Now that cub is a beautiful machine! I've gotten a lot of experience jumping between aircraft for professional reasons and what I've found is that only the first few transitions are difficult. After that you start to get a feel for flying the airplane rather than flying the habit.

Been watching for a while and this is my first comment. Thank you! As an aviation nut my entire life and having soloed before I had my drivers license, served in the Marine Corps in the air wing and now living off the edge of the approach to Mather in Rancho Cordova, CA my life has, and does, revolve around aviation. Oh, and my daughter....named Amelia! No accident of aviation connection there! You have revived a deep rooted passion to the roots of what aviation is and what got me hooked so many years ago with all you vlog! Keep it flying and know that you always have a place to stay at our place should you want to fly in for the air show, a work thing, or just because! The coffee pot and fridge are always on, hot, and stocked for ya! Damn, now here I go looking at the Kitfox site and going, "Hmmmmmm......"

I was 37 years old when I retired with medically disabilities and I owned a Cessna 195 that had been in my family for decades but hadn't been flown many hours and hadn't had it's annual in at least two or three years since my father stopped flying. Well, it was passed to me and I had the required Inspections and maintenance done. Then I flew her for a couple of years really enjoying that big Jacobs radial despite it's lack of cooling ability on hot day, it's thirst for oil and it's higher than average fuel burn rate. Unfortunately. the FAA denied my medical certification one year so that was the end of my flying, forever. Especially because it was for the onset of Parkinson, a direct result of Agent Orange exposure as it turns out. Could you see someone flying at a point where when his brain tells his feet or hands to do something, they don't respond? Especially a tail wheeled airplanes, which as your friend says you have to "fly" all the way to the hanger. That is unless your fond of ground loops. Believe me, that Jacobs had more effect on the torque of the 195 aircraft. Especially during take-off and sever cross wind landings. You has to stay ahead of it.The bottom line was that I sold that airplane for $40,000. Now it takes $125,000 for a plane that while STOL is in a different class of aircraft than my old 195 was. I would love to still be flying though and doing EXACTLY what you guys are doing. Just not in the Cessna 195. ( I've never made an off airport landing with it and doubt if it could, at least not with the "flare" you guys do it with)

Amazing restraint not plugging your Kitfox. I learned to fly Supercubs when I was 17, and Cubs are my first true love in aviation. I drooled over the CC, but couldn't get past the sticker shock. For the cost of a CC, You could keep your Fox, buy an RV 10, and have enough left over to operate both for several years. Beautiful plane though. Quality, Fit and Finish second to none.

Cruise 110mph burning 8gal/hr = ~18.3 mpg. That's not bad! Especially when you're in the air for 3 hours while others drive for 9!
@Ichibuns
@Ichibuns 5 жыл бұрын
The Xcub burns the same amount at a 150 mph cruise. You just sacrifice a small amount of STOL capability. Landing distance goes from 140 to 170 feet. There is also that extra $100k.

I read an article about it a while back, they tested the plane and were commenting it's a bad plane for training, since it will forgive just about anything - if you're alone in the plane, it won't stall at all, full power, stick full back, plane goes really slow, but slowly gains altitude...
