" or similar soft touring-type setting, the bike will wallow and fail to settle in time to load the suspension when making quick transitions. This, in turn, will make the front end a bit light when you want it planted, minimizing the grip you want. So FIRM with some give; maybe 70% max stiffness available.

@@PoliceMotorTraining thanks for that very much. I’m currently running 40/42 and comfort mode (1 player no luggage). I will definitely be trying your settings.

Going back to this competition in a few weeks. Practicing a lot. Really focusing on the balance ball and rapid transitions. Primarily counterweighting and staying in the grey area while leaned. Gonna be a really good three days like the last two years. The event benefits the pediatric brain tumor association and is a really good group of guys.

Quinn, is your definition of “gray area” the same as friction zone? I’ve heard that few times in your videos and haven’t heard anyone use that term. Thank you

Yes- "Gray Zone" to me means the place where the clutch is not fully engaged or disengaged... Friction Zone, Cherry Patch, Sweet Spot. I'm sure others have heard it called by another term.
