Dean Dickinson, owner of R&D Racing, is one of the best two-stroke tuners on planet Earth. He has built two-stroke engines for just about every top amateur coming through the ranks for the last three decades (and his dad Rudy did it before him). When it came time for Dean to build our KTM 125SX, his goal was not to change the powerband’s personality. He wanted to raise the power output everywhere so it would make the same curve on the dyno. He cleaned up the cylinder, cut the head, used a stock piston, added a Bud Racing exhaust pipe and silencer and focused his attention on fine tuning the carburetor. He spent most of his time on the Mikuni carburetor and said he could find a lot of power with the small modifications he did. The R&D engine came to life instantaneously with a twist of the throttle. It offered more of a torquey four-stroke feel off the bottom. The power profile connected the mid and top into a single blended powerband. It was an exciting, powerful engine that was easy to ride. Test riders felt that recovering from mistakes was simple with the added grunt this engine had. Our R&D-modified KTM 125SX engine excelled on tight tracks, as they really highlighted its torquey feel. On the other hand, on faster tracks, every tester thought the power output was increased over stock and revved further.

I wish MXA would ever give dyno curves, especially in comparisons. Instead they always write it in stupid words. Just let me see it.

How many hours are on your rings and top end? Mine started like that (rebuilding and restoring everything). In cold weather at most 3 kicks.

That's a nice (and expensive) looking 125. I've done a bunch of carbie mods on my sons 125SX in an effort to get it running well. Would like to know what's been done on this bike's carbie if you're able to share. Thanks for the vid. :)

Don't know if this will have any more info than what you already know but plenty of people giving their specs based on various factors so may be worth reading through the few pages and seeing what works well for where you ride. m.vitalmx.com/forums/Tech-Help-Race-Shop,42/KTM-HUS-125-150-250-jetting-thread,1363394?page=1

Does it do all that with pump gas or do you have to buy or blend race fuel.
@scottrichardson77
@scottrichardson77 4 жыл бұрын
@Mike Lyons My experience with race fuel and jetting large increases in power. So how much of the power increase is solely because of the fuel? Is all Im curious about. I more impressed by power increases on pump gas. Dean at RandD is an awesome dude I remember float bowl with the adjustable leak jet were awesome!

" more torquey four stroke feel". If that's what you want, ride a four stroke you pansies.

Mike Lyons funny that 2 strokes aren’t ridden anymore wonder why oh wait it’s because 4 strokes are faster and more advanced
@theprofessorfate6184
@theprofessorfate6184 4 жыл бұрын
@@rusty244 Sorry, but 4 strokes aren't faster, never have been. The problem is that development of the 2 stroke stopped a long time ago, thanks to assholes in the motorcycle industry, coupled with collusion by the AMA and the FIM. Developing a 4 stroke that could compete with a 2 stroke took a tremendous amount of money in research, which was then recaptured by the outrageous expense of owning and racing one ..........for the privateers and general public. The only real advancements that matter are in suspension and frames(not coincidentally are going back to tubular versions) . In other words, the 2 stroke motor is vastly superior in every way, especially when it comes to ease of maintenance and affordability. Its only problem was powerband, but they stopped experimenting with them when they decided they could rip off the public a lot better selling needlessly complicated four stroke motors instead. Make no mistake, the 4 stroke was foisted onto the scene, it wasn't wanted.

TheProfessor Fate 4-strokes have partly taken over because of their smooth powerband. Getting that in a 2-stroke is a good thing. Makes it easier to ride fast and for longer. But a 2-stroke still has the power to weight advantage and simplicity. “Best of both worlds”
