@inspirational-echoes Maya Angelou whose birth name was Marguerite Annie Johnson was an American poet, author and civil rights activist. She born in 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri and died in 2014 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina at the age of 86. During her rich and eventful life she published seven autobiographies, each focusing on different stages of her life, three books of essays, and innumerable books of poetry. She was involved in cinema as an actor, writer, and director. She produced plays, films and television programs.
An active civil rights worker, she worked with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X. In 1993 Maya gave a poetry recital at the first inauguration of President Bill Clinton.
She was a sought after speaker and gave lectures until a couple of years before her death.
