CSMA is excited to kick off the Spring 2024 concert season with Quinteto Latino's special night of music in Tateuchi Hall. The group champions the works of Latinx composers and performs some of their favorites works in “Puzzles and Myths: Classical Music for Winds.”
The program includes new commissions by Gabriela Lena Frank and Victor Márquez-Barrios as well as music of Mexican composers Gabriela Ortiz and Manuel Ponce, and Cuban composers Paquito D’Rivera and Orlando Jacinto García.
A nationally recognized classical wind ensemble based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Quinteto Latino seeks to disrupt long-standing racial and cultural disparities within the classical music field by championing past, present and future musical contributions by Latino composers and musicians.
Quinteto Latino includes: Armando Castellano, French horn (founder and artistic director); Diane Grubbe, flute; Kyle Bruckmann, oboe; Leslie Tagorda, clarinet; and Jamael Smith, bassoon.
CSMA's 2023-24 Community Concert Series is sponsored by the Applied Materials Foundation and Nordson.
