Did you know the USPSTF now recommends average risk Americans get screened for colon cancer at age 45 now instead of 50? I chat with my siblings about this and see how much they know about it. Talk to your doctor about colon cancer screening!

Dont forget that depending on the findings you need another colonoscopy in different intervalls. This should be a superbowl commercial or sth. Colonoscopy is one of the best if not the best preventive methods out there.

If anyone is reading the comments. I was diagnosed with stage III rectal cancer at age 47. My cancer would not have been as advanced if I were screened at age 45. I have no family history of cancer. My husband was screened at age 50, a large polyphase found that was still in a precancerous stage. Please, please have the recommended screening. I promise a colonoscopy is not as bad as it is made out to be and thousands of times easier than the chemo, radiation and surgery needed to treat colorectal cancer.

As someone with Lynch Syndrome, I get annual colonoscopies and biannual endoscopies. I had my first colonoscopy at 42 because my dad had colon cancer at 52. I woke up from that first procedure to be told I had colon cancer (sigmoid), Stage 1. The Lynch diagnosis came later when too many factors for it piled up and I was given a genetics test. MSH6 deletion found.

My dad got colon cancer at 38. I’m now 38, so my doc wants me to get a colonoscopy sometime between now and when I turn 40. Not looking forward to that. Then I’ll probably get another one every couple of years depending on how the first one goes. Not excited about extra colonoscopies, but I’ll never, ever forget the hell dad went through and the effects he’s still dealing with. If it means preventing that happening to me, and preventing my kid going through what I did, I guess I’ll deal with it.

Is there a correlation between the development of skin tags (skin polyps) and colon polyps? Like if you never used to have skin tags and suddenly you start getting them, might that indicate that you’re getting colon polyps too?

Would hemophilia be a reason they would avoid a colonoscopy for screening? I'd think perhaps due to chance of nicking something?
@lachyt5247
@lachyt5247 3 жыл бұрын
Prophylactic measures can be used in cases of abnormal hemostasis. As long as the person is hemodynamically stable its unlikely hemophilia would totally prevent a colon cancer screening/polyp analysis etc.

@@Doc_Schmidt The same reason I can't see a nephrologist until I'm actually *in* kidney failure, a lack of funding. Health insurance in NZ doesn't cover preexisting conditions so losing the perks of 'free' healthcare isn't worth paying for it. My grandmother had bowel cancer, my mother had to fight tooth and nail, even when she had blood in her stool, to get a colonoscopy and I know not to even try until I'm in dire straits.
